It is your civic duty to go there tomorrow and make sure they know about it.
I'll have to stop by and check it out. I haven't been in there for 10 or so years, we actually have good internet here despite what they said on the show. I have a gig down and unlimited bandwidth for instance, so it's even more of a mystery why they still stay open.

These stories about corporate tax avoidance scams really just depress me thoroughly.

This Russel Crowe piece is hillarious.

How the hell does John Oliver convinced HBO to let him spend $7,000 on a leather jockstrap (and other shot for undisclosed amounts of money) just to give it away to a Blockbuster in Alaska? This man is a genius.

So do we have any updates regarding that Blockbuster store? Has any local news team gone there to make a follow-up?

A strange question to ask, but i was wondering, do we know if he's gonna do a piece on the Mexican Election? he's done so for other countries that are less relevant to America and the clock is ticking on this.

So corporations just keep avoiding taxes by storing their profits on some island for a few years and every other administration passes a bill that lets them bring the money back to the US for a fraction of the tax rate they should have paid, and they sell it to the people as a policy that creates jobs even though it doesn't, but everyone has already forgotten how it didn't work last time.
Hilarious. These people must be laughing they asses off all the way to bank.

it's likely billed as "marketing budget"
as the stunts do generate a lot of marketing for the show lol.

or they might just have a simple rule, "Make us laugh with the joke, and we will fund it" :P

good episode on the iran deal, hopefully it somewhat informs people on what it actually is, because i usually hear a lot of misinformation being thrown around.

also there was something very very important that they missed in the episode. i was genuinely surprised becuase i consider oliver kind of a fair person but i think it goes against the narrative they like to push. pompeo said this in the american senate recently:

https://www.npr.org/2018/04/12/6019...ate-nominee-mike-pompeo-will-you-be-a-yes-man

POMPEO: Iran wasn't racing to a weapon before the deal. There is no indication that I'm aware of that if that deal no longer existed that they would immediately turn to racing to create a nuclear weapon today.

i think the narrative he was trying to push was that trump getting out of the deal equals nuclear bombs for iran, which i don't think is true. zarif recently said if america got out of the deal, iran has 3 options: getting out of the deal themselves, officially suing them in an international court, or getting out of NPT. they wouldn't do nothing if the sanctions are placed again. IAEA constantly saying iran has done their part of the deal and merkel and macron saying there's no alternative shows that getting out of it just would be a dumb decision made by trump based on nothing.

Ultimately the end skit probably has a budget. Buying ten grand of movie merchandise was probably considerably cheaper than some of the celeb appearances they've had on that section before.

The fact that you have Bolton there, it only looks that Iran is going to get invaded, and BTW, one strong point Oliver made was about the deal with North Korea, and Im almost sure that This administration is just planing to break the Iranian deal thus making NK break negotiation, this way Trump can easily say it was NK that backed down.

My only gripe is that I wish Oliver spent more time on Israel and Saudi Arabia's objections and explain why the deal benefits them as well.

Do the spoof ads they make ever actually air on those stations? I'd imagine they'd get rejected by Fox.

They're probably going through the local cable provider to buy the time. I don't know if Fox has any sort of veto power, but when I bought local cable time, they never mentioned any potential override from the channel (although it was never as potentially controversial as Oliver's buys.)

TBH I think he is bored with the show... I don't think this season is as high quality as the previous ones, and he seems to fall back into many of the same jokes (or maybe I just have seen so much I have seen it all before).

I do think it has to be hard stuck between endlessly covering trump, and trying to focus on other subjects which just aren't as shocking or at the forefront of our minds.

The show has had very same-y jokes/setups for a while now. The core of the writing is still solid, but they fall back on things like berating a stock photo too often

I'm pretty sure they took a break in the second or third week this season. This doesn't seem similar to that schedule at all.
Here's the exact schedule of the beginning of every season

2014

  • 4 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 5 weeks on, 2 weeks off
  • 6 weeks on, 3 weeks off
2015
  • 7 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 7 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 5 weeks on, 1 week off
2016
  • 6 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 4 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 3 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 4 weeks on, 3-4 weeks off
2017
  • 6 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 4 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 3 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 5 weeks on, 3 weeks off
2018
  • 5 weeks on, 1 week off
  • 4 weeks on, 1 week off (so far)

Every season has 30 episodes in it., The breaks are just slightly different each year.

I can confirm my local blockbuster has the goods, that is all.

He did an update about it tonight.

Which included pictures from Alaska, and that Russel Crowe donated the money to a Stever Irwin Koala hospital, where they dedicated a ward to Oliver.
