The thread title only stated there would be spoilers for Infinity War. Surely we can speculate without the OP being full of genuine spoilers for Avengers 4?

To be honest it's all speculation at this point, and I don't see how anything that's supported by evidence stretches beyond a mere synopsis that we'd know before the movie releases.

Yeah, basically all we know spoiler wise is who the cast is and at some point they travel back to the battle of New York.

Without reading too much into this thread, IDK how the comics work but I'm assuming the resolution to this is potentially laid out in some sort of comic series? If so are they openly discussed?

I want to speculate based on IW without the knowledge / spoilers from the comics. If they're in here, I'll bounce.

MCU movies are rarely based on a particular storyline beyond a basic premise. The Infinity Gauntlet storyline ends in a way that is almost certainly going to be radically different in the movie.

Not really actually. The next movie will take inspiration from multiple comics, but the exact outcome? Nah. We can't predict it. Some might speculate based on Avengers Forever, but that's a big if right now.

Most of the Infinity Gauntlet, where this movie is based on (somewhat losely) already happened here. Hell, the ending of that comic was already depicted in the movie.

This movie is Thanos Quest and the 1st issue of Infinity Gauntlet.

Uh, right Thanos Quest my bad.

Still, its safe to read. There might be moments from the comics that get directly translated to the screen, but in most cases these won't be 1:1 conversions. I mean Banner falling into Strange's Sanctorum is the altered version of Silver Surfer falling down in the same place in Infinity Gauntlet.

I wonder if this three film arc for Hulk and Banner is leading to him becoming Grey Hulk in A4, which in the MCU would be a legit fusion of Hulk and Banner instead of a split personality.

No Silver Surfer or Adam Warlock, not to mention no Galactus, makes the comic Infinity Gauntlet hard to adapt. Carol will obviously replace one of them and we do have Nebula, but the second movie is going to be very different than the comic.

Oh that was my argument as well. A4 will be a very different movie, but there will be nods to the source material. Just nods.

I was thinking, do you think M'Baku becomes the new black panther, with tchalla gone?
Shuri is the next in line within the royal family. I suppose M'Baku won't be challenging now with Wakanda being in shambles.

As a fan of the MCU and having only a small knowledge of select comics and characters, can someone explain who Captain Marvel is and why she is so important/powerful?

As for speculation, I saw some humanity in Thanos and can see him having regrets. Make of that what you will. Obviously time travel involving Ant man is gonna happen though.

She's basically the Superman of the Marvel Universe. Can fly, super strength, etc.

Carol Danvers. In the comics she starts out as Ms. Marvel, a human/Kree hybrid receiving her powers from Mar'vel, a Kree hero. She has superhuman strength, flight and can absorb energy, using that to hit back.

Strange looked through 14+ million futures and only in 1 they beat Thanos. He rigged everything to be in that specific future timeline. Hence the "it had to be done" line from him. Everything so far is according to Strange's plan so far. I think it's important that the characters those specific characters survived, since they play the key role in fulfilling that timeline and ultimately beat Thanos (and probably bring everyone back). So it's important that Tony survives and not he himself. That Warmachine survies but not Spiderman etc.

I wonder who'll end up being the MVP of A4? Since I'd say Thor really got his moments here so probably not him again.

Strange because he saw the only way to win and set that path in motion?

Tony because he might create a device that helps travel though time?

Ant-Man because he might find a way to travel through time too?

Captain America for making a sacrifice play that leads to victory?

Miss Marvel for being the key to beating Thanos?

I'm thinking it'll be Captain Marvel or Ant-Man.

And Feige said they aren't doing their own event. No announcements until SDCC 2019. That means they'll announce the title somehow before the first teaser at the end of the year..

This might be crazy but I can see them not revealing the name until that first teaser trailer shows the name and logo.

I think Antman is going to play a big part in A4, he was probably in Infinity War the whole time and we will see what he was up to, probably get a funny retelling of the events from Luis.

God please no, that will piss off so many people and be lame as hell

I feel she will be a key part but not the key. Making her stronger the Thor and hulk is already lame since she isn't in the comics. I don't think her movie is going to be that popular either which would be weird for a character that isn't that popular to be the main focus for avengers 4.

And would a studio who filmed this avengers part four already really invest the majority of the spotlight into her when her movie has yet to be reviewed and judged by moviegoers.

So uh, the post teaser. Is that nick fury sending a distress call through time back to carol? Because I don't understand the purpose of that odd looking device fury uses unless it's that.

Making her the main badass

I mean she's the strongest Avenger there is, she's the Superman of Marvel basically. She's going to put the work in even if someone else deals the killing blow.

It's to Miss Marvel yeah, not sure about through time but considering how fancy it was it wouldn't surprise me.

Only logically reason is Thor, tony, cap, hulk are all out after phase 3. So they are ushering a new team in led by Danvers. But damn that's risky to put your franchise into the hands of an untested character. We shall see I guess

why would you assume it was through time. She is off earth most of the time in the comics, she handles cosmic shit, not unlike Nova, she dont got no time for earth business unless its a booty call with Rhodey.

She is 100% not that (and never was) in the comics. The fact that Feige has already made this statement and the fact that it's gained traction tells you that she is probably the key to defeating Thanos.

That's the thing, she isn't the strongest character and Thor is def the strongest in the comics when compared to her. I don't understand why Fiege was make her more powerful when it's not there in the source material. It's like some move just to support girl power movement. Just comes off weird

Power levels vary constantly from run to run and even if you ignore the MCU has always loosely adapted these characters.

Well, the mcu has gotten flak for this, especially with DC putting out wonder woman before marvel has made an attempt. Proxima midnight versus witch, widow, and okoye was no accident either.

Even if that's true, why invent some Mary Sue to come out of no where and be the reason they win. People are invested in these other characters for ten years and this rando who gets an insane boost comes out of no where and saves the day. I want to say I can't see them doing something so stupid but they do need a stepping stone to phase four
