I'm a few hours into my first proper Master Mode playthrough. Doing a Nintendo Switch t-shirt run too for added challenge. Exploring while heading to Kakariko, 9 shrines 15 seeds so far. Already enjoying myself quite a bit. :)

First thing I did after getting down from the plateau was travel alongside the roads and get what's-his-face to the forest

Well, I've recently started using the camera rune as a pseudo in-game tv camera and following npcs as their animations play out. It's like a whole new way to experience BOTW and one of the funnest things I've done in the game. It's like a Hyrule reality tv show.

Elaborate. Is there a specific weapon you need to use or a cue you need to wait for?

My other bro just asked me if I knew you could backstab them in their hideout. I coulda sworn I tried it too. Maybe I got caught when I did? It's been a while.

I dunno either. I know as much as you do. Asking him may not even help. As I said, he's the idiot brother, at least when it comes to games lol. He's so bad at new games, but every now and then he gets the one thing me and my other bro don't get. Never fails.

Finished the game. "60 or more hours" according to the Switch. 13 hearts, 2 stamina wheels, bunch of shrines, 18 korok seeds (did't find myself the needs to upgrade so much).

Completed all the divine beasts. Ganon was easier that I thought. Just sprayed a bunch of shock arrows in the first phase. Used Daruk's Protection and Urbosa's Fury the second phase. The horse riding was really easy.

Hardest boss was the Windblight Ganon imo.

Im done with this game, ending was meh, but good experience overall.

Completed all the Shrines now. The reward for doing so is neat :)

I hate that they give it to you so late in the game, basically once you've done everything. I still have yet to get that armor and I've played 500 fucking hours of this game across two files.

It woulda made more sense as a prize for completing half the shrines, or something else entirely. Locking something so cool and integral to classic Zelda behind such a time hog is crazy.

I was beginning to wonder if it was even in this game. I only found out by saying 'fuck it' and looking it up.

The Master Cycle is also locked behind way too end game content. It will also be rendered moot by the time I get it.

Yeah it does come very late, I am wondering whether to bother levelling it up to MAX, but I assume it won't be as good as my 80 combo'd Tunic, Hood and Soldier legs. But I'll check on that.

What is the Master Cycle?

The Master Cycle renders horses (And even the Ancient Horse Armor) almost useless. The horse still has the benefit of automatically following paths, but the cycle can go almost anywhere so it wins.

Except the desert. Neither can go in the desert. Fuck that shit. I wanna tear up the sand on my motorcycle! Or at least let me use the horse there. It's not like horses have never been in a desert before.

On my master mode playthrough I basically rushed through all the divine beasts after doing very few shrines just to get the master cycle asap, made it much more enjoyable as I've still got like 90+ shrines to find.

Hmmmm yeah that's a tempting way to play but I always wanna have 2 "normal" "take my time" playthroughs before I really crack a game open, and I play super slow. My second game is exponentially quicker (to me), but still pretty slow.

I dunno if I wanna get the tunic or the bike first. Not a fan of getting either so late.

Yeah seriously. The sand seals are fun and all but they randomly despawn/disappear when you get off them and explore a location for a few minutes or enter and exit a shrine. Such a major pain in the arse. Made me skip exploring the southwest of the desert tbh, the only area in the game that I kinda just skipped because everything about it was so dull.

On that note, I wish there was more going on in the rain forest/jungle and also the beach village. My personal favourite areas in the game for sure.

Finished tonight.

I got all the memories so I am not really sure how different the ending is without them (i'll YT it at some point), but I was pretty happy with how it wrapped it. It was more about the journey anyway, which was an incredible experience.

Need something short and sweet to play next! :)

Rain stopping you climbing is up there with the least fun mechanics I've come across in a game. Why the fuck did they do this?

Your guess is as good as mine. To me, it's extension of their weather systems influencing your interaction with the environment around. Moment to moment gameplay. I oft used Revali's gale whenever I needed to go somewhere high during rain.

One major complaint I always felt was so strange.

Why is the horse vault so low? And why can't you charge a higher jump and/or Revali's Gale off of it? Or a running vault off it? You can SOMETIMES do it but you need to be going fast and pretty much off a ledge for it ever to be useful.

Argh what is you thinking Nintendo? lol

Oh and some durability questions.

How does the durability even work I'm regards to different attacks? Do slams waste more? Or is 1 hit worth the same no matter what? And are jump stabs worth 2 hits of your durability too?

Yeah, this is one of the biggest issues in the game, most people share your annoyance. If I were to guess I'd say they did it to add another layer of realism; to further drive the point that nature rules in this world, and that the randomness of nature can stop you in your tracks. The forecast in the corner of the screen shows you the upcoming weather so you can plan a bit. If you can find shelter from the rain, build a campfire and flash forward time until it has stopped raining.

I haven't played this game since release when I beat it so I thought i'd finally give the DLC a shot and... as someone who always found the combat in BotW tedious, Champions Ballad is especially not fun.

I also dislike how I never feel powerful in this game. That gaurdians still own the shit out of me and Lynels I avoid like the plague.

I was also hoping that the DLC would bring some QoL improvements, like maybe an outfit that lets you climb in the rain.

I actually found the Master Cycle disappointing and prefer the horses...

(Because the no music plays while using the bike, and you can consider the horses something like a pet; I feed mine apples after any extended sprinting or if they get hurt :P)

Bought the game along my switch last june , finally finished the game yesterday after 130 hours, finished all sidequests, all shrines , all sword trials and all ballad of the champions missions . Truly masterful game , the open world is the best I've ever experienced. I got very emotional after defeating ganon , the feeling that i have been on an epic adventure is something i rareley feel nowadays after completing games . I won't bother with korok seeds fuck that , but maybe I will try starting a new playthrough on master mode.

It is actually not that difficult , just have stealth maxed up and then sneak behind them .

I just looked at my post completion save and discovered I've got 3 Shrine quests left, but.. I've done all 120 Shrines. Not sure how that's possible. I could look through the list to see which ones I
Am missing. I guess they are broken now, unless they auto complete immediately

Doesn't that just mean you need to talk to some people to actually complete the quest?

Never knew this was a thing til the other day. You can kill Ice Lizalfos with the hot spring. Lovely.

There's just something about chasing enemies down hills and off cliffs in this game. Absolutely delicious.

Hmmm maybe? They aren't active though, all the ones in my List are complete. Some have ??? In the red text area, but none are incomplete. Weird!
Yeah, this is definitely the problem. I finished the entire game and all the shrines and ended up finding another quest that ended up activating then immediately completing a shrine quest I had done forever before. (Because I figured out the solution before talking to anyone for the hint. Then later found the book that activated the quest while wandering around.)

Thanks. When I have a minute, I'll bring a guide up and see which ones I am missing. It will be easy ones, I am sure. I am actually surprised I managed to get them, as some are actually hidden until you complete the quest. Guess I got lucky with those! Would it be including DLC Shrines in that list too? I don't have the DLC. It's actually only 3 I am missing.

Blasphemy! It's so wonderful to use...

To be fair, it DOES somewhat detract from the jumping/climbing mechanics and I find those wonderful as well.

Again, comes back to the HL2 argument. The Gravity Gun completely invalidated the point of the crowbar even being in the game, and that was a series staple. It's like if BOTW2 gives Link a fucking gun along with his sword, but the gun is better in every way.

I'm not saying the glider does that in BOTW since it's an integral part of the game, but just...yeah, it does sort of negate other great mechanics a lot of the time.

Maybe 5 hours in? Just got the Camera Rune.

I don't know what else to do right now? Do I keep doing side quests? Go for the Guardian or Locked Memories which seems super random to fall into one of those twelve places? I try some side quests like the one at Hateno beach and I feel like combat wise I die way too fast. Feel lost

also super fuck the gyroscope ball moving maze shrine

You can go follow the main story icons. You can just go off exploring. You can go look for shrines. What I did is begin to follow the path to the main story locations and then on the way I'll spot places I want to explore which lead to new areas to explore and so forth.

I am wondering what is best to focus on? More hearts or stamina? I currently have 7 hearts and yet to fight one of the divine dudes as I was getting my arse kicked so went off to get more health etc.

Any tips? Where can I get some ancient cores for upgrades?

Cheers.
