For Christmas my brother got a box set of Hugo Boss Tonic with two bottles so I snagged the smaller of the two. Yes, it's another simple fresh sorta scent that doesn't really do anything new. I do like it though. I haven't had a bottle of Hugo Boss since it was hot like 20 years ago.

How long should these things usually last if kept off the bathroom counter? I feel like I've barely made a dent in either of these bottles over the past year, but also, I'm thinking about getting By the Fireplace as this seems to be what I probably should have bought instead of Jazz Club last year. A part of me is worried having three of these in rotation will have me NEVER finish them lol

Unless you're literally using several sprays every day its very hard to burn through 100ml of any fragrance, haha. Having three bottles should serve you long enough. Technically they do have expiry dates but as long as you don't expose your perfumes to UV light they should last more or less forever. Worst case scenario they might change character slightly because some ingredients are more volatile than others, but that's honestly mostly theoretical.

By the way I think its time to add a new fragrance to the Highlight in the OP. If you have something you think deserves to be seen by more people checking this thread out, please write a short review in this thread and I will paste it into the OP. Thanks!

On another note (heh); did y'all buy any new fragrances during the holiday sales? I ended up gettingPalo Santo which wasn't even on sale but who cares, its great!

I re-upped a new bottle of CK One Shock. Nothing extravagant but I really like the scent and my current supply was about to run out.

What do people think of Sauvage? Worth the price? Are there cheaper alternatives?

The only reason I dislike Sauvage is the Johnny Depp marketing. It's similar to a lot of other sorta fresh scents like bleu de Chanel. I want it too but I'm gonna wait until there is parfum version.

Aww yeah. An online store here in Sweden is having a 50% sale on selected brands, one of which is L'Artisan Parfumeur. Ended up buying 100ml of Safran Troublant for €50. I previously received a sample of it from the same store and completely fell in love with it. Watching some reviews by US folks they all seem to think it comes across as very daring and unique, but here in Sweden we bake saffron buns around Holiday times every year and that is exactly what this perfume smells like. The store does ship internationally so if anyone's been dying for a sale on that brand you might want to check it out.

I've always wanted to try CK One Shock since some people were out there saying its somewhat related in scent to La Nuit de l'Homme but I don't think its sold anywhere in Sweden. Don't really feel like blind buying it so meh. What's your opinion about it?

In regards to Sauvage, I honestly can't stand it. Have tried it on and have smelled other people walking by wearing it and each time I just go "ugh". Its just way too fresh and sharp for me, but then I do enjoy warm, dark and generally spicy scents so its probably just not my cup of tea. That said, you might indeed want to wait for the EDP version that's coming out (very?) soon, it could end up way better. Or worse. In regards to performance I honestly don't see the point of an EDP since the original lasts 12+ hours and easily fills an entire room.

That's a pretty good collection! I have L'Homme Ideal EDP but I find it almost too dark and heavy, and that's saying something considering my tastes :P
I should probably wear it more than I've ended up doing though.

CK One Shock is very much a tobacco scent with a hint of chocolate sweetness. It's very much a scent made for young adults coming in to their own (think mid to early 20s age wise). I'd say it was worth the 25 CAD I payed for it.

I watched the video you linked, I might wait till later in the year before I pull the trigger on either Sauvage scents for the time being. Still have a brand new bottle of Fahrenheit sitting atop my dresser.

Ugh I just ordered 10ml of Bois d'Argent, Fève and 5ml of Mitzah from a guy in a Facebook group I frequent. RIP Wallet but I'm seriously considering rocking Fève and Argent as my more or less signature scents. I love how I can wear Bois d'Argent in any occassion where I want to blend in but still enjoy a very unique scent (since it doesn't exactly scream projection-wise). Féve Delicieuse on the other hand... impossible to go unnoticed. Just have to fire it up and hope no one around you dislikes it because the only way for them to avoid it is to avoid the wearer him/herself :P

I really hope this doesn't end up with me ordering a full bottle of each down the road. Screw this hobby.

There's a thread for everything, isn't there :)

Is what I currently wearing. The Y from YSL was a recommendation from my girlfriend, who did promo in a perfume store as a student. A bit stronger then I usually like but I've grown to like it a lot! Biotherm Homme Aquafitness could well rock the dumbest name in the scent scene, but I've got nothing but love for this fragrance. My go-to in the summer. Lanvin was bought while I was feeling a bit sentimental, it was one of the first fragrances I really liked, but it's so subdued, it's almost a bit boring to me these days.

In the past I've worn Ralph Lauren Polo Blue, which I liked, but also felt it was everywhere, like how half the guys in my old Uni town wear Acqua di Gio. I think when the Lanvin is gone, I'll invest in a bottle of Arancia di Capri from Acqua di Parma - pretty much my favourite but a bit more expensive then what I usually spent on the stuff.

So good <3
I actually bought that as a birthday present for a girl I was dating and gosh I wish I bought it for myself as well. Not sure I would wear it much but I love smelling it whenever I'm out shopping.

Blind bought a 100ml bottle of Guess Night Access for 16 bucks at Winners (Canadian equivalent of TJ Maxx and Marshalls). Not bad. Reminds me of Axe Kilo but more refined and less suffocating. Doesn't last long on the skin though. Maybe 2 to 3 hours avg.

Asking again: Is anyone interested in highlighting one of their favorite fragrances with a short review to be pasted into the OP? Would like to eventually have a database of interesting recommendations from around here :)

Sure, though just as with beer, wine and spirits I think it's quite the challenge to capture a fragrance in words.

I may write a small paragraph about one from my collection this weekend.

Anyone have any opinions of Davidoff Cool Water? Many people have compared it to Creed's Git which I've never smelt. It's a cheapie with a decent rep so I might blind buy it.

I use La Nuit de l'Homme for Fall/Winter, and L'Homme Ultime for Spring/Summer from Yves Saint Laurent. I was pissed when Armani killed Code Sport and haven't looked back.

I'm honestly not sure when it comes to the lower priced brackets unless she doesn't mind wearing scents that are marketed to men (in which case there is a plethora of leather based fragrances that could be interesting to a metalhead) but in the mid price tier I'd suggest something likeTom Ford's Black Orchidor something likeAcqua di Parma Colonia Leatherif that one is too heavy for her tastes.

Bvlgari Black, maybe? I always feel pretty badass when wearing this. https://www.fragrantica.com/perfume/Bvlgari/Black-154.html

We ended up going With Chanel No. 5 EdP. We both like it more each time! Can't really say anything about performance for now, though.

I have three different samples coming in on Monday

Heeley - Sel Marin (aquatic, ocean salt vibe)

Etat Libre D'Orange - You or Someone Like You (cool natural mint)

A Lab On Fire - California Snow EdP (herbal green, musk)

Looking into a Summer scent at the moment. Something unique. The notes in 'You or Someone Like You' sounds like it'll be my choice.

Let me know what you think about Sel Marin.I heard it has weak projection and longevity, that's why I haven't sampled it yet.

Sample just came in and wow. I absolutely love it. It has that aquatic vibe but musky, spicy and yet its not heavy at all. I'm getting mint in it too but not toothpaste mint more of a green natural smell than synthetic. What comes to mind is an ocean breeze. If you get really close theres a bit of funkiness, I'm guessing its the seaweed. But its not gross, it juat adds to that true beach feel.

I'm so used to cheap aquatics that this is blowing my mind.

I tried "You Or Someone Like You" once but dear lord that was just way too green for me. Perhaps would work better in the summer.

Yeah I didnt really care for it. California Snow is pretty green too but in a good way. Like sniffing a tree leaf green, but very creamy.

With that said I've found I want the best aquatic leaning scent and Sel Marin is really impressing me. Its very intense when sprayed on a small area but when used a little more diffused over a larger area it really has this gorgeous cooling aroma and its funkiness isn't apparent.

I currently have Al Wisam Day Rasasi coming in and I'll be pitting that against Sel Marin. The Al Wisam is supposed to be a pretty close clone to Creeds Silver Mountain Water which I adored when I first got my hands on a sample. A clone but one that has longer lasting power.

I was wondering to get some opinions. I'm just about finished up with my main go to bottle for cologne "aqua de gio parfumo" and am looking for a replacement. My other collections was a neglected bottle of le male terible as well as two Le Labo bottles ( mouse de chene 30 and poivre 23) I also was a big fan of the Santal 33. In general I see to gravitate towards s leathery or spicy smell. I just don't want to break the bank for an everyday scent

You should try Bergamote 22.It's one of my favorite scents from Le Labo.If you want something cheaper, you can try Dior Homme Intense, Prada L'homme, Allure Homme Sport or Bleu de Chanel. All of them are pretty versatile and crowd pleasers.

I personally have tried one very leathery scent, Histoires de Parfums 1740 Marquis de Sade. Its very leathery, kind of powdery and dries down to a very sweet base. Its kind of pricey though, I'm sure there is a designer equivalent. Viktor&Rolf Spicebomb may be what you're looking for.

Any of you into the Rasasi frag house? Still waiting on Al Wisam Day as my first experience with Rasasi but from what I've found via online writeups and videos some are extremely good clone of Tom Ford, Creed, and Amouge. Basically being able to buy a $30-$80 100ml bottle that is 95% close to a $200 nich fragrance.

For instance, La Yuqawam by Rasasi is extremely close to Tom Fords Tuscan Leather but can be had for $65 vs $200.

Definitely watching this thread - just loved the OT title lol

I ordered a Yardley April Violets Contemporary Edition (2015) today. I heard it smells like Guerlain makeup and it has a note of orris on it. As a fan of powdery smells can't wait for it. I've wanted to get a Yardley cologne since I watched that Selfridge's tv show, but they are not very common here.

My current obsession is violets and oud. Got Raghba recently and it is gorgeous.

Y'all need to get your hands on Rasasi Al Wisam Day if youre looking for an everyday fresh. The opening is fresh, spicy, and musky. It can be a little loud but that fricken dry down. When I'm driving or walking on a windy day, I keep getting wafts of it. Its almost like fresh mountain water with metalic flecks, if you could imagine what that would smell like.

Lately I've personally been on a complete Guerlain Tonka Imperiale binge. I'm starting to like it more than Feve. Please send help.

The weather here in Sweden is at pretty much unheard levels of summer heat... around 35°C during the day. I have this sample of Atelier Cologne's Vanille Insensée lying around and for whatever reason I figured I'd try it when I woke up this morning. I instantly went "oh god I've made a huge mistake" because jesus this thing is probably the most super sweet and cloying thing I've come across. It's pretty much choking me out and should never ever be used in this type of weather, gah! Live and learn, folks.

any good citrus/bergamot fragrances recommendation?

I like Le Labo Bergamot 22. But did not like Xerjoff Nio.
Also recently sampled Imaginary Authors Sundrunk. It was quite nice. But it was to similar to Bergamot 22 for me.

For something completely different, definitely try Guerlain's Bergamote Calabria. Lots of ginger and creaminess along with the citrus. Also give Atelier Cologne's Orange Sanguine a shot.

just bought Atelier Cologne's Perfume wardrobe sample pack. I heard good things about Orange Sanguine.

Check out Zegna's Acqua di Bergamotto.

Thanks, I will check it out.

BTW, how do you guys think about Dior Eau Sauvage?

Eau Sauvage is a classic, not very modern but still excellent. Keep in mind that the EDT smells very different from the EDP.

Gallagher Bergamust?

From the sample I have its a very nice citrus smell. Soapy and clean with a wood base that gives it some heft. Its one of the freshest scents I've smelled. Its devoid of any spice so all you get is this bright clean scent.
