Same. Usually I roll with Amazon, but ever since they killed the 20% off promotion for all pre-orders, I've been going with Best Buy for some of my pre-orders since I got GCU.

I am wondering in this case. For the last few years, whenever I've ordered any games/movies/books from Amazon, they've come severely damaged. I mean usually the media is fine, but it looks like a mountain lion intercepted the contents of the package every single time.

They've become very hit or miss depending on what service is making the delivery for me. If USPS delivers my Amazon stuff, it's a 50/50 on the condition it arrives in. Depends on if it's packaged in a bubble wrap envelope or a cardboard insert. If UPS delivers it, most of the time it comes just fine. I haven't had a problem with any of the Best Buy products that come to the house so far. Best Buy tends to package my items better than Amazon.

I feel like the special edition is inevitable even if they're not planning on doing one yet just because Sega's starting to see Shenmue fans are legit.

I'd like to skip ahead to when the game's 100% done, because these screenshots with missing shadows and lights are giving me anxiety haha...coloured lights are so important to the atmosphere of Shenmue, and when they're missing (like in the shot with Ryo and Ren facing Yuan) it looks empty without it.

Wake me when we get final screens and footage! Even the footage in the trailer was jittery and extremely brief. It's more of a teaser, I get it, but it definitely feels like something they rushed together for the FES event.

I would pay good money for an engraved wooden box containing Phoenix and Dragon Mirror replicas.

Seems word of the strength of preorders has even reached Hiroaki Takeuchi; who was one of Yu Suzuki's right hand men on the original games and currently animation producer for Shenmue III.

I'll most likely preorder both console versions as well. Still waiting for BB as well. Not sure why they're taking such a long time.

Suzuki's relationship with Nagoshi isn't too different from Mikami's with Kamiya. Suzuki took Nagoshi under his wing and trained him up to become a game director himself, Nagoshi then split off and lead his own team making their own arcade games. Yu Suzuki is really well respected amongst Japanese game devs. Kojima, Goichi Suda (who believe it or not worked for Suzuki marketing his SEGA arcade games), Kamiya, SWERY, Harada (Tekken) and Itagaki have all shown they are fans/respect him as well. The guy is a legend.

I think the only ones that don't love Suzuki are Sega upper managment (at early 2000) lol

I think the upper management at SEGA always respected him, they just wished he stuck with arcade development instead of making Shenmue. In the grand scheme of things, Shenmue losing as much as it did is not that big of a deal when it comes to other flubs in their history. Plus it has a clear and distinct legacy now whereas stuff like Binary Domain does not (sadly).

Expecting Shenmue IV to be entirely under SEGA at this point though. Would love to see them move to Yakuza's Dragon Engine for that.

I know it's early and all but the game is doing crazy good on Amazon France atm. Shenmue 1-2 for PS4 is #1 overall, Shenmue 1-2 XB1 is #2, and Shenmue 3 PS4 is #14.

I want to get excited but what do these really mean. Like are we looking at Shenmue legitimately having a future beyond 3? If the fan base is there then why not. Sega could and should work with Suzuki, share some tech from Yakuza if need be to get it up and running. The games won't cost the same as they did back in the day when they were truly groundbreaking. We could easily get a new Shenmue chapter every other year until the story is fully complete..

Is dreaming about this at this stage foolish? Shenmue 3 ALWAYS felt like it simply would never happen.

I don't think it's foolish to dream about Shenmue beyond 3, especially considering where we are now. Having said that I don't think we can definitively say anything about the Resmaster's success at this point other than clearly there was pent up demand to preorder it, but we don't really have the numbers yet, nor do we know how this will translate toward more buyers as it gets closer to launch.

I think Sega has really made a few good choices here so that when word spreads about this Remaster more people will be willing to give it a shot. Those choices being the price, the inclusion of modern controls and the choice between English or Japanese voices. Most important of these is the price, it's quite reasonable for both games so even if someone doesn't end up liking the games they weren't out much money. That should make more people willing to buy. The updated controls should eliminate most if not all of the awkwardness navigating the environments. And having Japanese voices as an option allows people to bypass the awkward English voices if they so choose. All of these things should contribute to the series' success more than releasing straight ports of the games would have done.

The graphics of Shenmue are still aesthetically pleasing enough imo, that's not a problem. If anything could hamper people's enjoyment it might be the slower pace of the games I think, but I feel there should be enough of an audience out there that enjoy these kinds of games where Shenmue can resonate. So, in other words, these are truly exciting times to be a Shenmue fan.

They're really leaving a ton of money on the table by not making any kind of ultra-special-very-expensive limited edition sku to milk all those crazy Shenmue super fans. Very, very dumb decision.
Yeah. Someone's going to get their bonus if they figure that out. People in the Shenmue communities I'm familiar with are buying spare copies just to give to strangers. Lol

Haha yeah I've preorder a physical version but I'm absolutely buying it digital. Think I'll lend it indefinitely to my best mate, I keep going on about this game and I think/hope he'll appreciate it.

In addition to my own copies on PS4 and PC, I'll be sending one to a friend who's been hearing me rave about the series for years, and expressed some interest in playing it.

Count me in for 3 copies because I want to send a message to Sega after all these years of pretty much denying it's existence.

It's now up at ebgames. Going to preorder in store for sure.
I called and placed my preorder today. Personally, I prefer going and picking up the game from a store as well unless there is a really good online discount available :)

Ranked #2 on PS4 and #1 on XB1 on Amazon Canada.

I think I might just wait and preorder all versions digitally as that will be the most profitable for Sega.

I am tempted to preorder digitally as well. Perhaps the Xbox One version even though I don't own a Xbone :) The PS4 version I will pick up in-store.

I'm not giving any away but I'll be buying both physical versions for the collection and a digital one to actually play.

Same with Shenmue III. I have one main Kickstarter pledge for a PS4 copy (with all the bonus stuff), a second pledge for a physical PC copy (no way does that get a retail release so I think it'll be the rare one), and I'll get a digital copy from PSN to play.

I'd drop a couple hundred of a collector's edition of Shenmue I & II if they announced it.

Pretty damn exciting if true but there is a retailer that has probably leaked the release date. This is quite common with retailers where they aren't supposed to put the date down and know it themselves so...

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16879257154

They claim the release date is 26/6/18 which is literally two weeks after Sony's E3 conference. Mabye they were supposed to reveal that date to the public then and a release next to E3 sounds realistic especially if they want to hype people up for Shenmue 3. Take the release date with a grain of salt though.

I wonder what Shenmue veteran Spaghetti has to say about this?

EDIT: I just contacted the retailer asking about the release date. Hopefully they will reply to me

Nice work stayingfate wow that seems super promising. With the game at such an advanced stage of development (from what we're aware of, past 70%) it seems likely to me.

We had just had Yak 6 in April and for upcoming titles we have SEGA MegaDrive collection in May, Shenmue 1&2 (in this case if all is true) for June, Sonic Mania Plus in July, Yakuza Kiwami 2 in August and Val;kyria Chronicles 4 in September *wipes forehead*. Seems to me like a reasonable way to stagger it.

Q3 seems really hectic this year, only other date I can see here is in December (which isn't out of the question I suppose) I'm more curious what this mean for announcements, upcoming news (pertaining to this game and Shenmue 3's release which if still planned for the second half of 2018 adds more validity to this date)

Either way, exciting times!

Does my heart good to see how much the collection is seemingly slaying in pre-orders right now. Hopefully it makes Sega a tidy profit and then they can reevaluate the series as a whole going forward, or once 3 is out I suppose.

I wonder if they got the Coca-Cola license, and other properties, or had to patch them out.
I'd be really surprised if the Coca-Cola and Timex licenses remained in for these. I'm guessing that deal would have only included Dreamcast releases for a few years following 1999.

I'm trying to think, did they remove the Coca-Cola vending machines from 2 on the DC or Xbox? I vaguely remember seeing a generic one...

Is Shenmue 3 even coming to Xbox? Would rather buy 1+2 on Xbox for more sense of security in backward compatibility but also want my trilogy in one place (PS4).

Decisions decisions...

Yea, nothing announced for Xbox atm. Seems weird they have it for PC but no Xbox.
Yu Suzuki approached Microsoft before the Kickstarter, but they weren't willing to give him the support Sony would; so that's why the deal was made with them instead.

Nothing weird about it. Shenmue topped requested game polls from Sony and Microsoft, and both companies paid lip service to the fanbase - but Sony were the ones who actually did anything; so that's why they've got (likely timed) exclusivity.

Yea, most likely timed. I'm not too hard up about it since doing multiple ports might take longer anyway. I'll be playing on PS4 anyway.

Lol. Considering how little Sony is doing as of right now (save for showing it at E3, which was more of a gain for them than for Yu Suzuki) I wonder what Microsoft was willing to do :'')
