I'm really looking forward to having a little portable DAW on the Switch, I just wonder if we can pull out project files of the SD card and then share? (I'm doubting that, but it would be cool)

As a musician I'm really interested to see how this goes. Be pretty neat if my Switch also became an important part of my music setup.

Woah what...? Didn't know about this. I like the idea, but personally, I'd only consider it if I can export out of the program into my DAW (Ableton Live).

I can't wait to swing my joycon around to make a crazy solo.

edit: Korg and Detune's previous software for Nintendo did not have audio exporting options besides M01D, which only exported a basic midi file. I've been recording the audio from the headphone jack to my computer to overcome that problem. It's not an ideal solution, but it works. I also hope they change it up with Gadget for Switch.

I really can't wait for this, particularly that Kamata gadget that lets you make Namco arcade-style sounds.

Yeah I'm crossing my fingers for this too, but I have a feeling I'm gonna have to get creative with getting tracks on my computer.

Can I somehow integrate this into my actual DAW? Or export uncompressed Audio?

Yeah, I'm guessing that if I want to mix, master and export tracks i'll have to run a line out of the Switch to the Interface and record each instrument as audio - no bother at all.
It'll be nice to have some synths on the go to track ideas and such.

If I could bounce to a server and get a DL link via email I'd be all over this.

I have this (and many of the extra Gadgets) on my Ipad and it's an incredibly nifty DAW, especially for making chip tune music (there's even a licensed Namco gadget). Seriously considering double dipping, if only to support Korg and Detune (I own just about everything they've put out on ios and DS).

How full fledged is the program, you can make quality full length songs?

Absolutely! While I have an older ipad and can only use like 4 tracks (I'm curious what the limitations are on the Switch version), on a modern ipad it is only limited by device specs. A couple of the gadgets I have are included with purchases of other synths (for example the Korg iM1), meaning that each "Gadget" is a fully featured instrument. Also, there are samplers, drum machines etc. There is even a gadget for inputting guitar or vocals from a real instrument. As for the Nintendo Switch version, I don't know if they plan on adding any of the other Gadgets, though with a cursory glance they do seem to have a good selection of gadgets including ones that are sold separately on other versions (one that I paid separately for on ipad was the Kamata, licensed by Namco Bandai for that 80s arcade sound); nor can I really say how the sound quality is (i.e. maximum bitrate and all that jazz) or even how they plan on having you output your track to other devices (perhaps a separate SD card or more likely export to some of the services set up online for such things)

Regardless, what I can tell you is that it is an easy to use DAW with a nice selection of built in instruments that sound great. Most of the best functionality on the switch version is going to come from the touchscreen (e.g. inputting keys on keyboards, pads on drum machines), unless they somehow support midi controllers (which would be great). Currently it doesn't seem like there is that much actual hard technical data yet, so everything I CAN tell you is just speculation from my experience with the ios version.

Edit: After really looking over the link in the OP, it doesn't go much beyond using the Joy-Cons for input (which is understandable as they are trying to describe WHAT makes this version different), but I would be honestly shocked if it didn't allow touch input in tablet mode.

Oooh, interesting! I might start using this in a liveset.
I wonder if there's some kind of sync feature. That would be great.

Cool, I had no idea this was coming out. I loved the KORG synthesizers and sequencers on DS and 3DS, and used them quite a lot. But I do hope KORG Gadget will make it a little easier to export sound files, I had to use a regular audio cable on 3DS and the quality suffered for it.

I'm unreasonably annoyed that they went through all the trouble of 3d modeling the synths and decided not to have them cast any shadow on the table itself. they're all floating ahh!

but seriously, day one. Been itching to play with this for a while!

just to annoy you a little more, look at that slight shadow on the cream coloured drum synth (or is that a Volca wannabe)

to be fair most look like flat images awkwardly thrown on table.png in photoshop :P

What are the export options on the iPad version? Trying to get a feel for what we can expect on Switch.

Anyone interested in this should check out the free demo version on the iPad or iPhone (if you have one). Korg also released some cool little midi controllers which are tailor-made to work with gadget too.

You can export to an ableton project, or just export the wav stems. Pretty great.

Just found out about this today and damn comes out in 2 days. Hyped for this, I've been looking for a way to have a chiptune wavetable and a new Korg app for Nintendo handhelds. I'm a musician and beat maker so this will be the perfect compliment to my DAW. I loved the DS one back in the day.

A little pricey I'd say but for what you're getting and being on the Switch, a place you can play modern video games on, I'd say it's worth it 100% if you like making music.

Perfect, I was wondering about that as well.

I'm a bit confused... Do these programs not come with being able to export what you've made? Are you supposed to get a capture card for these things?

This will be interesting to try out, that's for certain. MS-10/MS-20 is one of my favourite hardware synths so I really enjoyed seeing it show up on the DS. Controls were a little off, but for a portable emulation, I had a surprising amount of fun with it. I remember seeing a video online of someone managing to play the synth part of Pink Floyd's On The Run on the DS-10 alone. But if anything, I'd kill for Roland to do something similar with their own back catalog of devices. Roland Gadget (for lack of a better name) with the 303, 606, 808, 909, SH-101, Jupiter-8, Juno-106 etc. (anyone with an interest in electronic music will know these terms) would be divine.

Is the Roland 808 officially emulated anywhere?

I really hope you can just export to your SD card? Otherwise yeah gonna have the record the audio via the headphone jack and it could be inconsistent and another time waster mixing the track before putting it into your entire song.

I know what I am going to do on my upcoming flight to Europe :) - all of Korg's software instruments are amazing, this collection is going to be nothing less!

I'm actually hoping to review this on Switch; its features and UX. KORG PR got back to me saying that they haven't received any codes from Nintendo yet. I'm assuming that, as with a lot of third-party software, they'll likely get them right before launch. I wish Nintendo was promoting this more from their own social accounts. This is a cool tool, and could pave the way for similar software suites making their way to Switch.

There are plenty of close replicas and VST's that could be considered a spitting image, but as far as the 808 goes, nothing official. It's a common thing for Roland hardware; part of the battle is finding a decent-enough emulation if you're not lucky enough to purchase the real thing. And I mean the original, vintage hardware, not their recent re-production line (TB-3/TR-8) with updated technology. Practically given up on the idea of ever owning an original 303 or 808, which is why I work to find the best possible emulation of such a device.

Roland Cloud offers Official TR-808 and TR-909 VSTs , but you have to get it through roland cloud subscription.

On Topic, This thing should be out in a matter of hours!

Not soon enough for my train trip home from work tonight, but that's okay. Can't wait!

Hopefully there's no holdups for the AU/EU store. And the price doesn't translate too badly to AUD.

I lost interest when I heard there was no midi export option, can anyone elaborate on the export functions? Is this still the case?

First thing I checked was the store when I woke up, but still coming soon.

I wonder if this will go live at 10am (18:00 JPN) or if I'll have to wait until 18:00 (UK) for the store update.
