The new Hokkaido arc started last fall and lasted three chapters before he was arrested last November.
Even if we lived in a perfect world were pedophiles were not a thing, why keep going with Kenshin? His story should have ended after shishio or at worst with shogo amakusa
And that stupid OVA that I think is not canon where Kenshin was super ill combined with the boring final episodes of the anime left me with zero desires of seeing kenshin again, I want to settle with an ending where he and kaoru where happy while watching how Japan suffered radical changes

Thats rather amazing. How long of a jump was there between this and the last arc? I remember seeing the Kenshin anime in like 2004, and it was "old" by then.
The original ended in 1999, so it was a 17-year jump.
In terms of in-universe, it wasn't long after where the original series concluded and picked up after a two (or was it three?) chapter prequel featuring a trio of new characters, one of whom possessed Shishio's sword. They were going to have a major role in this new series, too. (Or are now, I guess. Shame I'll never find out since I can't bear to support this)
I guess I'm glad I stuck with the crappier anime then, which had a definite ending but skipped like half of the manga. I'd be pretty upset at not being able to really enjoy this post-cliffhanger.
Sure the anime was crappy after the first arc. But at least I have closure.
Hard to say what the bigger stab in the chest about this, but I am in agreement that the way this has been handled is unfortunate. I liked the series, but can't really say the same about the creator. I'm just going to pretend though the series ended back when it should have and leave it at that.
Its definitely a huge bummer because I also really liked Kenshin.
