This new Netflix original anime just dropped on Friday and it's fantastic. The concept is basically just that this mild mannered office worker girl deals with a bunch of bullshit from her sexist boss and coworkers and she uses karaoke of death metal songs to vent about it.

Trailer, though it doesn't really do it justice:

Turns out it's super relatable and there's no moe or fanservice bullshit either for people who are turned off by that stuff. Anyone else had a chance to check it out yet?

Watched through it. 10 episodes with each one being 15 minutes so it's a short afternoon binge.

I'm surprised to see Sanrio do something for older audiences.

Its pretty unfunny and nondistinct. A lot of it really just boils down to "im angry because I have to go to work at a shitty job and make a living just like everyone else!
I dont see the appeal.

I dont see the appeal.

The appeal is that she's a female worker in an office space that rants her shit out through death metal at night.

I personally think that's cool as fuck.

Its not cleverly written, using "death metal" to show that someone is angry is super cliche and the humor isnt really funny. Its like an animated big bang theory without a catchphrase.

Its not a Netflix original. It's a few years old afaik. It's ok tho the joke wears thin quick.

Wait, is this just the old episodes compiled or is it completely new material?

I've been ignoring it because I thought it was the former.

Watched it all yesterday. I like the main characters (specially Fenneko), the animation works well and there is a decent amount of character development, considering how short it is.

It's a shame that, given that there are so many great female metal singers, they got a dude to do the screaming.

I am not sure they hired metal singers. Just voice actors.
English and Japanese dubs did this. Have the German, French and Spanish version done the same?
Newer series is better than the 100 episode one. Singing every minute wears thin quick.

Watched it all the other day and I adored it - the English dub is actually really good too. I really enjoyed a lot of the humour, and wasn't expecting it to be so geared towards an older audience; not that kids wouldn't enjoy it, but the subject matter's fairly grounded and relatable. Counting to ten to calm down is something I do too lol. It falters a bit near the end I think, but it's perfectly enjoyable. I just want Retsuko to catch a break already!

I'm caught up. It's super super super good and easy to just binge.

You should give it a shot, each episode is only like 2 minutes.

Seen a few of the short vids on YouTube. I assume this is new stuff?

I love that she's a red panda, they're my favorite animals. And for that reason I'm in.

I think the thing I liked most about it is that even though the main draw of the show is that Retsuko's an office lady who belts out death metal ballads to deal with work, that's not really what the show's about. It more follows Retsuko's attempts to find happiness and escape the life she has, which is made all the more clear by the final few episodes...
RESASUKE'S SUCH AN ASSHOLE
He only went out with Retsuko cause he was told to, and he never really gave much of a thought about her. Retsuko ignores the obvious for so long because she only really sees him as a way out since her desperation's gotten to the point where she thinks the only route for her is to get married and spend her life as a housewife - which is even more depressing!
I wasn't really expecting any character depth at all, and all the office politics stuff was unexpected too. It added some more meat to the show which made me appreciate it quite a bit more than I thought I would!

edit: also having watched Detroit Metal City I don't really think the comparisons hold any water at all other than Retsuko secretly liking death metal - the similarity's only really skin deep, so if you go into it expecting something like that you'll probably be disappointed.

Watched 5 episodes so far and this is really good. I gave the german dub a chance because I watched it with friends who are not used to watching something in japanese with subs and it's a way better than I thought it would be.

Also swole protein kangaroo is now my spirit animal.

It is sooooo amazing. They stuff so many gags in 15 minutes. A lot of the advertising focuses on her crappy coworkers and boss, but there is so much in the way her friends interact not only with her but each other, and they are all priceless!

This isn't just the old 2 min shorts right? It's a proper show?

I found the old shorts very one note, they would have to do alot of work to make a proper show out of them.
