I'm at the beginning of Chapter 10. This is the first time I've been legit interested in the main story of a Yakuza game (I rarely paid attention to the cutscenes in Y0 and Kiwami). I'm starting to realize how great Yakuza 6's story is and how the game explores the notion of family.

I love the fact that, despite the story involving dark themes and characters, it has positive messages to offer and unironically makes you think about the human condition - unlike GTA's satire and nihilistic fascination for violence.
If Yakuza 6's story is exciting you, boy did you fuck up by not paying attention in Yakuza 0.

it's cool that's you're into the main story now =)

yeah as lucebuce mentioned, Yakuza 0 has one of the best stories =) You'll have fun with your new game + adventure.

I bought a PS4 Pro some time after I finished Y0 so I'll definitely enjoy the stable 60 ramerate and lack of screen tearing this time :)

Edit: Everyone loves Takeshi Kitano but Tatsuya Fujiwara deserves recognition too. He's a great addition to the main cast and I'm loving him in this game.

Just want to say, if you're replying to a spoiler, please list what spoiler it is in the usual way ie

Otherwise, you'll eventually end up with a spoiler replying to a spoiler, etc and they have no titles and the quote has nothing to indicate what the spoiler is. Can easily end with someone accidentally clicking it and seeing something they don't want to.

That said, with the "Stupid Haruka" spoiler from the last page:

I mean, in Yakuza 1 you can kinda forgive her because she's still a child, and she didn't know much about that whole world yet.

She seemed like she started to wise up in games after that though. She knew that other yakuza were real assholes, and untrustworthy, like Hamazaki. Kiryu also always seemed like he tried to raise her so that she wouldn't be caught up within that world, and she tried to do what was best for the kids.

But what's she do? Oh, just gets super friendly with the local yakuza in Hiroshima, and fucks one of them. STUPID. Seemed out of character based on how she had aged across the series.

This isn't really a huge spoiler, but it is for one of the substories.

I was really bummed that nothing ever comes of this substory. I thought it was so cute how the little girl knew Kiryu was Haruka's dad, and drew that adorable picture...Kiryu even promises to give it to Haruka, but because it's just a substory, we never see that :( I wish we did

Just listing it like that incase.

Anyway, I don't think it's out of character for Haruka to be exposed to the Yakuza in Hiroshima. She grew up with someone who was Yakuza/Ex-Yakuza and knows from experience that they aren't all bad. She can also see the good in people so her ending up with Yuta isn't a huge shock either. Yes she was shocked at him beating up that media guy but my guess is, they spoke about it after - possibly on the same night they fucked. She knew Yuta was a good person. Besides that, it was literal bottom rung of the Hiroshima Yakuza.

It also looks like she met them via Kiyomi and working at the bar so avoiding them wouldn't have worked unless she moved somewhere else. Onomichi is a pretty quiet and out of the way town so it was obviously perfect for her to hide out in.

basically, none of this seemed out of character from her with the way things developed since the end of Yakuza 5/Start of Yakuza 6 imo. And it's also consistent with what she's seen. She knows the Yakuza aren't exactly good but they are nice ones among them including her father figure, Kiryu. She has good instincts for the most part about who is good/bad and who to trust. She had a lapse in judgement with Tatsukawa but evidently, she was still wary of him which led to her running away and her 'accident'

All of it is perfectly consistent and not out of character to me.

As to the other spoiler: Yes, I wish something would have come of that but ya know, it was a substory so nope :(.

anyway, just left Kamurocho for the final boss. :D

Even if what you say has merit, I just still don't like it I guess. It affects me on a personal level I suppose.

I don't really like that the men in this story who seemed to have the most success with girls, had won their affection because of violence. It just upset me on a personal level as someone who's always felt "nice guys finish last" I suppose.

Haruka is just as dumb as Kiyomi was when she was younger, because she married the fucking asshole that was Someya. Sure, by the end, you can tell Someya really loved Kiyomi, but I don't think he deserved her love in return because of how much of a scumbag he is. Yuta may not be as bad as Someya, but they both seemed to get the girl by either enduring, or inflicting violence, on her behalf. That fucking sucks. Once I learned that plot thread about Kiyomi, I just couldn't stand her anymore. Just because she may not have done any violence herself, or would normally seem like a nice person, the fact that she had she such shitty judgement of character in a man she married made me lose so much respect for her.
Haruka falling for Yuta for similar reasons made me lose some respect for her as well. She deserved so much more prior to this game. She deserved huge success as an idol. She deserved to fall in love with someone with a good head on their shoulders. It just depresses the hell out of me.

Well agree to disagree there I guess.

Anyway, finished the game and man, the ending... ;_;

Throughout the ending, I thought Kiryu was dead and then it's like NOPE. Which I'm glad but I was tearing up all the way from his 'death' until it's shown that he's alive. He's also made sure Date was the only one in on it from his friends (though props to Akiyama for not buying it lol).

The bit in the car was well done as well. Majima, Saejima and Daigo. Majima must have just been sad because he wanted to fight Kiryu one last time haha :P

Kiryu walking off into the distance was great as well. He can still come back but it's unlikely and this is the end of his journey now. I hope Yuta, Haruka, Haruto and the Orphans can just live a happy carefree life now free from all the drama of the Yakuza.

Gotta say, the game made me feel some REAL HATRED during certain parts, Someya killing himself to save Kiyomi and then the shot and I was like grrr (of course she's not dead but at the time, so much anger) and then the stuff near the end with Haruka and Haruto.

Also we never found out if Honjo was okay like Date was.

uhh tl;dr: So much feelings. Feelings overload. Hard to express. Anger, sadness, happyness, etc lol.

Kazuma Kiryu is truly one of the greatest protagonists in gaming.

I feel like I'm getting close to the end of the game but I'm also getting really sleepy... However if I go to sleep now I'll wake up with God of War in my mailbox and I feel like that game should take priority. I wish I could finish Y6 before God of War arrives :/

If you're getting close to the end, Yakuza should take priority. That way, you finish one game and then can move straight onto the next. If you start GoW, you're starting a new game that will take a while to finish and you'll still have one left hanging over you.

It'd make a lot more sense to finish Yakuza 6 regardless of if it's tonight or tomorrow than to leave it half finished and then start a new game.

I'm enjoying this way, way more than Yakuza 0.

I think its because the story seems more low key and personal. Idk.

If it were not for God of War I'd already be playing this, but it will be my next game for sure. The demo was super fun and it sounds like it is a relatively more straightforward story/game than some of the other entries.

I've been really enjoying what I've played of Yakuza 6, so much so that I've not really been posting in this thread and just playing. It's been a moment since 0 and Kiwami so it feels great to play a Yakuza game again. I'll definitely finish this before I start playing anything else in my backlog or stuff coming like God of War tomorrow. I've enjoyed the story so far (Chap 6) and my only complaint so far is the occasional screen tearing. Can't wait to play it some more tomorrow!

Stuart444 Those were exactly my feelings after beating the game, haha. Kazuma Kiryu is the most beautiful man in video games.
Thanks guys, I'll start with Zero this weekend! :)

My OCD compels me to sink 80-100hrs when i play the Yakuza games so i wanted to check first haha .
Cheers! You're in for a ride, especially if you like to savor these games. Y6 is great, but 0 is one of the best games I've ever played and the amount of quality content in there is insane.

Huh so I just did the first fight against the triad thugs super early in the game in Little Asia and I finished the fight with like 500+ points in each stats slots... Is that normal? I feel that's this is a LOT of stats upgrades in one go so early lol

Trust me, every bit helps. Those unlocks become expensive as the game continues on.

Hey guys! Glad you're enjoying Y6 so far!

I was looking at your Clan Code list and noticed at least one code you're missing. Heh.

Anyway, stop by the SEGA Live stream tomorrow and hang out with Scott and me. We're gonna play through the first bit of Y6 with localizer commentary!

Was it story-related? Story fights earn you way more than regular battles.

So I played like half of Yakuza 0. Loved it, but this is the one I've really been anticipating due to Takeshi Kitano's role, improved graphics and more seamless exploration. But after an opening hour that felt like the beginning of a series finale, I'm reeeeeeaaaaally starting to feel like I shoulda played through all the previous games and am debating whether to keep playing it or go through 0, Kiwami, Kiwami 2 and the other three. Hmmm....

Yeah this game's impact goes down the less Yakuza games you've previously played through.

So I might be able to *convince* my brother to lend me his ps4 eventually, which I believe is the regular non-pro version. After searching around a bit there seems to be very little impact on playing either of Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1/2 and 6 on a pro-machine. I found some info in the era ps4 pro enhanced-thread, e.g. more stable 60fps on the pro compared with minor dips on non-pro in 0/Kiwami and marginally better AA and DOF in 6. Do you guys agree with these assessments?

Edit; My apologies, this was obviously better suited in the Yakuza community thread. Moved it there so feel free to ignore.

Agree with this. 6's main story beat is being the finale for Kiryu and Haruka, so if you've played the earlier games it makes that ending that much more powerful.

Damn it, haha. Welp, guess this can be one to look forward to while playing through the others then. Maybe remasters of 3-5 for PS4 will be announced by the time I'm finishing up Kiwami 2.

Nope. Pro gets rid of the screen tearing on 6. That makes an enormous difference to me, no way would I touch Yakuza 6 on a regular PS4 after playing it on a Pro. 0 and Kiwami are correct though, as they get rid of the screen tearing in a couple of areas and frame rate dips are gone in all but one boss fight of 0.

Ok, thanks for that. I do have a pretty good LG-tv with 4k and hdr, so it would be more reasonable to get a pro in a sense but I know it would be mainly a Yakuza-machine for me, as my ps3 was. Maybe I just buy copies of 0 and Kiwami atm then and play on my brother's machine and then maybe try to get a cheap pro for 6 if I still want to later. Played all of Yakuza 1-5 + Dead Souls on ps2&3 but then jumped ship.

I'm really digging this game so far. For someone like me who doesn't enjoy the combat of these games, I'm REALLY liking Yakuza 6's.

It doesn't feel ass janky and dated with a lot of superfluous upgrades and abilities. It also feels more tactical than 0 or Kiwami. It's less about building up combos on single enemies that only attack you one at a time for heat moves and more about bobbing and weaving and switching who you're attacking at any time for crowd control. I also enjoy how much weighter it feels thanks to the new physics system. But it's still got plenty of incredible heat moves and a lot of cinematic flair. The biggest upgrade for me coming off of 0 and Kiwami.

I've done a handful of the side quests and the ones I've done have been fantastic. My favorites so far are the one about the Haruka super-fan and the Nier/Evangelion-esque AI application quest that has a few existential moments in it.

But there's bad shit too... I was reading that a lot of the iconic characters take the back seat and are barely mentioned in this game? That's kind of a bummer. Not really feeling the transition to 30FPS either and some of the anti-aliasing is atrocious. And the screen-tearing... I almost want to go get a pro right now

I'm in Chapter 12. When the story is less personal and starts dealing with clan wars and their intricacies I find it really difficult to follow :( So many characters and names to keep track of.

That's the Yakuza way lol. I'm really bad with Japanese names too, so it's EXTRA hard to keep track of all these characters and groups.

Fighting and ragdol is superior, I love it! Having much more fun with this then Y0.

This is effectively 2016 game, which means we're going to see what they've improved in the next game very soon! I kind of like the fact they release these games early and so get hidden until release nears. By that time the team is well on it's way to reveal the next one !

Yeah, especially if you've only played the PS4 games, because

you won't have a proper idea of what the relationship between Kiryu and Daigo actually is - even though they touch upon it in the recaps.
