Are you new to VR?

When i first started to work on VR i think the first couple of times i got the worst headache ever. There is a ramp of endurance that i had to build up. Now its not a problem. DS was designed to minimize the nausea feeling with the locomotion we use, so it might just be your sensibility to using the design. That, or maybe the pressure of the headset on the bridge of your nose? I know when i started using the headset, depending on the one it would get some uncomfortable feeling until i got used to the hardware.

Thanks for the reply. I've had my Vive about six months now, and I seem to do fine teleporting in various games but my attempts at direct movement lead to queasiness. Some people have suggested that using Natural Locomotion is a way to ease into direct movement, but like I said, any indoor situation where the walls are close by (be it DS or Skyrim) brings on the problem as the walls move by. I had a similar experience years ago with Mirrors Edge on PC...I was fine outside, but narrow rooms, corridors, and stairways were a problem because the game required you to move fast. I have no problem with pancake corridor-type FPS as long as I can move at my own rate, so it's not like I'm really susceptible to motion sickness. I think in VR my body is just too sensitive to the disconnect with moving through indoor VR space while my real body is still.

edit: Incidentally, I find the Vive very comfortable to wear, but if I have it on a bit too long I'll feel the pressure on the back of my head, but that usually takes about an hour.

We had a thing where with any jitter, or getting to close to a wall would bounce me back involuntarily, that would bring a major headache. So i can understand that. There are just a lot of little things that might add to the feeling. Also the speed at which you move might trigger it. Messing around with values of the game did that to me quite a bit. From too fast, to the sudden stop of flying into a wall. I dunno if i can stand more now that i am used to it, but i do know that Horus was made with that in mind so its lesser to an extent.

I like the teleport mode tho but its a bit jarring.

I feel the same way - when Soundboxing has literally thousands of songs to do almost the same thing to, a limited pool of around 10 songs seems pretty underwhelming.
That's the trade off for well crafted beat maps which Beat Saber obviously has from the trailers. I like Soundboxing a lot but relying on community made maps is really hit or miss to the point that sometimes I don't feel like wading through the selections. It would be nice if BS could get more songs though.

Does anyone know if it's releasing in early access or is this the full release?

Having used the Pro for a good amount now, here are my thoughts:

1. Resolution bump is legit.

2. I'm not as big of a fan of the "deluxe" audio strap as others. Removing the on-board speakers (since I use Bose headphones) makes it better but I honestly believe I'd prefer going back to the original strap. It's a little easier to put the entire thing on and off and with less plastic it's lighter. I think the loss of slightly better weight distribution wouldn't bother me. However, at this point I have the strap on the Pro adjusted to how I like it and it's quite comfortable. Also, since they're not swappable (this deluxe strap is not the same as the one you could put on the original VIVE), I'd have to do some custom work and lose the ability to sell my original HMD, so I doubt I'm going to bother.

3. God-rays seem to be more pronounced on the Pro, at least in some games.

4. Going down to one cable from HMD to link box makes a difference.

5. No issues using the original base stations and controllers.

Bottom line is this: if you have $800 burning a hole in your pocket and you plan to get the Pro anyway, it's an appropriate purchase. Otherwise, you can wait.

Thanks for the answer! I guess I'll wait what Oculus will do in the near future.

Before a possible investment in a new headset, I'll move into my new house in one and a half months. First project will be an entertainment room with a dedicated VR space. I'm hyped.

I introduced my wife (girlfriend at the time) to Psychonauts a few years ago, and when Rhrombus of Ruin was announced, we contemplated getting a PSVR just for that even though we had a Vive and a Rift... She LOVES Psychonauts now and she even named our dog Raz. Today is the day we've been waiting for forever. I'm so excited to finally play that game with her tonight!

That's awesome, congrats. I'm renting a condo right now and the bedroom is pretty small. I have plenty of space if I push the bed over to the wall but I can't wait to have a house with a room or basement space I can dedicate to VR.

What are the must haves on Steam? I want to get a couple since there is the VR Spring sale now. I haven't spent a dime on a VR game yet (played most of the good free ones + Fallout 4 I got free with the Vive) since I was waiting for a sale like this.

I own about 25 of them already, and you almost can't go wrong with any of the featured titles and most of the games in the "More" section.

Downward Spiral: Horus Station is on its last stretch and I thought I would raise some awareness of it here. Even tho the game has a flat version that can be played with K+M or a controller, the best immersive experience would be in VR. So this seems like a good place to post.

http://store.steampowered.com/app/690620/Downward_Spiral_Horus_Station/

There are a whole bunch of previews and articles I can link of people that have tried the game, as well as some Dev Diaries and a 17 min demo of the game running on PC.

I'll be happy to answer any questions you guys have on the game if interested.

Things to expect.
• Atmospheric and mysterious solo or two player online co-op zero-g sci-fi thriller
• A complete environmental storytelling experience without dialogue or cinematics
• Totally new way to experience movement in zero g
• Electronic ambient soundtrack composed by platinum selling HIM frontman Ville Valo
• Range of bolt throwers, rail guns, grappling magnets and electro magnetic devices to use against threats
• Optional Explorer mode that completely removes threats leaving the story and puzzles
• 8 player zero g deathmatch, survivor and horde modes
• Playable in Flat or VR mode

Can't say the price just yet but expect a price and release date soon.

Just got started with PCVR. I am using Trinus and Nolo with my PSVR, it took a little trial and error but it works pretty darn well.
This spring sale is just what i needed, i'm planning on getting that Sariento/Eternal Warrior/Dead Effect 2 pack. I also picked up Just In Time Inc for the kids.

Thanks! Yeah, these all look pretty good. I'm really enjoying Serious Sam VR TFE, so I'm gonna pick up that Croteam bundle for $50. Got a couple of others picked out as well, but I don't want to go over $100 so this is gonna be hard. All weekend to decide though.

Pavlov is great, especially at 6 bucks.

Guns feel good, seems to be a healthy player base. The inverse kinematics are pretty laughable but I think part of that is to keep torso positioning predictable in gunfights

Pavlov has always been an insane deal. Feels so great to play. I think it's quite polished. Lots of fun to be had.

Tilt Brush is at a great price for the Mario Paint of VR.

There's a lot of decent deals on a ton of titles, but I think I already own everything I'm interested in in PCVR.

I would say 4 to 5 hrs. Depending on the pace. If you play coop maybe 5 to 6. Across 8 chapters. This is the full realization of a game from the vertical slice that was prologue.

I tried it briefly during my Viveport free trial. I only got through the tutorial and then a few minutes more. Personally wasn't too impressed. It was very janky. My first go at the tutorial, it bugged out and something dropped to the floor, leaving me unable to pick it up to proceed. Maybe there's some workaround, but I couldn't find it.

Eternity Warriors looks really neat.

Also looking for recommendations for a "mess around and have fun with" VR game... like a "be a monster" or such kind of thing. Sandboxy fun! Thanks! :)

I bought Invisible Hours on sale a while ago but finally booted it up. It's cool so far. I like the idea. It's a great VR experience so far.

Also I bought Pinball FX2 VR for $6 on Steam and it's also fun to just get the base tables at $2 a piece. Pinball translates really well to VR. I am using an Xbox controller w/ Rift though and it seems to need to be booted in Steam not Oculus Home for the controller to work correctly. But, get over that and it's great to have the VR and depth perception of Pinball. Too bad additional table choice seems to have dried up.

I've been eyeing that up for a while and was hoping it would be on sale now, but it's still full price :(

Still, Skyrim VR will keep me going until at least the summer sale.

Which VR FPS did you suck at?

Pavlov is kinda medium speed. You can also play against bots, which only go from easy to medium as a challenge, really. It can be real fun to do go akimbo against the bots and such.

Yeah. One of the community guys on the Steam forum let it out that they had abandoned any additional VR work (quite a long time ago). It's all we're getting until VR starts proving profitable for developers. Season pack 1 is still very good IMO. Maybe it's because I was always a fan of Paranormal and Earth Defense (looked aweseome even with 3D Vision), but I think it's a pretty good selection of tables. I'd certainly recommend them.

Onward and REC room are the first that come to mind. I play a lot of operations in onward but its so hard to get into multiplayer since everyone already knows all the hiding spots on every map.

Eternity Warriors to me feels more like an VR game for an Arcade. It even has a mode for Arcades. The gameplay itself isnt that bad, but cant compare to other Waveshooters like Arizona or the Serious Sam one.

Vanishing Realms or Mages Tale?
haven't played vanishing, but I enjoyed Mage's Tale. Its roughly 10 hours long with a balance of puzzle solving, combat and exploration.
The exploration and puzzle solving was my favourite aspect, theres a ton of hidden rooms that sometimes have their own puzzles to solve to unlock new crating items or a new secret area within :P

The combat is "ok". not much depth to it which I believe vanishing realms may focus more on. You're restricted to spell casting only, no melee. Its an early vr release that shows the potential of vr rpg games. The 2nd half of the game is great, the 1st half can feel very repetitive with the enemies being goblins. The 2nd half really changes things up, Just a shame they do it so late.

It's still a game I recommend though. :)

1st hour of game (this was recorded after i completed the game so i knew how to solve each puzzle, so on first playthrough this might be more like first 2 hours):

I have a mini review in the vid info too.

The end of the vid does show a boss battle at 46 mins in though if you dont want spoilers.

There's probably going to be lots of noobs in pavlov because of this sale. I had fun in my first games last night and I'm no spec ops soldier.

Vanishing Realms or Mages Tale?
That's a hard one. They're pretty different. Vanishing Realms is shorter and focuses mostly on shield + melee combat. It's really satisfying slower paced combat where you block and parry and wait for openings. It also has bow and arrow and some spell casting but that's kind of secondary.

Mage's Tale is longer and focuses purely on spell casting. There's some depth to it but not a whole lot in actual execution though it's still fun. That said MT is a lot more polished as it's not made by one guy (though don't get me wrong, Vanishing Realms is pretty polished) and feels like a "full" game with voice acting and a story etc with lots of secrets hidden around. It's hard to go wrong with either. Just a matter of what sounds more appealing to you.

Is Pavlov all fast paced PvP? I freaking suck at multiplayer fps in VR so bad. I'm just physically not quick enough lol
One thing I like about Pavlov is that it's fun even when you're dieing. Just go in to a team deathmatch game or any other where you respawn and it won't really matter if you're doing well or not. Shooting the guns alone is pretty satisfying and so is every kill even if you die 4 times out of 5 encounters. Onward is a good game, but I don't have a lot of fun with it since a lot of rounds I don't even get a shot off and end up spending most of the game at the death camp lol. Pavlov is a lot faster even in the single spawn Search and Destroy modes so dieing isn't that much of an issue.

Vanishing Realms or Mages Tale?

Some people consider Vanishing Realms an abandoned early access title, the positive reviews don't lie tho... for 12 bucks I'd buy it. You get 4 to 6 hours of an action RPG out of it, focus on action and exploration. Mechanics do not go deep into any system, it's all superficial and theres not really a story, it feels more like a proof of concept but I really enjoyed it back in 2016.

(No idea about Mages Tale, nearly 40 bucks, I'm not going in for that price!)

------------

With the Steam sale, I'm interested in picking up a rhythm title. Can anyone recommend AudioShield vs. Airtone, or am I better off waiting for Beat Saber?

They are very different, a closer comparison is Audioshield vs Soundboxing or Airtone vs Holodance. Audioshield is not a rythmgame in the traditional sense, Airtone is hardcore rythmgame which ramps up in difficulty fast. Airtone doesn't have a youtube feature to play new songs, so you're stuck with the genre this game goes with (japanese pop music).

---------------------

I've bought Dash Dash Run for 99 cent and Sprint Vector for 19 bucks... thought I'd contrast and compare them as they seemingly try to do similar things. The first looking like a very low budget indi game through and through and the latter like a big budget game...comparatively.
I'll try to look into them in the next couple of days.

Bought Mages Tales.

Heads Up. The 25% Mages Tale Coupon that people got works on the -25% the game is off now, so you get it for around 45% off.
ahh... god damnit. And here I thought I'd be safe from this Steam Sale considering I've been spending all my time in SkyrimVR, and plan on keeping there for another good 40+ hours... I might actually get this now.

I recommend Thumper. If you are into breaking a sweat I would recommend BOXVR as well. I also have Airtone, Audioshield and Racket. You can't go wrong with any of them. Airtone is harder for me (kind of like Guitar Hero) than Audioshield and I like how my own music matches Audioshield (play on harder difficulty is better) but Airtone is more polished. Racket is more like the old Breakout game and is better with other people. I am also really eager to get Beat Saber though. Sorry I didn't really make a decision for you because I like them all, lol.

I wouldn't consider Racket NX a rhythm game. That said, it's pretty good.
