Glad to see a thread about this; I almost made one myself! I will take every rhythm game on Switch. Whether I review them or not, I will spend money on ALL of them until we get a new Rhythm Heaven announcement.

Sooooo, that trailer either didn't actually show how the game plays, or I'm just getting super old.

Vita means life. This actually looks very similar to Guitar Hero and Amplitude, could be interesting!

Via Gematsu in case the tweet isn't clear-
"The Switch version will be available both physically and digitally, with the first 5,000 copies of the physical edition featuring limited edition package art. The PlayStation 4 and PS Vita versions will only be available digitally at launch, and Limited Run Games will release a limited-print physical edition at a later date."

Based on screenshots (& that trailer), it looks like DJMAX (PM Studios published both, so makes sense) & Beatmania. Sure, I'm in. Debating if I want Vita or PS4, mainly do I want to use my bluetooth headphones on a portable device or my 43" TV with speakers.

I've played it on Android off and on for a while, it's not bad and does have some good tracks. The trailer in the tweet however is completely baffling. Unless they've remade the entire game, it basically shows nothing.

The trailer in the post above is representative, but also here's what the Android version plays like:

I hope that's the Vita boxart.

Here's some actual gameplay from the Switch Version
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0Hz_F8Muwk

Looks like it is the same as the Android version then, nice. I'd grab that on Switch for sure.

As with any rhythm game thread, I'll take a quick sec to recommend my favorite game of this type, Dynamix, on Android/iOS to anyone who thinks Musynx looks fun. Here's some high rank gameplay, but don't let it intimidate you - the lower rank versions of the songs are quite a bit easier.

Awwww yiss! I've had this preordered for ages. Good to know it's only a couple months away. And HELL yeah, free music updates!

Is this from the same people who developed Superbeat Xonic? PM Studios and acttil published that one too, I think.

This looks like a simplified version of the Superbeat model, which is actually good for me as I'm not that great at DJMAX-style rhythm games because they get hectic really fast, but I wonder if they find additional ways to up the difficulty later (like, is there a six-button mode, or is it just more complex beatmaps/faster tempos?).

Though watching that Switch footage, it seems like it'll already be plenty difficult just from the beatmaps...

This is being published by PM Studios, who did make & publish Superbeat Xonic, correct. I don't think they developed Musync as the mobile version seems to be developed or published by "I-Inferno". They just seem to be handling the US console port, based on some searching.

If anything, from what I've seen, this looks to be just the 4B mode of DJMAX, as that mode also uses left, up, Triangle, & Circle for that mode.

Heeeey, it's that old PlayStation Mobile game! Still have it on my Vita, it's pretty fun despite being super... loose? Idk how best to describe it. It's like the rhythm game equivalent of floaty platformers lol. It doesn't feel as great as some others, but there's still enjoyment.

Will probably buy it, followed by Voez whenever that comes out physically.

It does bear some similarity to those games. I'd also say that it resembles Rock Band Unplugged for PSP, right down to the control configuration.

Oh wow, I don't remember a game like this coming out on PlayStation Mobile. I probably wasn't paying attention. I found this video of the PS Mobile game (called Musync), and it looks good.

Have you ever played Rock Band Unplugged on PSP? If so, how would you compare these games?

Never played Rock Band Unplugged, sorry.
Have played DJMax Portable, and the poster above who said it's the Four Button mode from that game is right on the money — though there's also a Five Button mode in Musync, with a middle track that can be played with Right/Square.

The biggest difference to me was that the timing windows are a *lot* more forgiving in Musync, and there's no health bar (unsure about Musynx). It's like a casual rhythm game with not-casual charts available on the higher difficulties.

Holy crap, that is EXACTLY like DJMAX as well.

Next you'll be telling me there's a 6 button mode where the right & square buttons are their own separate notes now. & a 8B mode that throws the shoulder buttons in on top of the 6 buttons.

Granted, not much different you can make a "beatmania, but with a controller" style of rhythm game.

Also, should be noted that the digital version (at least for Switch) will be $26.99 (...weird price, guess it's a 10% off discount), where as the retail version will be $29.99.....which with Prime or Best Buy GCU, brings it down to $24.

Damn, I had forgotten that only the Switch version is getting a physical retail release while I'd have to go to Limited Run Games to get a PS4 copy. What's with that? I get why with Vita, but with this & SNK Heroines, I don't get why it's harder for me to get a physical PS4 copy.

I'm really excited for this. I loved Superbeat Xonic when I played it earlier this year, but I'm in the mood for a more traditional music game now, and this looks like it'll fit the bill. That litmus song is fucking cool.

Getting it on Switch.

I have no idea what I just watched. But I think I liked it. Hooray Vita!

Edit - looking at above post - looks awesome. Like beatmania from the days of old, or at least last I remember playing them. Lookin good tho

*sees new footage*....I need to stop being surprised at how much this is almost exactly like DJMAX at this point.

I mean, it just continues to cement my purchase on the retail version (assuming I can actually GET IT from LRG), but wow. If anything, aside from learning to adjust to the notes coming from an angle, I can't help but wonder if I'll just blast through this considering I can full combo songs that're rated 11 or 12 out of 15 on DJMAX Respect. Anyone able to compare the two in terms of difficulty?

I really want that boxart with the purple haired girl

Of course Amazon Canada lists it as unavailable because they're garbage like that

EBGames lists it in stock with that boxart, guess I'll go with that. Hopefully it won't end up being the other version, I'm gonna be so pissed if it is.

Probably because logistics suggest switch owners are buying these gamws up and are more likely to buy them physically

Oh right, this is out next Tuesday. Still waiting for LRG to announce their plans for the PS4 physical version.

Any word on the total song count at launch? I'm guessing this is going with the usual "songs are 1:30 average" which I'm okay with.
