Game could be damn gorgeous, but the graphics are kinda ruined by the terrible aliasing and the low res shadows.

I would've loved to see a pc release for this game. The ps4 is not worthy.
Yeah the aliasing is fucking brutal... I wish there was a resolution mode on PS4 Pro... Doesn't look like there's any options at all for the Pro actually?

Dear all, remember to save up for that plane ticket to Hiroshima! This game really makes you wanna visit the place.

I've played the game for a few hours yesterday and I really like it so far (I barely touched chapter 2, because I'm exploring the city). I love how the fights actually take place in the world now, the progression system looks nice and there's plenty of small changes like cars driving within the play area as well (I've only played 0 and Kiwami).

The graphics are probably the most disappointing thing, the aliasing can be very annoying:

It's rather disappointing that they couldn't get the resolution of the Pro version beyond 1080P. The aliasing really hurts the overall IQ of the game.

Great OP.
Man, really wish I could justify both this a God of War day 1. It's at the absolute top of my backlog.

Came to work at 7am for the first time in quite a while just so I can get home earlier and get some real hours into this today lol. Is the Yakuza 5 recap in it long? I don't really need a 30min involved summary of every little thing that happened, more of a general "this is where we were left off" type of thing,

Pro eliminates the screen tearing from the base game. That was reason enough for me to get a Pro back when the Japanese version of 6 was released in 2016. Made a world of difference to me.

If you use the codes for Clan Battles, it becomes really easy, no idea why they did that.

Easy yes but the last missions and online will wreck you. I play Clan creator since two weeks online and it's brutal lol

It's the last 10 minutes of Yakuza 5 and then it keeps going like this. Recap is after this and skippable by just running to the light

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean. Are you saying the first 10 minutes of Y6 are the exact same as the last 10 minutes of Y5, after which Y6 starts proper, and sometime after THAT you get a recap video of Y5? Figured the recaps for the earlier games would just be videos you watch from the main menu if you want to, like they were in the PS3 Yakuzas iirc.

The reason why I ask is that I don't want to spend the first hour with the game just watching videos of older games, so I'm wondering if I should just.. Read a summary of Y5 events online during lunch break or something.

I only "played" for like an hour (mostly cutscenes) but the first scene with new Haruka was hilarious. Suddenly, within like 5 hours (max) she ages 5 years. They clearly didn't want to make a separate model for the flashbacks, so they just inserted older Haruka to play younger Haruka.

The game starts like Yakuza 5 never ended. No Video flashbacks, just characters that you can talk to. If you know what happened to Kiryu at the end of 5 you can guess how they do the recaps this time, but they are only text.

Still waiting on my collector's edition after rushing through the game back in February. Dropped difficulty from Hard to Easy at the end of the game last time, now gotta beat entire game in Legend.

I don't even notice the aliasing people keep talking about >.> in the game that is, the pictures posted above I do but while playing, nope.

Anyway game should arrive by lunchtime or so :D can't wait. Been playing the demo for the last few days. Got 2000 - 3200 exp in most of the exp things (apart from purple which is around 1300ish), all side quests I can actually complete done with the rest done as far as I can, all rizap done and about 800k yen.

Looking forward to actually continuing with the story :D

Speaking of graphics, the character models look great. There is something about the lighting that I really like as well

Can you take screenshots at any non-story scene? (I assume story scenes are blocked as usual)

Just checking because Onomichi looks like a beautiful place for screenshots.

Just finished the game last night so I can get my review done today (props to Sega for sending review code out super early so I could finish it despite being on vacation!). Was really impressed with the game overall; the 30 FPS is disappointing but they've streamlined a lot of the busy-work and frustrating elements from previous games (you can run away from random battles and the self-heal from Kiwami is gone completely).

I can imagine some complaining it's too easy/casual, but the story was by far the most emotionally involving of the 3 Yakuza games I've played (0 and Kiwami being the other two), and the pacing was great. Very satisfying stuff.

Honestly, I'm glad to hear it's easy. The combat, especially in the 30fps titles, has always been the low point of the games for me. I expect the ragdolls and better physics engine in general to make fights more entertaining, but I'm definitely playing this on easy.

That feel when you see the game's icon on your screen but can't play it due to not having it downloaded thanks to a slow ass internet connection.

I've been thinking about getting this, never played a Yakuza game before but going through the entire series at this point would probably take a long time. I wanted to jump in straight with Yakuza 6 but seems like the experience is underwhelming especially as a first experience with Yakuza so probably going to get Kiwami 2 at release in August. This game is absolutely amazing and is getting a great amount of streamers playing it on Twitch. The game is doing well.

Did my part as a Yakuza fan. Got the game.

I don't think I will start it yet though as I am a bit busy and the hype of GOW4 is too strong. Will need sometime off so that I can play the game. As I would be glued to it it for hours I am sure.

Yakuza 6 has a recap of all the previous games and it's not that important to know what happened before. Don't worry and enjoy the game

Got my After Hours edition on Saturday and since then I've managed to get as far as Chapter 4, playing on Hard. Really enjoying the game, love the seamless nature of being able to enter the arcades and bars and restaurants without having a loading screen. Everything feels so streamlined compared to 0 and Kiwami (only games I've played, started with 0), up to and including the completion list. I've 100%ed the completion list in 0 and Kiwami and will probably do the same with 6, although it appears from the trophies that you don't need to do everything for the trophy this time around.

I've had one game over so far because I just don't have any money to heal myself or buy medicine - I've been on 25 Yen for a while now. In Kamurocho enemies would drop money on occasion but
in Jingaicho
random encounters don't seem to drop any money at all - eventually I got to a story encounter with hardly any health and just had to let myself die so I could continue with a full HP bar. At least I know to be conservative with my money at the beginning of a Legend playthrough! Presumably some sort of revenue stream will open up later in the story.

You should get access to

shortly, I was kind of confused at the lack of income until this part.

Do you have access to the Cabaret Club? If so, and unless something is different in Yakuza 6s version of it, that should make you a lot of money :)

edit: Misinfo, see my post below >_< sorry

So it doesnt completely destroy the overall story for me. I mean, i know that every game has a standalone story..

Well you'll be spoiled by some little bits, the end of 5 (not by much though, just the cliffhanger) and characters from 4 - 5 but overall, nah. You should still be able to enjoy the story in 3 - 5. Nothing from 6 should affect it*

*I haven't played past the Trial demo stuff but I doubt anything happens later that will affect previous games in a big way.

Already had some of those, doing them didn't seem to get me any money though. I guess it depends which mission it is?

I can go to Club Shine when I'm back in Kamurocho (I haven't done anything there yet, it was too expensive to request a girl etc due to aformentioned money problems!) - if you mean there's going to be a Cabaret Club sidequest like Majima's in Yakuza 0, I've not had that come up yet.

Yeah, unless I misunderstood something, it should be the exact same more or less as Y0. (You can even see in the completion list, get girls to diamond rank, etc).

Don't know when it unlocks though.

Keep in mind, I might be completely wrong. I'm just going off what I read in the completion list and may be misunderstanding it (I read the whole thing last night just out of curiosity lol)

edit: Besides that, in Kamurocho, the Triads near little Asia drops a bit of money, like 50,000 yen (up to) and the vending machines have lucky sodas nearby (the red machines).

That's how I made a lot of money in the demo anyway. Besides that, pawn shop stuff?

edit: yeah Cabaret club seems different in this game, sorry for the misinfo

Good to know! Ironically my one game over I mentioned was from a story encounter that triggers in front of the pawn shop in the second location, haha - I had just remembered I had some plates on me I could have sold to heal myself for the next fight (which was marked further away on the map) but the game scuppered me good.

I beat the last boss in this game with like 1% of my health left and no healing items remaining. My most heart-pounding gaming moment in quite a while (even though the game is actually pretty easy).

Amazon has shipped my After Hours Edition, should be arriving tomorrow.

I do have Zero to finish though and Kiwami to start too, after I finish God of War....... It's crazy how there are so many great games at the moment but not enough time to play them unless I quit work lol

Hoping my after hours edition arrives today. If it does it'll be high time to open up my Yamazaki 12 year old for the occasion.
