I also prefer Prime 1 over the other two (though I never played much of 3) but I doubt even Nintendo could get away with selling it on its own unless it was either budget priced/digital only or if it was a full on remake.

Like others have said, they were bundled already on the Wii. There's no reason to separate them.
Didn't we get multiple versions of LoZ and SMB after they were part of compilations?
Super Mario all-stars---->SMB on Wii, Wii U, 3DS, NES classic

Zelda master quest on GCN-----> LoZ on Wii, Wii U, 3DS, NES classic

The argument put forth by some in here that the Metroid Prime games can't be seperated and resold seperately because they were sold together on Wii holds absolutely no water.

In fact, if you go even further there is ample precedent for actually doing a remaster of game with all new graphics, then going back and rereleasing the original shitty looking version.

I'm not sure that comparison holds up. Those are emulated VC releases at a much lower price point and the NES Classic is still a compilation of games. If Wind Waker and Twilight Princess were in compilations beforehand, you might have had a point.

Unless Gamecube VC actually happens, they're going to have to change it up anyway. The GC version of Prime 1 doesn't have widescreen support, while the trilogy version doesn't have the original control scheme. Neither support HD. At that point, you might as well make a port of the entire trilogy.

Releasing the trilogy coming up to the release of Prime 4 would also make more sense.

Not to flog the bishop too heavily, but it is strange this perception that Metroid Prime could not stand on it's own as a remaster. It's Metacritic is

97

how many of those are there? 3? 4?
It's because it's literally been released in one package with the other two critically acclaimed games in the trilogy for $50 on the Wii.

A $40-$60 HD remaster if Prime 1 alone would be insane given that.

I think it's safe to assume that Prime 4 is a soft-reboot given it'll be 12+ years since Prime 3 and it'll have a different dev team. Same gameplay as Prime, just without the baggage to let new players jump in.

Should be. The Metroid Prime/Dark Samus storyline has concluded. Prime 4 seems to be a story about a man named Sylux stealing a Metroid, at least that's how new players will see it.

Prime Trilogy HD would be such a dream. With the Shenmue remasters happening, anything is possible now.

Do you guys think Nintendo should do something similar to a Game Pass?

Yes.

It should be called Virtual Console. It would be the best way to monetize their back catalogue. They could also include paid online as part of the package.

Most would pay $10-15 a month for unlimited access to Nintendo's NES to Wii back catalogue + premium online multiplayer.

This would be great PR as it would allow Nintendo to sell the Switch as having free (basic) online unlike other platforms

So I have to wonder how Nintendo would do a VC service system. I would assume it starts off with like 100 games or so. Every month rotate games out and rotate games in. They could play this well with GC games because they know people want these badly. Space them out to where people would have to basically subscribe every month to get the next "big" GC games. Lol

Like release Paper Mario: TTYD on October 1st then Eternal Darkness November 3 and Chibi Robo November 21. It's just an example, but I could see them doing sketching similar.

I think they may still offer a way to purchase them too.

Offering a purchase would be dumb and cut into their profits. Personally i would just buy 1 or 2 games that i have nostalgia for and call it quits. If i could purchase them.

As a subscription i would spend $10 to play Mario Kart 64 once during one or two months a year. I would spend $10 to try out Starfox Assault ect. Then it starts to add up. If you want to keep players invested offer "remasters" of classic games on the service.

Parents would love it because they would pay $100 a year for unlimited games vs $100 for 2 games that their child may not like.

Adults would pay it because they have disposable income. They would also justify it for the Premium multiplayer.

Nintendo would like it because it gives them a consistent revenue stream you could be looking at 100M a month year one and eventually 300-500M a month.

Making up to a half billion dollars a month for back catalogue games is far more money then they likely make selling them. Even with full priced remasters (which would require far more effort)

It also gives Nintendo better Data about what their customers are playing. Should any older IP be bought back ect.

Easy man. I know it will cut into their profits. I think they will do the subscription route. Just screw it. That's the world we live in today. Just make Virtual Console subscription base and move forward from there. Just because you will only pay so often doesn't mean others won't pay and keep the subscription going. I'm sure it'll start off with a hundred game for so (idk).

I do like the remasters of classic games. I know they're doing the online features for NES (SNES?) games for signing up with their online subscription, but if they do the VC subscription they should add online to games like F-Zero if they can.

Something story driven is pretty much my only want at the moment. Octopath will be here soon and i'm looking forward to seeing Fire Emblem in action. I would also love to see something completely new from Retro Studios...have there been any rumors about what they could be working on?

Just imagine what game you want Retro to work on. That's what they've been working on. There are no good rumors. We have a LinkedIn profile from a Retro employee though.

I personally want to see what Next Level Games are making. They've handled quite a few Nintendo franchises already and I just have a gut feeling they're doing another new one for them. Our first Splatoon spin-off?

Or Luigi's Mansion 3 would be cool, considering 2 made hella cash.

Our next big movement as a fanbase is to pressure Nintendo into restoring the Eternal Darkness IP back to active development. For this generation of fans, this is our mission.

Nobody ever discusses this or anything here. I kind of hate this Nintendo topic lol.

But anyways their last game was MP:FF did release in September 2016. They could've started their next game a little before that. They could make Punch Out since they've done that before too. I think it's LM3. This is their first HD system so we have to give them time.

If we're giving our wishlists about genres we want to see from Nintendo, I'm gonna say loot-driven ARPG like Diablo or Borderlands. The last Nintendo game that gave me any loot-based satisfaction was Kid Icarus Uprising.

We need more of that.

Put Borderlands on Switch, extend local co-op between switch screens and BAM!
instant million seller.

Well yeah, but I actually meant a Nintendo first party developed loot-driven title.

Also Borderlands 3 is seemingly going to be announced this year, this isn't really related to this thread but I'm wondering what the chances of it coming to Switch are. I'm kinda surprised 2 hasn't been ported over already to be honest.

I'll be curious to see how similar MP4's gameplay is to the originals.

I expect the morphball stuff to stay unchanged, but I could see each of the combat, first person platforming, and puzzle solving be dramatically changed.

I wonder how they'll modernize Metroid Prime 4. Do any of you think they'll bring back Samus's ship being used for tasks? Do you think they'll expand any manual flying in space.

I do believe it'll only be one planet like Metroid Prime, but much larger.

I would think because of the art style the switch could really do it justice. I'd be hot for a Nintendo cel shaded style loot game though as well.

More like the opposite, going by what Monkey says. GoW ditched the gameplay and tonal baggage, he says 4 keeps the gameplay and ditches lore (which btw goes against what Tanabe has said in the past).
I imagine he'll follow up on the Sylux stuff at the end of Prime 3 and FF but stuff like Pazon, Dark Samus, etc. that was a major focus of the first three is pretty much done for.

Metroid Prime was kind of ahead of it's time in a lot of ways, so there isn't much it needs to really modernize. Maybe more seamlessness between rooms/areas and more destructible environments?

Cel shading has little to no bearing on how well something can run on any particular hardware (if that's what you were trying to suggest).

Whoa! That's sounds like it could be something new and quite ambitious. I'm going to let my imagination run wild now. Thanks for this!
No problem. I'm on the bandwagon Retro is making a brand new IP. I think it's definitely ambitious (atleast for Nintendo's standards). I'm not expecting realistic visuals or 50+ million put into it.

Wind Waker, yes
Twilight Princess, depends on how you define remaster, I'd say no

and TP was done by an external studio

I would not call it a remaster, it's like a HD port. I'm expecting Metroid Prime to follow that route honestly.

There was some news way back that Gearbox said Nintendo wasn't prioritizing having Borderlands 3 on the switch so don't expect it.

Eh, is it really though if Sylux is a big part?

If he is, this game's story will have been set up by one DS spin-off, and two post credits scenes. Hardly a reboot from a story perspective. New chapter? Sure

He's not that big of a part. I highly doubt you'll have to play any of the other prime games in order to get it.

I guess I'm thinking more on the online multiplayer side. I don't expect Metroid Prime 4 until late 2019. Lets say they started in 2016 it'll be atleast 3 years of development. Eh maybe that's not enough time to implement a good multiplayer.

I would expect Samus' ship to have little part of this game.

I would expect more arena based level design and more enemies on screen thanks to switching to dual analog. I would be interested to see if the game is inspired by Doom at all in combat since MP4 started full production around the same time Doom released.

I don't know what they'll do with the first person platforming. Prime's platforming is the best first person platforming out there but I'm not sure that mainstream gamers like it at all.

The puzzles will be interesting. Prime kind of started the whole detective vision thing with the Scan visor but now so many games have used it that detective vision feels boring and terrible.

Scan visor should be a lore only thing imo. Not required to activate switches and puzzles and whatnot

Oh yea, this. Constantly switching for every little interaction was tiresome.

Lost Reavers on Wii U was kind of serviceable as far as loot-based games go, if a bit obscure and riddled with f2p mechanics. It was also Namco and not Nintendo, but I assumed you meant Nintendo as in "on a Nintendo system", not "made by Nintendo", to be able to mention this game I remembered while reading your comment.
