So much looking forward to all of your impressions. It'll be like replaying the game again, just in text form this time. Wishing you all a great time with Kiryu in Kamurocho and Onomichi! <3

Good point. I guess he could. Now imagine Kiryu tiger dropping thugs with one hand while holding Haruto in the other, haha. I don't think the CERO would be very appreciative of that picture, though.^^"
Well assorted rating agencies don't seem to have issue with putting babies in perilous situations. I recall ESRB's description for Scribblenauts mentioning tying meat to a baby to lure lions.

and well no one's batting an eye at throwing a baby like a football, so it's all fine. and smoking right next to a baby, now that's downright irresponsible.

Here's to Yakuza 6's release in the West (I tried to take an "artsy" pic but was out of whisky)!

Kinda frustrated that I'm gonna be pretty busy this week, especially starting tomorrow, so I'll probably won't have much time to play my copy until friday, but I'm still happy the game is finally coming out.

Can't wait to share with the rest of the community in the OT.

This is great, haha.

I love how Kiryu and Kiyomi are the only ones who don't smoke in front of Haruto. She even tells others not to do it. Everyone else doesn't give a fuck. But in the end I want to see it as 'characterization' or something, meaning that everyone else has just no idea how to behave around a baby or simply doesn't give a fuck, because they're a tough yakuza-type or something. But yeah, your points are all true. I mostly meant it as a joke anyway. That scene where they throw around Haruto is quite hilarious, especially how happy he is, lol

Just starting 6, haven't even played the demo. The intro is pretty emotional, I love it.

And how the hell is the sound this good? Last time I was impressed with audio in a game was in Battlefront 1 (DICE) but I didn't start playing Y6 thinking it was going to be even better. The surround sound and mixing of voices and soundtrack, with lots of small details, is amazing.

Just imagine now if this still had the original song.

Yeahh, the soundtrack for 6 is great. I've been listening to several tracks over and over lately and I agree that Someya's themes are probably my favourite. He rocks. Simple as that! Hokuto might be my favourite soundtrack in terms of boss fights in the newer games though, so many of those themes are pure hype.

I filled out the survey as well, hopefully we get HGG over here, it has its quirks but the combat is just so much fun for me. Fighting the bosses (via the arena) on the highest difficulty is really good, transforms the game for me as certain bosses get really tough (looking at you Raoh ;) )

Don't know if it's been posted yet, but Sega has put up a Yakuza 6 release survey and they are gauging interest in Hokuto ga Gotoku in the survey!

Just filled it out, also taking the opportunity to thank Sega for everything they did since Yakuza 5 so far. Naturally I told them I would punch walls really fast (read: I would pre-order the game immediately) if they would decide to localize Hokuto ga Gotoku.

Hell yeah, guys! For real, the dev and localization teams deserve all the love they can get. Been nothing but impressed with this series since I marathoned it two years ago. Got some catching up to do now that I'm really looking forward to with 0, Kiwami!, and 6 along with the 3 spin-offs Kenzan!, Dead Souls, and Ishin!. As a HnK and Yakuza fan, HGG is a dream come true and regardless of how flawed I've heard some of it is, it just seems like a really fun time that I can't wait to dig into.

Thank you for posting this in the different threads, I just finished doing the survey and it's great to see they at least keep mentioning Hokuto, I still have hope!

And of course I told them I don't need time between releases and that I'll buy any and ever Yakuza game they bring over. The thirst is real :p

Just doing my duty as a Yakuza fan. :P

Also same here, that answer being "I'll Yakuza all day, every day, and not even care" option was the realest choice in a survey ever. Never selected an option so fast in my life.

EDIT:

Update about the Yakuza 6/Hokuto ga Gotoku survey:

I'm all over the place after finishing 6. I'll think of something to type later...

I will say that this series has been one hell of a journey over the past 12 years and thanks to SEGA for not giving up on localising them.

Ok i just passed the car shooting part in Kiwami last night, now question - if you are playing in legendary do you need to replay the whole prior Triad fight section? If that is a yes then that's fucked up, man wow that's bad.

Putting my 100% completion journey with Hokuto on hold. There is some real bullshit RNG stuff with a few item drops that artificially lengthens the game way to much and I just can't bring myself to do it. Grinding for points was ok, that meant I could buy exactly what I needed but this type of stuff is exactly what I hate about other RPGs. What's actually worse (somehow!) is that there is two layers of RNG working - one for spawning the fights/enemies that drop the items, then the actual drops themselves (which are also randomised). Its evil layered with evil!

Going to take a breather and play GOW when it arrives, I'll hit up the few side stories and other non grindy bits later and keep the game installed should I get some free time to waste.

Otherwise the game is fantastic, but its definitely the most grindy game in the series. Ishin has been dethroned in that respect!

Indeed you do. It's the Trophy I had the hardest time getting. Not because of the fights but because of the car chase is really tough in Legendary.

Wow im playing on Hard and it was really pissing me off last night, i can't imagine now having to go through a whole 20/30 min section every single time if you fail. At least in Y0 it was right after a 3 min cutscene, but this is in another level of bulshit.

Just started Yakuza 6 and went into the convenience store.

Did they take out the ability to look at the magazines on the rack, or is this just missing at the start of the game?

Should I play the original PS2 version of Yakuza 2 or simply jump in on Kiwami 2? I hear it's missing an area.

I own the PS2 version btw.

Somehow I own this entire series, but have never played a damn game. lol

So assuming that my plan is to bum-rush through 3-5 (I have 2 on the PS2, but I may honestly wait until Kiwami 2), how many hours am I looking at?

I have heard that 5 is pretty long...

If the only reason you're considering the original are the missing bits then just wait for K2. The missing area is negligible and the playable stuff there was kind of a pain actually. Not a big loss at all.

I'd say around 120 hours... And yeah, 5 alone took me 60 lol, and that's focusing on the story.

How soon do you think we'll see the next Yakuza game? Is possible that it will appear later this year at TGS? I'm excited to see how this new character will play out in contrast to Kiryu

TGS for sure. If its out this year we'll get the usual vids for gameplay and story. Who knows if they'll announce anything other than Shin RGG though (I still kinda want Kiwami 3 sometime).

So I might be able to *convince* my brother to lend me his ps4 eventually, which I believe is the regular non-pro version. After searching around a bit there seems to be very little impact on playing either of Yakuza 0, Kiwami 1/2 and 6 on a pro-machine. I found some info in the era ps4 pro enhanced-thread, e.g. more stable 60fps on the pro compared with minor dips on non-pro in 0/Kiwami and marginally better AA and DOF in 6. Do you guys agree with these assessments?

Worth pointing out that the dips I encountered on the base Y0 were only during exploration mode, and not during actual combat.

And for Y6, there's also a resolution bump from 900p on the base to 1080p on the Pro. There's also a more stable framerate and less screen tearing so it's definitely the preferable experience.

Ok, thx. Maybe I just try to get Y0+Kiwami atm then.

Well, I've bit the bullet and finally bought Yakuza 0, so it's time to play through this wonderful franchise in 'chronological' order. I'm hoping Kiwami 2 is released by the time I finish 0 and Kiwami. It's a shame there isn't a physical release of 5 in the West.

I've been listening to the stream that the localizers put on earlier today. There's some interesting discussion in there.

It's two hours long, they're giving commentary over the first hour and a half of Yakuza 6, but they also show off the Kiwami 2 localisation at the end.

*Spoilers for the first hour and a half of Yakuza 6*

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/252515892##

In the first few minute they talk about how they approached translating and representing the Hiroshima / Onomichi accent.
@ 24 minutes, talking about localizing the Live Chat substory.
@ 50 minutes, the reason why they changed the objective box to display Kiryu's thoughts.
@ 52 minutes, the decision to correct the orphanage's name.
@ 58 minutes, on the lack of facial emotions during substories.
@ 1:13 minutes, discussion on the relationship between Sega Japan and the English localization team.
@ 1:35 minutes, showcasing the Kiwami 2 demo in English (Chapter 2.)
Apparently they're going back line by line to the original Yakuza 2 localisation and adding more context or flavor.
More content to localize in Kiwami 2 than Yakuza 6.
The Dragon Engine allows for faster localisations.
