I love that too. There's also the cheese and macaroni spin off. Plus a soup version.
Haven't tried macaroni though, it's limited.
It's hard to assess how spicy 2x is. It's like with sounds, 2x louder doesn't really mean much since you can't assign it to a visible unit.
Scoville units usually measure spice. It's double the scoville units of the OG chicken hence the 2x, putting it at somewhere around 8,000 scoville units (a little more powerful than a pure jalapeno pepper)

My all-time favorite. I've grown up eating these. As a kid I used to crush the uncooked noodles in the bag and sprinkle the seasoning and shake it up and then eat the chunks of spice-seasoned uncooked noodle. I would not recommend this.

I wanted to get back in the instant noodle game cause if this thread but instead of going for the spicy stuff and getting the runs soon after I chose to go with a milder option so I chose this without out knowing anything about it. This was very good, the broth is savory and light and the portion is size was just perfect. Noodles were cooked to a nice texture by following the recommended 5 mins of simmer.

I like getting challenged by hot foods, and this is actually a decently hot Korean instant noodle ramen thing.

I also saw this and was tempted....kinda. As if the chicken spewing black flame wasn't enough the fuse bomb made me nope the fuck out. My tummy is gurgling just thinking about what I might have put myself through.

Also my mind is being blown that Indo fucking mee is the most rated noodle in this thread. Used to eat this a lot but I thought I needed to refine my tastes and go for noodles that I could not decipher from the packaging alone. That's what adults do right? Turns out the best noodle was beside me all along. Hope I don't come back here and see people start rating cup noodles. Another childhood mainstay but now I realize that shit is rancid after recently trying it again....gross.

Make sure it visit all the 7-11s. The Premium/Premium Gold label ramen is what you want.

What do you mean "all the 7-11s" , there must be hundreds or thousands of them. I can't visit them all. Surely they carry the same ramen I only need to go to one?

Or do I not understand how 7-11s work in Japan? Lol

Ok these arrived and I had a few packets of each and some time to reflect on it. I'm going to be ranking each on a scale of 1-10

Keep in mind I LOVE instant ramen, even the most commercial stuff Maruchan and Nissin puts out, so my minimum score would be a 5/10 which is the equivalent to them.

As a baseline, consider that before these my top was Shin Ramyun Black as a 7/10.

Sapporo Ichiban Chicken Flavor: BY FAR the best chicken flavor instant noodles I've tried, 8/10.

Shin Ramyun: So much better than the black version of this, like its crazy how much more I liked the flavor of the broth. The noodles are basically the same as Black, which is to say excellent, 8/10.

Indomie mi goreng: Holy shit, like really holy shit, where has this shit been all my life, the biggest surprise out of these 3 new noodles I've tried and by far the best, 9/10.

Yep! We love these. Order it by the case off of amazon. We often mix in shrimp and veggies. It's amazing :)

They don't all have it. Most do, but might have to search for them. Of course Narita/Haneda airport both have it so if you want to go somewhere where they 100% have it that would be it.

How the fuck can a person choose from all of these suggestions!?!?

Honestly, start with the cheapest. Don't listen to anyone who says to cut out entire regions. And most importantly, aim for flavors that seem appealing to you.

If you'd just like a quick suggestion, Indomie Mi Goreng noodles are absolutely fantastic, as are any of the Prima Taste black packages. The Chili Crab one especially.

amazon.ca have this spporo ichiban that i want to try but I don't really know if they are good, they look cheap but there's not a lot of choices for "not too spicy" ramen on amazon, so I wonder if some of you tried it

I like Sapporo Ichiban, but it's nothing amazing. Better than the basic Maruchan or Nissin Top Ramen flavors, in my opinion. It's my go-to brand when I want something that isn't spicy.

I like em. I prefer their original flavour over the beef and chicken. Stay away from their hot and spicy flavour. Pure dirt.

I ate this:

a5a066f1752064e85d03b7e21f825985_500x500.webp

It was pretty good, although I added too much water and diluted the flavor a bit. Anyway, dare I ask... what do they mean by 'seafood?"

So we went to Trader Joes and got some fully cooked pork belly. I'm going to try and add it into some instant tonkotsu ramen this week. Seems like it's worth a shot.

For the past two days, I've been simply stir frying the Nongshim Shin ramen and eating that as a midnight snack. I boil the ramen, drain the water, throw the noodles in a pan with a little oil, and i sprinkle on the seasoning. If you use the entire packet then prepare yourself for something very spicy and salty. Last night, I only used a quarter of the packet and I squirted some Maggi sauce for additional seasoning and umami. When I'm feeling more hungry, I'll scramble an egg and put it in there with some chopped scallions. Instant ramen is so versatile.

So i tried the Shin ramen. Far too spicy for my tastes. Is half the packet enough to cut down on the spice but still have flavour?

Tried another of the Marutai ones, Kagoshima-style instead of Hakata, which just seems to be roast onions in the place of sesame. Very flavourful, creamy broth. Grabbed a pork belly joint from the butcher I'm gonna try and slow roast later this week and add add to these noodles.

The spicy motherload. Haven't had anything spicier yet. It can be a ramen or a curry, up to you to drain the water. Anyone else try this?

@_@

I love samyang 2x, but it doesn't quite hit the levels looking for. If you've also tried that, how does it compare?
I haven't tried Samyang 2x yet but I can, for the most part, handle heat. I would say if I were to compare it to a pepper probably somewhere in the habanero range. Definitely hotter than all store-bought jalapenos I've tried. I def. don't think you need to add any spice to it. I was able to eat about half of it, took a break for 10-15min to drink some water, and went right back at it and finished it off. It's even good cold.

RaOH lives up to its name. I don't think there's a better option available domestically for instant ramen unless you want to lean onto the spicer side, in which case Shin/Black wins there.

This has been my lifelong buddy:

img_4781.jpg

The noodles themselves are honestly just passable, but the flavor is just so built into my personal makeup that it brings me home every time. So much so that when I've seen relatives in India tout the garbage that is the Indian version...

46846967-d_1798-01.jpg

...it makes me very unhappy. Why take something so beautiful and flavorful and destroy it like that?

Another favorite that I indulge in (albeit more rarely) when I'm on a spicy kick is Teumsae, notorious for it insane heat.

Teumsae+Ramyon+-+Package.jpg

Historically, there has been some hilarious marketing around it (Source):

The "Teumsae Dishes" page on their website has priceless poorly translated quotes, including the following ones:

  • While two people eat it, nobody knows even if the other dies.
  • Chewy squid and the smoothe (sic) mussel conveys the freshness of ocean and the spicy taste makes your stuffy heart cooly
  • It is well known among the young people especially, the young ladies, for it gives double pleasure of fantastic taste and exciting feeling of sauce dipping.
  • Have a cool summer with the Ice-ramyun to fill the sultry summer body with cool energy.

Buying Instant Ramen from Amazon works sometimes, but generally I feel it is usually a rip-off. Some questionable sellers and usually the pricing only makes sense if you're buying in bulk. You're better of using a focused online asian grocery like Yamibuy.com (I'd list other options, but the other ones I've used have closed down).

Ok finally tried the 2x Spicy this weekend.

It was definitely at the top of my comfort zone mouth wise. A little outside when it came to the after effects. I'll be sticking with the Curry from now on.

Do asian groceries in the west have the refrigerated type of "instant" ramen, with the noodles you need to boil and liquid sauce packs? They are just as cheap and just as fast to make and taste much better.

I've only eaten either Nissin or Maruchan, the latter is much better. My sister loves it so much, she has like 5 cartons stored in our house in case have some sort of global food shortage.

Shin Ramyun, Shin Ramyun Black, and Indomie Hot and Spicy. Although these have been recommended to oblivion by now, it gives 2 great (and slightly different) brothy noodles and one amazing brothless noodle.
