Can't believe it snowed. I was worried about traffic on the way home this morning. Thankfully none of it stuck!

Brand new to Seattle and living in First Hill! I have a friend who might move here who I would probably move in with - looking into Fremont or Cap Hill. I know a lot of people complain about Cap Hill, but if I could pay less than I pay now, get a decent place, and experience that neighborhood for a while then I might.

Dropped my ballot off at the local library on Sunday. +1 for Manka Dhingra. Have you all seen the ridiculous attack ads on YouTube from the Republicans? It's positioning Seattleites as evil liberal freeloaders and trying to use their supposed support of Dhingra to scare east siders. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TjjZmn-7IAk

I've been getting them on the iOS YouTube app constantly in the last couple of days.

Definitely feels weird not having a vote for the Seattle mayor this time now that I've moved out of the city.

I feel like those attack ads might be somewhat effective in Eastern Washington, but for the 45th district they are kind of laughable.

Really hope Dinghra wins so the Democrats retain state power.

For sure. I've seen those commercials on TV and just scratch my head. There are some differences between Seattle and the Eastside, but not THAT much.

Did Moon blow her entire TV budget during the primary? I saw lots of Moon ads during the primary, but I don't think I've seen a single ad for her in the general. Plenty of Durkin ads though.

Haha, the best part is including the Lenin statue as one of the locations.

Whew, I got plumbing worked on today. That was a quick $450 out the door. Though, of course, the problem is fixed so there you go.

Hah I was walking by Uwajimaya in the international district at 7:58PM and at least 4 people rushed up at literally the last minute to drop of their ballots at the drop box. There were officials standing by ready to close them a couple minutes later.

Hey, SeattleERA. I didn't see the thread. Rainier Beach for me.

The Seattle Freeze is a myth that people use to not cop to their complicity in low energy/importance for friends.

Did ya'll hear that rain last night? I did up all of it with a hand/foot/mouth rashing toddler.
Aren't you just describing what the Seattle freeze is?

I suppose so, but they're saying the ones that scream about it being a thing are the ones that are perpetuating it

As the extrovert, I'm calling BS on that part lol. There are a fair amount of people who try not to perpetuate the Freeze, but it's a two-way street. Can't exactly make someone want to give a crap, unfortunately. Pointing it out isn't perpetuating it. :-p

Of course, but not everyone who points it out is putting in that effort

Fair. A large part of it is that WA is like 48th out of 50th on the extrovert scale; so people here just like being hermits and keeping to themselves. I also wonder whether the nature of transit in the area (IE; once you move into the city, it's very difficult to leave the area, and traffic sucks) also keeps people segregated from each other. But I do agree that a lot of it is based in folks trying to rationalize the fact that they don't make their friends as high of a priority as they do other things. Which is fine, I just wish people would be up front about it.

Yeah, you just described me. I wish i put more effort into making friends out here, my only close friend doesn't love seeing the artsy films over at Siff as much as my friends in Chicago did. I'm outgoing but haven't put much effort into going outside and trying to meet people... i should change that, if anyone is looking to put together a group and see a film in Ballard or Siff and loves shooting the shit over a coffee let me know.

I do feel like I've had to work harder in Seattle to fight against this "seattle freeze"

I would say that meeting people in hawaii was the easiest thing imaginable. Literally go up to someone trying to buy shaved ice or a bar and BOOM instant conversations.

No, more of the idea is, "I want to make friends, but Seattle('s people) won't make friends with me. It's all their fault."

I really threw people for a loop back when they'd say, "We should hang out," and I pull out my calendar and start offering open dates. Life has changed for me a lot since then, having a family and working and parenting from home. On one hand, my time is more takenleaving less to socialize, and the other, I have next to no alone time unlike when I was single. Playing a game or watching a movie is pretty appealing nowadays.

With so many people moving into Seattle for work, it makes sense that work is a priority and takes a lot of their time. But I think the overall culture is changing with all the influx of poeple the "Seattle Freeze" should be renamed to something like the "Puget Sound-and-surrounding-area-full-of-national-and-international-professional-transplants-too-busy-to-make-friends Freeze"

And oh yes, public transit leaves a lot to be desired. Getting through downtown to Ballard is a hassle by car too. Don't even get me started on Magnolia.

Most people understand the family thing, but the Freeze is primarily referenced by the 20-35 year old non-kid crowd. Plus, frankly, I'm old enough that my friends are having kids, and while I don't see them that often, they still find time every couple of months. Matter of priorities.

I have a small group of friends (with kids) that I see almost every week. That frequency shocks some other parents I talk to. We make time for it and it's part of our routine. That plus down time and the occasional wrestling show sets me up fine.

Those younger aged people and I don't cross paths that much anymore. I suppose I am out of touch.

It looked ugly as hell from our office, looking out over the Sound. Not surprised. It took a break long enough for me to get to the bus and from the bus to my apartment, thankfully.

Affected areas in Seatac growing. Ugh. Roomies and I making the most of it by grilling out by lantern light. Made hot buttered rum on an outdoor propane grill.

Listening to old The Shadow broadcasts on a bluetooth speaker by candlelight. Not so bad, really.

I figured out that the Panera on Broadway next to SCC is right outside the outage area, so I got to eat actual food and use their wifi for a bit. Got paranoid that I left a candle burning (I didn't) so I didn't stick around.

Hah. Yeah we have tons of candles going throughout the house so I am constantly prowling around making sure none have become hazards. I am paranoid about fire" though.

An aside: those wind gusts were really shoving me around on the walk home earlier. At least it's not very cold.
