Maybe. Just looking at the screenshots it just does not 'click' for me. Don't get me wrong: I am not the person who needs 4K textures to have fun with a game. But the mix of 'ok' and 'ugly' on the screenshots is not really appealing for me. Maybe it's some work in progress and only half finished...Shenmue 1 has tons of unique texture work, almost everything is unique. It is wonderful.
Also lack of any antialiasing..

D3T. Did the 3D interface on the SEGA Genesis/Megadrive ports on PC/the new collection due to be released, along with a lot of tools support for games like The Witcher 3, general odd-jobs like updating renderers, etc. A solid workhorse choice, especially considering they have to delve into 20 year old code.
As a dreamcast owner who played Shenmue... its not a great game. Technically incredible for that time, but gameplay is simply bad. Story is boring and bland. Characters are forgettable. The recreation of the town is fastantic though.
But im happy that so many people willing to play this game will enjoy it on xbox, ps and pc.
These games are 20 and 18 years old next year, respectively. Short of a total overhaul, the visuals are not going to change drastically.Maybe. Probably not, considering both games are one product on Steam.I wonder if the digital versions will have the option to buy them seperately? I know it's only $30, but I think I want to try the first game before putting down money for the second one.
That's much better and something I can deal with. Maybe missing some "high(er) res" textures in comparison with the the OP, but the the picture is much more pleasant overall. Sometimes less is better. However the game can still look very nice with just a simple res bump:

I'm concerned. I feel like these games might just be one of those overhyped titles that I'm going to hate when I finally play. Not sure if I'm going to dip or not.
I think all they really need are texture filtering options and anti-aliasing to smooth the look over a bit. My shots were only 3x internal resolution in DEMUL, so they're not super-super downsampled. That's much better and something I can deal with.
