This game is just so good. If only put 64 and World ahead of it. The switch is almost making me relive my childhood, N64 2.0

Is there some trick to the jump rope minigame? I get to around 60 and then it feels impossible to keep up.

Playing through the story and visiting all the kingdoms for the first time was amazing, but once I did that I kind of stopped playing as much. Not sure if I'm going to collect all the moons, as I'm only at a little over 300 of them right now and I don't pick it up that often. I love the game but I guess I'm not much of a completionist.

You don't need it to accomplish anything meaningful in the game. Here it is if you don't mind being spoiled:

Ha, I actually figured it out eventually. Remembered how to capture the other variety, and realized I never did this one. Thanks anyway!

All moons, purple coins, costumes, and captures achieved without outside help or using the hint Toads. Good ass game.

I got married the day after this game came out. The coincidence of having the Odyssey story line focused so heavily on a wedding makes this game even more special to me.

Finished the main story. The ending sequence is absolutely amazing. There is also some nice foreshadowing and pacing in the game. The painting warps are fun little previews of future levels, with a huge OMG moment for one of them. And I like how they littered all of the levels with these suspicious metal boxes everywhere, too.

There was a random enemy late game summon that was surprisingly fun and inventive.
Those birds with the sharp beaks in Bower's Castle. I don't know what it is about them, but it is so satisfying, poking holes in those pincushion walls and methodically flinging yourself everywhere. It should be really finicky, but the fact that it auto-points you at the wall, you don't have to fumble with the control stick much.

Finally got my account verified for Rera and wanted my first post to be in this OT because this game fucking rocks. I'm trying to cool off from the excitement of this game but I'm tempted to say this is probably the best 3D Mario game or at least tied for 1st. Had a blast with this game and ate it up in two days, right now I'm slowing down and playing the game seldomly to do the post-ending content.
It will be interesting to see who gets the most votes for GOTY between this and Zelda BOTW.

I keep starting up assassin's creed, doing one missions and firing up mario instead
Same. I'm trying hard to like AC:O, and I do to a certain extent, but I almost always bounce back to Mario. AC is fine but it's more of the same. I still feel like Mario has surprises left in store, which is probably a big part of the appeal right now.

Capture 41 I believe is the
fire piranha plant. To capture it, throw a rock so it will swallow it instead of Cappy then you can capture it.
Same as Capture 20 since it's the
poison piranha plant.

As for the music 47,
throw Cappy to a radio I believe.

Completed the game 100% last week. All moon missions comes out with 836 moons, and topped up the Odyssey's tank to 999 moons.

Got bored and did the Impossible Jump challenge, enter Metro Kingdom without using the spark pylon. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nz69sGUmns

Zan, I've got the completion list in this video, maybe that'll help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rRiJ8vFcumQ. If you need help on how to capture "20" and "41", let me know. Music "47" is the Japanese version of that theme. See if there's a radio around, or if you've explored every nook and cranny of that level.

Max moons GET today. Need some time to mull it over. Game had a ton of good stuff but also moons were coming so fast and frequent that it almost felt manic. Like I was in tunnel vision and only now come up for air. The postgame worlds were actually mostly disappointing for me. Last few hours of playing were just tons of rehashed boss fights and rehashed moonstone pipe challenges.

Once you pass 50 jumps, throwing Cappy mid-jump gives you enough hangtime for the rope to hit the ground twice and it counts as two jumps. Makes the grind to 100 a lot more manageable, though you have to throw in a regular jump every 10 jumps or so to reset the timing.

Well I am pretty much nearing the end of my Mario fun. All I have left is a bunch of really difficult Moons I just don't have the energy to do.

A bunch are some Koopa races, the harder Walking puzzles, the Jump Rope and Volley Ball parts and a bunch of sub-areas with really hard to get Moons. Like most of them in that post-finale level. (There's at least three separate areas with 2 Moons each I can't get any of right now. So difficult.) Plus more. A bunch in one of the higher levels too.

I'm at 805 and will probably grab a few more that I can actually do, when I can find them, before moving on back to Zelda, which I neglected really badly since Mario came along.

This game needs a Galaxy 2 style quick sequel within the next 2-3 years. There's too much here to just throw aside when the next game comes along. The nice thing about Galaxy is it had so many ideas that they had enough to make a totally new second game in a quick amount of time. There's way too much potential here for Odyssey to not get a sequel with more Kingdoms. Or at the very least some DLC. As someone mentioned, there are a lot of missing enemies that didn't make it. So many ideas for Kingdoms.

Plus, we need more world-traveling Peach. She's like the best thing about this game that isn't named Captain Toad.

I need to make a post-game review post. I have a lot to say.

Bah, I thought I was doing a great job not getting spoiled on any later Kingdoms (I'm a good chunk through) and leave it to Twitter browsing being my downfall.

Finished the volleyball challenge. I ended up hating it nearly as much as jump rope. It's less rhythm and more reflexes which I'm not very good at. Now have 5 or less moons left in every world and a lot of those are art clues.

Finally 100%ed it. All Power Moons, purple coins, captures, music, costumes, souvenirs, and side stuff... everything. Even grinding my way back up to 9,999 coins just to fulfill my OCD.

Apart from the (partially self-inflicted) grinding, I never felt like the game asked too much of me, yet still gave me a ton of content with a decent amount of challenge. I'll be hard pressed to say I like it better than 64... but even having to think about that shows how much I love this game. <3

Koopa races are just great. I didn't buy into them initially but after getting accustomed to a kingdom and learning how to move around, come up with shortcuts and develop some skill in manoeuvring Mario around, they test your skills and your understanding of each kingdom.

This game totally grows on me. Halfway through the main game I wasn't sure whether I was forcing myself to enjoy it due to all the hype and my innate love of 3D Mario games, but now I can say for sure that this is an amazing game with some serious content in it.

432 moons and there are areas that I haven't even touched yet. Skimmed through all the kingdoms after Metro and have not even visited
the dark side.

So I have to vent about what is possibly the worst feature in this game... the fucking mini-games. Whoever decided to add Volleyball and Jump Rope need to re-think their design decisions. A near perfect platformer with great pacing comes to a frustrating halt when you have to do these things for Moon(s). Worst of all, it's one of those "ramp up" mechanics where it takes a good 2-3 minutes of mindlessly pressing one button before you get to the difficult part. It's so questionably and obviously bad I would take an entire point off a rating system if I was a reviewer.
Hold on. You'd take off a point from the game because of 2 optional moons in a pool of 800+? As in, ones you can skip completely, thus not affecting your pacing. Thank God you're not a reviewer.

I am super early on (73 moons, second Kingdom). I thought I was pretty close to getting all the moons in the first Kingdom (Cascade) but I was missing a few. I stumbled into my guide and noticed that some of the moons I need aren't doable yet.

There was a moon that mentioned Binoculars behind the Odyssey, another moon where I talk to Peach, and another where I talk to a Cap dressed as a Caveman. Unfortunately, all of these things aren't visible in the Kingdom (Peach, Binoculars, and Cap are all not there). I normally wouldn't look at a guide but I just got curious. Do these moons become available later?

Yes, they do. I'd suggest beating the game first without worrying too much about completing each kingdom 100% for the time being.

After completing this game without rushing it. I still prefer galaxy 1 or galaxy 2. Those games were more magic to me. The music & platforming & art is a big deal to make this decision.
But this is the 4th best 3D mario game out there. (after mario 64). I'm glad it wasn't a sunshine after all.
(I'm really hoping to see galaxy 3 on the switch.)

Happy to make my first ResetEra post in this thread, and happier still to say that I think Odyssey is my favorite Mario game of all time. It's the type of game I've wanted since the N64 era but never knew it. The Galaxies and New Mario and 3D stuff was *fine enough, but it didn't scratch the need to explore while I platform. I'm barely into postgame, with a measly 300-something moons, but hours keep slipping by as I set out to do one thing, get distracted with another, and end up in some totally different kingdom jumping on spinning platforms or racing koopas. All the postgame changes, even the cosmetic ones not related to even getting moons, making revising old areas a pure joy.

It kills me that they're giving DLC to Zelda and Xenoblade and stuff but nothing for Odyssey. No joke, I'll pay $60 bucks in a second if they come out with a Galaxy 2-esque sequel.

As you go through the game get what moons obvious to you and then do some exploring to find some of the more challenging ones. I don't think you should be trying to 100% every kingdom as you go, you can do that in postgame.

I just found out you can change the music by hitting the boom box. Got to hear a song from the ending by doing that.

Can someone give me a hint as to how to get that one moon in Caperton that is really high above one of the hat houses? I can't quite get there with a frog. Do I keep trying that or look in another direction (don't outright spoilt it, just nudge me in the right direction if possible)?

I finished this last night, and briefly started some post-game stuff. I'm just in awe at so many things about this game. It's just a sheer delight to experience.

Last thing I did last night was find the Yoshi Egg on the castle roof. I opened it up with biggest smile on my face. I went to instinctively jump on his back like I have for the past 20 years only to come away disappointed. "Wait...I guess I... *Throws Cappy*... OMG yes this fucking game!"

I had pretty much the same reaction. I kinda figured, even when I went in the painting, Yoshi will be on top of that castle and I'll be able to talk to him. Don't know why, but it didn't occur to me I'd be able to play as him. Time passed, I forgot about it. Then while exploring the castle I realized the fruit looked familiar, and I got this big dumb smile. I did the same thing as you too, tried to ride first.

Think about the frog's moveset.

You can also change the music you hear by picking which track you want by pressing - and then hitting L or R until you get to the page that lets you pick.

As for that moon,
read everything that's on the screen when you capture a frog.

Try waggling your joy con while using a frog.
