I've spent my past two play sessions just hunting in the mountains as Saejima. I'm definitely not gonna make it.

im on the last character in y5, been a real struggle

im not really tired of yakuza, i just hate all the playable characters and starting over. its a slog.

also a playable character i liked in y4 is completely gone and doesn't appear again in the series?? ok.

think i just have the finale left afterwards.

i'm glad y6 is more focused.

Haven't had much free time as of late, so I decided to put Kenzan on the back-burner until I've completed 6. Next week is going to be fun.

Man, after spending a bit of time in the God of War thread I feel really awful for Sega of America right now.

That delay is going to murder this game in the west.

We'll just have to hope Kiwami 2 makes up for it

I forgot that Yakuza 6 is out on Tuesday. It's also my fiancees birthday.

We both love Yakuza and can't wait to see how everything works out.

You can guess how we'll be spending the day together :D

I have some banners, but I could use help applying character graphics to them if anyone is willing or able. I've been really busy since this is my last week at my current job.

I have some experience so I'd love to help, I'm free for the weekend starting tomorrow. If Irishninja wants to do it instead tho that's fine.

It should be noted that Kiwami 2 (28/8) will be released a few days before Dragon Quest XI (4/9), and Spider-Man (7/9).

I really don't think it will have much effect personally but whatever. Kiwami 2 is confirmed so I'm happy regardless.

For anyone who has been waiting for a decent deal on Yakuza 0 in the UK, or knows someone who is, it's currently £19.50 over at Coolshop.

I've been waiting for it to drop below £20 for MONTHS, and of course it does so less than a day after I decided to order it anyway as I can't be bothered waiting any longer.

I'm so looking forward to all of your impressions once the game is finally officially out in the west. Not just story reactions, but also reactions to sidequests, minigames etc. Please enjoy everyone!

I've seen a lot of people new people to the series say they want to play the series chronological order, so that alone could affect sales.

I know some have said they will stick pick up 6 next week to help the series but not everyone can afford to buy two games in the same week (GOW reviews are making it a must buy).

I definitely think that what will affect Y6's sales the most is the number 6 in its title and what it represents, haha. But on the other hand it's a niche title that as such has a dedicated fanbase behind it and will probably still sell relatively well regardless of other big games coming out.

I kinda hope they don't title the Ichiban game Yakuza 7.

Make it clear that people can start fresh with that game.

I am really curious to see how well it does with GoW coming out three days later.

Yeah, they really should come up with a new subtitle or something for Ichiban's game if they can to softly emphasise the new beginning. Also makes me wonder what subtitle they would use for FOTNS if that gets brought across, because I now think just calling it Fist of the North Star is a bit of a bad idea, as searching for a copy of the ASW fighter on the PS2 has been a pain because it turns out there were many FOTNS games released on the PS2!

Speaking of FOTNS, I'm on the final chapter :( On the one hand I'm glad I can focus on GOW next week, but I really don't want to be done with Hokuto yet, I love that combo system so much. Oh well, the post game stuff will keep me busy for a little while at least!

This is true, I loved Zero but had no intention to buy 6 because I thought you had to play all the other games to get something out of it. I bought Kiwami and loved that too and because everyone told me it's ok to play 6 without the other games I decided to preorder. But I imagine a lot of people won't bother due to the 6 in the name.

I 100% Saejima's Hunter and Killer before ever seeing Tsukimino for the first time, wonder how common that is lol. Really thought hunting and trapping was quite fun and relaxing, and the storytelling of the main quest wasn't bad at all.

Well I can confirm I did exactly the same thing myself. I didn't even mean to either, the plan was to do most of it then come back to it later, but I just couldn't stop playing that segment, it was so good (in my opinion). And once you reach the city, a bunch more stuff opens up to do! Its my favourite looking city in the game as well, the ice sculptures to the north of the map, so good.

Right on! I don't know how the majority of fans felt about it, but I too, really loved it. Wasn't my intent to do the whole thing either, I just kinda kept going. I even ended with twice the amount of stuff to sell to the trader as part of that one mission. Finally onto the town itself next time.

Like me then, you probably have a huge bank account with Seijima. Which was super useful to do the hostess stuff etc. once you hit the city!

I'm assuming once Kamurocho finally comes along, gambling will be just as lucrative as it was in the last couple games? With the use of cheat items for roulette, Blackjack, Cho-han, etc., that's some additional easy millions right there. I hope a couple Zero Jewel are in as locker and substory rewards, since getting 3.5 million for doing nothing at all is always nice!

I don't think people are fully appreciating the gravity of the situation.

By September, Western Yakuza fans will be fully caught up with JP releases. I don't think that's ever happened since the time between Y1's english release and Y2's JP release.

I may be wrong but I think that getting caught up with the Japanese releases was necessary in order to prepare the release of Shin Yakuza.

Yeah, gambling as per usual can net you some big bucks :)

Its pretty nuts. Baring the spinoffs of course, but its really incredible that we'll finally be in that position. It might be the case that we get Shin RGG in a timely manor in English. That'd be an impressive twist for Sega. From waiting 3 years for 5 to day 1 for English Ichiban! They still better translate FOTNS though that games combat alone it too good to leave in Japan.

I'd love it if we had a simultaneous English and Japanese release, that'd be damn awesome. Probably not happening, but man, wouldn't that be great.

I wonder when we get Fist of the North Star, since it looks fantastic, and Shadowman's impressions have been really good too.

I don't feel bad for SOA I feel bad for the western fans who want to get future Yakuza games localized. Sega had plenty of chances to get away from God Of War even after the delay. Once the game leaked via the demo, and when the english version started selling overseas they should have immediately released it on the ps store both times and started shipping physical copies.

PSA: Yakuza Dead Souls is currently on sale on the US PSN store for $7.99. In case you feel like shooting zombies with Majima or "get to the top" with him in Karaoke, hehe. (I still think it's a fun yet very janky game).

Speaking of: I wonder how impactful the Yakuza 6 storyline (especially everything around Haruka) will be for newer Yakuza fans who only played 0 and Kiwami 1 so far. I do think that it helps when you played all the titles (be it over the years or just recently, doesn't matter). After all we saw those characters grow up, become older etc. Personally it had a huge impact on me, also knowing that this will be the final chapter in the Kiryu saga. I got so attached to all the characters. Due to characters aging etc the Yakuza series pulled something of, which I haven't seen or experienced in any other video game series so far.

You raise a good point there, I wonder the same thing as well. For me, even though some of the plot points in Yakuza games are absolutely nuts the one thing it does better than any series to me are the characters. From the supporting characters, main playable characters to the motley crew of baddies that appear in each game, no other series actually gets me investigated, not to mentioned gets me to care about the characters. Seeing Kiryu and Haruka evolve along several games has been awesome, and I hope they manage to do something great with Ichiban in Shin RGG as well.

Contender for bet side story in 6. So good.

And while its not directly Yakuza related, yay! Shenmue 1 & 2 HD happening. Now I get Yakuza, Shenmue and Mega Man releases all in a year. Not to mention everything else Sony and Nintendo have on their consoles. Amazing year.

Pretty crazy month for Yakuza related news.

Within a span of 30 days we got the Kiwami 2 rapid localisation announcement, Shenmue 1 & 2 HD announcement and the Yakuza 6 release.

And Hokuto got released in Japan. So yeah, amazing stuff :) And on the wider Sega spectrum I was also super happy about Mania's physical release announcement.

Decided to go back to the demo again just for the hell of it. Got 230,000 yen roughly so a nice amount going into the full game. Also around 300 - 600 in each of the exp things.

Btw the entrance to LIttle Asia that you're blocked from in the demo. It makes things awfully buggy with enemies in that area. They completely forget about you while near it, they can stop fighting you as if you ran away and sometimes they run at you and then suddenly forget you exist.

It's hilarious.

Also I assume you can't find cats at all in the demo? Looked up some locations but couldn't find any. I do have a lot of cat food with me for whenever I do find some.

Side note: Karaoke is bullshit. No misses, mostly greats with some goods and I get 87.xxx - should have been 90 at least :/

(Karaoke is still fun though :D)

Still miss bowling though.

The cats don't unlock until chapter 2 if I remember correctly. So yeah, gotta have to wait for the full version before you can find and feed them (they're all so cute).

Can't wait either. Having already played through the Japanese version I might actually be more hyped to replay the game because there are several fights/set pieces that are truly excellent. Plus its got VF5 FS in it, so much time will be spent there.

Meanwhile, I've just finished off Hokuto Ga Gotoku today. The final chapter was as great as I'd hoped (was worried they'd skip out on a long fight in this chapter, but no... you get one heck of a long fight and cool boss fights as well!). Full thoughts are up in the main thread but suffice to say I really enjoyed the game. Its not close to a 1:1 retelling of the manga but it does feature enough characters and awesome fights between them that I was satisfied with the direction they took the game. Also, it definitely has some of the best combat from any game in the series, its seriously fun to just get into the large fights and play around with all the different moves you unlock as you go. The secret techniques especially look awesome.
