We knew it was coming... Jeremiah gassed and goes insane to become "real Joker"
And now that it's here... it feels so unearned so far
But the way Jerome was talking, he kept hinting they are identical twins in more than one way..... they could do the exact same things and think the same, but different circumstances got in the way

Again, very convoluted way to get Joker who will still be played by same actor

Man I really love this show, it has a Burton/TAS feeling that I love plus it just does it's own thing. I really hope we get a season 5. I hope they let the joker alone for a bit and let Bruce continue his training

I wonder if the arc got cut short.
Because their entire grand plan was kind of disappointing.

Also because Butch/Grundy was hired and then nothing

...eff.
I wanted him to become joker slowly and organically, and not due to chemicals.

low point to end a good episode...

If they do cancel it, the timing ain't too bad because we are already on our way to the real Joker, and Bruce is not far off from Batsville the way things were progressin

You're probably right.

But it's worth pointing out: Gotham's producers have said that this season ends with a very big cliffhanger that will make fans demand another season for closure.

http://comicbook.com/dc/2017/11/22/gotham-season-4-cliffhanger-ending/

During an exclusive interview with ComicBook.com, Gotham co-executive producer Bryan Wynbrandt revealed that a cliffhanger is on the way once again.

"While we're leaving a lot on the table, there's going to be plenty left for us to put on the table after this season," Wynbrandt teased. "I mean, we're driving to a really amazing place where, talk about a cliffhanger! It's going to be insane."

"We're certainly going to leave this season in a place where people are going to want a Season 5."

Nobody noticed the music that the Jerome band was playing when the police arrive was a take on the 60's Batman theme?

Never thought this show would last or even go to a point where we got a protoBatmobile.

Man, I loved this episode. Fully expected, but also a deserved ending for Jerome, imo.

And the Ra's al Ghul "reveal" was also expected, but I wouldn't be suprised if his return + some Bruce shenanigans will be the big reveal that will be a cliffhanger for Season 5.
...and after writing this I watch the preview for 19. Oh well. xD

Heh, that was the 60s theme tune playing at the concert for a few seconds right?

EDIT: Beaten.

Subtle is an interesting choice of word. The set pic of him makes him look like Jack Nicholson's Joker when he kills the guy with the pen. What made Jerome work was how larger than life he was. It'll be interesting to see how Cameron changes his performance.

I knew as soon as the brother showed up wearing the green and purple he would end up the joker.

And can we please go one Oswald scene without him yealling/screaming/schreeching....it's so grating

The more I think about it, the idea of Bruce and The Joker starting out as friends/allies is a very unique twist on the Joker's origin.

While I don't agree with every single thing Gotham has done, I do feel like this show deserves a lot more credit then it gets from the general audience. Putting out a Batman flavored show before the era of Batman and still making it fun, creative and exciting was always going to be a difficult task. I also like some of the comic book liberties taken here as somethings may suit the show a little better then what happens in the comics. I look forward to seeing how this season wraps up and how season 5 is if we are lucky enough to get one.

I really hope this gets renewed. It's the only show I look forward too every week. Gave up on the DC Arrowverse shows.

Funny enough, the second season of TellTale's Batman game "The Enemy Within" very heavily takes on this thing.

It doesn't show Joker's 'origin' per say, he's already mostly in that state by the time you meet him, but the story portrays him (named John Doe) and Wayne as very friendly and trusting of each other. This can naturally be changed via the dialogue options in the game as all Tell Tale games do, but it's entirely possible to play the game with Wayne and Joker remaining mostly friendly through out the game and Joker even betraying Harley in favor of Wayne before the end.

Proto-Joker did everything future Jokers would do and look and sound like, and came up with a tv theme for a character not yet created

You see why it's so hard to give any creedance to Jeremiah for sake of plot twists

Would have preferred they just stuck with Jerome. He was a great joker and now Jeremiah has to earn it all over again. Plus for me personally Jerome was the best type of Joker, so Jeremiah is gonna be different and liked less, or end up the same and be pointless.

I find this great, since it gives Bruce a reason, why he would still try to save Jeremiah from being the Joker later. He felt like the actions of Jerome were his responsibility, since he could had ended it early. So he could seen, Jeremiah going insane, as being his fault. (He was even created through Waynetech like many other villain in Gotham). There could be an ending like in the Killing Joke, where Batman still tries to give Joker a helping hand after all the terrible things he did.

I could see the show makers see Jerome as an dead end character. There isn't any way to grow and you can't really talk to him. The went all in to fast with his character. Jeremiah becoming the Joker allows for taking more small steps forward and giving him a better connection with Bruce as Proto-Batman and making a villain, who Gordan can't handle.
Yes it's a fix for going to far ahead with Jerome, but it sill can work out fine.

From the sounds of it Gotham is gonna get one more season if that. We didn't need to slow down.

Gotham producer Danny Cannon talks about what a potential Season 5 will be like.

http://comicbook.com/dc/2018/04/17/gotham-season-5-reboot-story-no-mans-land/

Now, Gotham has been rumored to be "on the bubble" of being renewed after a lackluster ratings performance this year, but that's not what this is about. The Season 4 finale, which follows the ever-popular Batman: No Man's Land story from the comics, will alter the entire reality of the series. Everything we know about Gotham will change, and an entirely different Batman prequel series will rise up in its place.

"We're building to something much bigger," Cannon explained. "It's the biggest cliffhanger we've done. I mean, there has to be Season 5. Everything points to that because it's set up in that way."

"Like I said, the catastrophic event, the cataclysmic event that happens in the last three episodes not only will change Gotham," Cannon continued, "it not only combines so many characters that you don't think will cooperate with each other, but it changes the face of Gotham forever, so that season five, it's almost a reboot and a different show."

The word "reboot" can be scary for fans of a show, because it typically means that the series is restarting from the ground up. While that's sort of the intention here with Gotham, Cannon assured us that it's more about changing the landscape of the show with the same characters. He called it "a reboot of stories," as opposed to a complete overhaul.

"The [term] 'reboot' means, just when you thought you knew people, something else will happen, and just when you thought your Season 5 would be like Season 4, Season 5 is completely different. New characters and old characters that have changed. It's a complete [departure], and the city has changed too, new characters on a new landscape."

I don't know. I really like the show & the characters how they are. A revamp of everything or too many drastic change might cause the show to lose it's wacky charm that it has going on.

I'll still give it a watch & see how it goes if it does get renewed.
