The future of gaming.

Like...if you get such an accolade, you may as well be the best game of the generation.

This is literally a God-level expectation Huber has bodyslammed into this game.

What if he's right?

Reviews! Here's Blood's review of Minit:

I'm deep in my first playthrough of P5 right now, so a short game like this feels like a good palate cleanser for when I need a break. I really like the gimmick, also.

Not gonna watch the God of War review until I've finished it but great job on this review, Bloodworth . I ended up buying Minit thanks to your Checkin' Out video and finished it in one night. It's a really cool game.

It's getting hard to resist the urge to watch the review, but I'll save it for after I've finished the game. I want to go into the game 100% fresh, especially since it's going to be my first God of War game. Really hyped. Congrats to Sony Santa Monica.

Are you sure about that? I know you can set your Patreon account to charge patrons the moment they pledge but EZA doesn't do that, they only charge at the start of the month. So as far as I'm aware, if you pledge and unpledge within the same month, you aren't charged anything.
I may be wrong. I've supported a few patreons on and off occasionally and all of them changed to charging the moment you subbed so I figured it was a site wide change. Wouldn't know about how a new patreon sub on EZA still works as I've been subbed since day 1 without lapse. But yeah, if that is the case and there is no charge up front, then I'm not as positive on that "$1 and cancel" bit.

I watched the review and there wasn't anything particularily tear worthy.
The full game? Sure, but the review really didn' lol

I'm wondering why the God of War (writing GoW feels weird indeed) review is not on Opencritic yet? Weren't the Allies their most trusted reviewers ;)
Also that Minit review really sold me on the game, should hold my interested until God of War comes out.

I'm looking for some suggestions of good Fiasconauts episodes to check out. I've only watched Heist.

Yeaah, Jones didn't say you will cry after the review. He teared up while going through the material while editing the video. Obviously he wouldn't include something probably very spoilery in the review footage.

I skipped the review to see the score

Not exactly media blackout, but I'm not exposing myself to any God of War details

I give up on Kyle re: Patreon. His troll game is too strong. GG Bosman lol

Great to see Shu bigging up the GoW review too. As per usual, I won't be watching it until after I've finished the game.

I knew God of War would be well received when Ian drastically changed his interest in the game.

From: "I've never played a single one of those and i wanna play that, that was emotional."

To: "Is it weird that I just don't care about this game?"

It was Horizon all over again lol

Despite vowing to not buy a new game until I've got through most of my backlog on the PS4, Xbox and Switch I've completely buckled and preordered God of War.

Fuck you, Huber!

I think that's reversed lol

Man, I want to play God of War.... but I really shouldn't spend anything. And I have a backlog already....

Kyle next week: "Patrons get the podcast two days early, but if you aren't a patron, you can DM me on Twitter and I'll send you the link".

I don't think Kyle's totally wrong in wanting to allow non-Patrons to get a sample of what they're missing somehow, but I don't think the podcast is the best way to do that since it is does go free after two days. Which brings me to the other issue with the Patreon: not enough true exclusives. There really isn't enough content-based incentive to be a Patron. Cup of Jones is fun, but hardly essential. I hope they plan to fix that.

I understand the other allies not agreeing with Kyle (and if the majority of them don't he probably shouldn't encourage the practice) but I actually do think he has a good point buried deep down in there. He even brought it up on the last podcast, he thinks of it like HBO Go where they encourage sharing because they think that converts more people into fans who may eventually decide to become patrons. I also agree with his view of Patreon; I'm not purchasing the right to get a few podcasts early, vote on group streams, or watch Cup of Jones, those are just nice bonuses. I'd give the allies $5 a month even if there were no rewards at all because I want them to exist and keep making content to get me through the work day. Certainly doesn't apply to everyone but I imagine a good bulk of patrons feel the same way.

Time for Hottakes Trap to go weekly and exclusive.

Patreon and eza are not hbo or Netflix. Sharing accounts is built into their business models.

The podcast is already free for anyone to watch. Patreon let's you see it early. If the link is out, why would anyone ever pay $5? Yes maybe there are people like you can me who just want them to exist and donate without caring about the patreon reward but that set of people is limited.

And those people are already donating to the patreon. Newer people need more of an incentive.

830+ subs today and counting just from the gow review.

I said GOD DAMN!

You get a review out on embargo, you reap the benefit for days. Its gonna be triple digits for a couple days.

Kyle's bit at the end of the podcast isn't going to convince anyone one way or another. It's just a bit. Move on.

Last week was a bit. I think he was being genuine this week. I think he really thinks people sharing early access with a friend would be beneficial. But I guess we won't ever know for sure, unless he answers someone asking about it on Reddit or something.

I'm guessing it's more Shu and Metacritic Tweeting out the review because even embargo reviews don't spike it that much.

Huber predicting that Dragon Quest sells more than Spyro is breaking my heart. He is too innocent and pure to this world, DQ is going to bomb like no tomorrow. Lock it in.

Spyro will be a multi million seller easily in the west. DQ will struggle to get to 1 million (to be fair it's important to remember that Japan is what carries the franchise but we are talking NPDs here.)

Woah! And i'm now seeing that number is now at 1,066 new subs on youtube just for today (that number will surely be wayyy up for the rest of the day/week and their daily average is 159). God of War review has amazingly already gotten 95k reviews in just over 12 hours. At that number, it makes it their 6th most watched review ever (this is their 125th review).

Breath of the Wild - 166K views
Ni No Kuni II (wow!) - 147k views
Horizon: Zero Dawn - 135k views
Final Fantasy XV - 109k views
Nioh - 101k views
God of War - 95k views...and that number is going to balloon in the next week or so until after God of War is released.
