I'm a bit late but one of the things I hated about quest rogue was how long the opponents turns were. Sitting around watching them bounce their cards back and forth while you could do literally nothing was infuriating. Quest rogue was/is almost everything wrong with Hearthstone.

I feel the same way about watching mage or priest turns, sadly.

Also, neutral cards done, on to the class cards on the stream.

Quest rogue isn't all bad. It is a very different method to win the game and I think people exaggerate when they say you can do nothing. I beat plenty of high roll quest rogues and even with decks not favored at all like priest and miracle rogue.

I'm hoping for the return of quest rogue!

Echo cards are an interesting way to activate it, and the one you'd play has taunt. You have guaranteed quest completion turn 7 with 1 echo minion and 1 shadowstep.

At least games were fast. I still think the worst era in hearthstone was machine gun priest. Most popular deck with few weaknesses. Every game seemingly drawn out...them always having the 1 of they needed.

Although the funny thing is the meta actually got less diverse after the nerfs. I'm guessing this was because you could basically put patches and creeper in any faster deck and make it viable.

I used to have a reasonable taunt warrior winrate against quest rogue. With some hands they would just gas themselves, they wouldn't find the value generating minions to really get you and would be left bouncing other stuff.

I vastly prefer the meta before the nerfs, even with Creeper being stupid and OP.

I remember one run to legend where every priest I ran into drew kazakus, raza, and often anduin (usually 2 of the 3) on curve and sometimes both. The guy who runs vs stats actually told me my deck was favored but I kept getting high rolled I guess. That run I finally hit legend when I got lucky, but not queueing into any priests lol. This was very early on after the nerfs that made tempo rogue legit.

Later I found the deck really was pretty good against priest. Just had to get a little less kazakus/raza/anduin on curve.

I just had the most unfair Arena game where I was lucky enough to draft a Kazakus deck, but lucked into an Inkmaster Solia from a Kabal Courier. Was able to do a really strong play the 10 Mana potion.

I was afraid to even emote anything as I did not want to annoy the guy I was playing. I would be mad if I was on the other end of that.

I think I have a great deck. Am 7-2 right. Two loses to aggro drafts. Pity I am kinda rushing to get this arena done before a forced retire later today,

Better than this goddamn stall-lock.

I mean, they're both pretty degenerate. That's what makes (made) it tier one. I think tier two decks are "fair". Tier one is just busted / broken.
It's hard to say which one I like less. Raza Priest is just a slow death and feels hopeless when you have no board and are just getting pinged. Lock with a Lackey on 5/6 into Void Lords / Doomguards / Cubes, etc. feels kind of the same way. lol

Thanks to the crazy people who hung out for 3+ hours rating all the cards and typing up their thoughts. It's almost less to accurately predict how good a card will be, and more an exercise in briefly discussing each card and seeing if there are synergies I'm missing, while looking at the entire expansion in one go.

Some overall gut feelings:
  • I think I've done this stream 3 times now, and this felt like the hardest expansion to rate. There are several cards that seem to have clearly strong effects, but lack the perfect meta/deck/situation. For other(s), there are so many possibilities that my mind boggles even attempting to imagine how well or poorly something will work -- between a bunch of cards rotating, a bunch of potential odd/even deck restrictions, and a bunch of mechanic and clan synergies.
  • This expansion feels weaker than we are used to. I fear for really long control games and mind-numbing ladder climbing, but ultimately the power level is probably a good thing since the meta is getting reset with the rotation, and these cards will be around forever if not nerfed.
  • There are a ton of effects where you would want silence, and zero new silence cards.
  • The art in general is extremely solid. There are maybe 5 or so cards that jump out as having clashing art, probably because of how good the rest is.

I'll take cubelock over Razakus priest ANY day. Razakus was a fucking miserable experience. Probably the worst hearthstone meta ever for me.

Also, I loved farming quest rogues. Fastest I had ever gotten to rank 3.

one win away from rank 5, run into a miracle rogue with the legend back and proceed to lose four games in a row.

Quest Rogue was already in the best spot it's been since the nerf and had 0 ladder presence. Like before you just can't win vs aggro and paladin and secret mage are super popular.

It was fun to beat up on priests and warlocks though which made it a decent tournament deck. Zola and Sonya were incredible additions for the deck and wax elemental a decent defensive tool in addition to glacial shard.

I am scared about Vex Crow and the possible hyper aggressive Mage that will end games in 5 Turns

There is a lot of good synergy to be had chipping away at health with small spells and flooding the board - the coin makes it even worse.

The more I think about it, the more I feel Vex Crow will be the card everyone is complaining about 10 hours from now. :(

since controi is fucked once again by cubelocks shenanigans and whatnot,i'll think i'll try an elemental mage deck or something fun without touching the ladder once again

You still can preorder I think...

EU Link: https://eu.shop.battle.net/en-gb/product/hearthstone-the-witchwood

(I already did it a few days ago, so can't confirm this 100% works, but the page is active0)

Can confirm it still works.

It's amazing how weak I am when it comes to new Hearthstone sets. Even barely following all the reveals I still buy the pre order package. I'm now playing this for nearly 4 years and this past expansion has caused the lowest interest level for me so far. Hopefully this will be a fun expansion to get my interest up again.

If he lives one turn he auto infests the board. Sure, there is an "if," but all cards in this game have an if.

If he is played on curve you maybe have Coin + Any 1 Mana Spell (Mirror Image protects Crow)

Follow up turn... Kirin Tor Mage + Secrets (or even more small spells)

Counterspell stops removal. Mana Bind is more free crap.

Vex crow is very weak to board clears like hellfire. Control Warlocks will eat it for breakfast.

I think I will play old school control warlock tonight to get an easy rank 5.

if vex crow was druid, rogue or neutral i would join you on the hype train but mage has no way to leverage the extra bodies or refill the board other than another vex crow turn. You'd have to run stuff like fungalmancer and argus i think.

vex coin mirror image is like a call to arms that you can only do 50% of the time and dies to all the same things call does, requires more cards and doesn't thin your deck.

3 health makes it a really big if. Dies to most weapons and a bunch of spell removal. You'd have to be lucky and hold the coin and a 1 mana spell, which you're only running for crow synergy anyway, and would probably be better served for a different card.

I don't think it's terrible, and maybe slots in where medivh's valet was in something resembling the current Aluneth Mage build, but I don't think it creates a big impact.

We'll find out soon though.

I just preordered, I've not even been playing that much recently (not prepurchased since probably old gods I think).

This expansion looks fun though.

KuroNeeko Thanks for the write-up. Sounds a bit like an Infinite Combo Arcane deck in Magic.

So, open all packs in one go, or try and trick the RNG Gods buy staggering them over a few days?
