Nah didficulty is fine
Bosses could drop health pick ups from time to time to ease the fight a bit but in general bosses are abot leanring patterns
Also bestest boss theme

It is absolutely not hard at all, other than the fact that I would forget to use certain mechanics on bosses or more difficult enemies. If you don't have a terrible memory like me, the game is a decent challenge, and was surprisingly long.

I really am terrible at most games though. To give you an example; Sonic the Hedgehog was the first game I bought with my own money. Without cheating, I have never been able to complete it with 7 chaos emeralds. I've played all 2d Sonic games. ANd it's likewise with Sonic Mania. I am currently stuck at having 4 chaos emeralds. I am just not very good at videogames, despite loving them. So sometimes I skip games that might be too difficult.

But, maybe I will give Iconoclast a try anyway :)

Good game with a story I could care less about. The gameplay, however, is rock-solid stuff.

Definitely recommend it

Am I reading that tweet in the op correctly that all platforms will be getting the new difficulty and mode?

If so, excellent news.

Uh off topic but you don't HAVE to 100% all games :P I hardly ever go after Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1 and 2 since those Special stages aren't necessarily part of the main game and can be an unneeded hassle for me. Heck I didn't do any extra stages in Mario World for the SNES, nor NSMB2 and just went about the main path as much as possible.

I never went for 100% in Iconoclasts, but the main game was fun is straight forward. You can backtrack or sidestrack to get upgrade items but they aren't really needed that much to complete the game.

Just focus on the main path and rate your skills based on that. Iconoclasts is very doable you just need to focus and not rush too much.

Thank you, I appreciate your words of encouragement. It's a bit disheartening to feel that my skills just aren't enough for many games. Oh well, I did finish Demon's Souls somehow. I really like Metroidvanias though, even if I'm not sure how many of those I've been able to finish. I promise you I'll try not to be too hung up on trying to do the harder parts of Iconoclasts though :)

Just to add, if you want to get the upgrade stuff in Iconoclasts, sure go for it, but if you find any to be too much of a hassle or hard, just don't frustrate yourself and get back to the main game.

OH
Good news.
On one hand, I haven't played it yet. On the other, I already bought it on PSN with plans of playing on Vita.

Have it on PS4, lovely art but I felt that the game was quite hit and miss with its level design. It's sometimes hard to know where to go, and the game doesn't offer much help to avoid the player traveling in circles.

I'm surprised there were complaints about difficulty. If anything I thought that the difficulty was unbalanced, rather than too hard. Additionally, many of the most difficult segments of the game were the result of usability issues, for me. For instance I did not know how to damage the plane for a long time, only after a while figuring out I could deflect the bullets. It's not uncommon that players mistake mechanics they don't understand, with difficulty.

My worry would be that, as much of the game is already quite easy, offering an 'easy mode' will only make those segments tedious if they fail to offer any challenge at all. What I feel the game needs is more attention to the specific areas where players are struggling, and then offering a rebalance / redesign with the intent to alleviate the difficulty and usability of those particular instances. A directors edit, rather than a new, easy mode difficulty option. If anything, offering sweeping changes in the form of an 'easy mode' really misunderstands many of the games existing issues.

This article from Rock Paper Shotgun goes into detail on some of the games usability issues, discussing how bosses poorly communicate what the player needs to do, and other mechanics like throwing blocks feels awkward and inaccurate:

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/01/25/iconoclasts-second-opinion/

Either way, I would recommend the game to fans of pixelart platformers. I think it's worth it for the overall aesthetic, and enjoyable, core gameplay mechanics, but it's not without it's flaws, and I don't think an easy mode is going to offer much to alleviate those issues.

What part? Just curious.

EDIT: oops double post!

Being forced to leave Royal to die. It felt completely out of character for Robin and especially brutal considering he had just given an awkward speech about how he thought Robin was amazing and was basically in love with her. Not to mention that Royal was basically just a big child in a lot of ways. The fact that you couldn't use your swapping gun to swap with him just to force you into that decision also made no sense. You just drop him there, no goodbye, no struggle, no mention, no nothing.

Any chance they'll add those features to the other versions?

I dislike it when indie developers treat different platforms to different versions of the game.
You could always try and ask konjak but I don't see why he wouldn't. As BlueOdin said, that second sentence reads exactly as a confirmation of that to me.

Meanwhile, nice for Iconoclasts to get a Switch release. More people to try it out and give a listen to that great OST.

I will most likely pick this up on Switch. Perfect type of game for it. Love the pixel art in this one. Super curious as to how this has sold. Do we have any numbers for total sales across all platforms?

Oh jeez, yea I probably should've just assumed you were talking about that part. I appreciate the emotions it was trying to convey through the gameplay mechanics but it did rub me the wrong way as well a bit.

Still though I do appreciate how a big moment like that happened in-game real-time as opposed to a cutscene.

Was waiting for the announcement. It's going to obliterate whatever sales it had on PS4 and Vita.

Completely agree, that part really soured my experience. I replayed the whole thing a couple times too to see if there was something I could do to get a different result. It truly didn't sit well with me.
That part also had the best song of the OST (imo) going.

Nice. I missed this at launch as I think I picked up Celeste instead (Switch availability etc). All over it on Switch though.

Release is on 2nd August worldwide!
Wow, that's rather soonish. Don't think I'll finish it on Vita until then. Hmm, now I got to decide on stopping now and double dipping due to wanting all of those Indies on one device or just finishing it on Vita.

With Dead Cells also releasing so soon I'll probably do the latter.

Please don't tell me my CE will have this ugly icon when I plug the cartridge in?
Nah, was only temporary.

This game is freaking amazing. It also played perfect on the PS4 & Vita so for home/portable users everyone should be pleased
