Thanks a ton for your detailed help as usual, shadowman16! That's very thorough and useful. I didn't enjoy the arena grind of Y3, so if it's like that multiplied by four, that will be somewhat annoying. The rest doesn't sound as bad as completing all of 3's minigames, and I've heard the requirements are more lax this time around.

-What do you mean? From his perspective Mizuki was dead?
-From my understanding, the doctor owed the Tojo or Nishiki Family (not that he knows) 30Mil, so his men collected 30Mil from the doctor, which causes the doctor to skip town. Nishiki is angry he didn't know the doctor owed him the money.
- Kiryu by that point had talked to the tattoo artist Utonobori because in the picture he recognized the 歌 underneath the flower. Utonobori said the tattoo looked a lot like his but he didn't do this particular one. In my head I guess that casts enough doubt on the situation to not tell a kid their parent definitely died, I dunno.
- that is a lot more simpler than I was making it out to be, thanks.

I didn't really find 3's arena to be a grind to be honest, really loved it. 5's is definitely a grind though with the way they designed it. 0's was really grindy as well if you wanted to see the final 3 bosses (completely optional) as you had to play tons of matches to rank up high enough. Thankfully they got the message and relaxed the requirements from then on!

And yeah, mini game completion requirements as a whole feel more lax compared to 3 which was way harder for me (still not completely managed that!).

Hm I put a preorder on it at a local store a few days ago though? Digital for me is 490 SEK and After hour 950 SEK, so yeah close to double price.

Ah, so it was a location sort of thing. In that case, it depends on how much the contents appeal to you! The glasses look pretty nice, and I can personally say the artbook has some good stuff in it, since I got an early copy at the art event. But whether that's worth that much additional cash is a call you'll have to make.

Which game will you guys play first? Y6 or GoW?

Don't plan on picking up GoW for quite a while (waiting til it's cheaper) - mainly since I haven't played the previous ones and while I like what I've seen from the trailers/gameplay demos/etc, I have limited money set aside for games and thus have to be picky at what games I get full price.

Kiwami so far has been great, i really been enjoying remembering the small story details that i had forgotten over the years. Also im liking this new cutscenes and added references to Y0.

GoW, i just started Kiwami this weekend so im definitely gonna need a palate cleanser before diving in another Yakuza game.

GOW for me as well. Already finished the Japanese release of 6 and while I'm getting the game at launch, I won't be playing it right away. That's more down to Hokuto though, while I'm close to finishing the game's story, I've still got a ways to go before I hit that 100%! (though I did manage to wipe 20 mil from my Cabaret debt over the last day or so, so it shouldn't be quite as long as I first thought).

Yeah, I really loved how Kiwami was done. The original game (in terms of story and characters) is still a favourite of mine and this remake basically just smooths over the cracks that the game got through age.

YOU GUYS.

This probably isn't relevant to everyone here but Sega is currently asking which series fans would like Persona 3 and 5 Dancing to have a collaboration with, and the choices are Yakuza, Virtua Fighter and Sonic respectively.

Vote 1!!!

So in Ishin are there any quick methods of getting through Another Life? I've been pedaling foods, but at the rate I'm going I don't know how it's possible to pay off Haruka's debt.

Refresh my memory - is it just required that you get a set amount of money by any means to pay off Haruks's debt? As I ended up doing loads of the Battle Dungeon for other trophies/completion/Amon and ended up with a huge surplus of cash so easily going down that route, I don't ever recall having to grind for money, I just cleared dungeon missions and periodically paid off more of Haruka's debt when I remembered. But it has been a couple of years since I played it and that game did require so much grinding for other parts of the 100% that it may have just slipped my mind! Look on the bright side, I can think of one Yakuza game that definitely has a way more grindier debt you need to clear!

From what I understand, you have to wait for a letter after you collect a certain amount via doing the Another Life activities, so you can't pay straight from your pocket. If you could, then I don't think it would be that bad, but the stuff I've been pedaling hasn't even hit the 5 Ryo quota yet, and according to the KHH guide, the next increments to pay off her debt are 10, 20, 30, and 40 Ryo respectively. :/

Hmm... ok. I'd obviously forgotten about that completely. In that case, completely guessing here but I'd assume I just horded as much as I could items wise, along with trying to cook as many different, higher rank foods as possible and then sold it via peddling. But its been so long that I don't remember how I did it at all :( I'll have to dig round some of the Japanese wiki's to see if I can find out the best way.

I'm guessing that investing all my dharma points into growing crops faster is the only way this can get done, but even then it sure seems like it would take a while though. I was hoping there was a special food that you could make which raked in a lot of ryo, but I suppose Ishin is called the grindiest game in the series for a reason, lol.

Actually people are now calling Hokuto the grindiest of the Yakuza's. I'm still yet to be convinced seeing as I'm getting through some of the more grindy bits surprisingly quick but it certainly has potential to be really grindy. If you find Haruka's stuff bad watch out for the following:

Battle Dungeons (silly difficulty spikes)
Grinding for materials (tied to difficult Battle Dungeon Missions) - this is also tied to making all weapons/gear which was a pain in the backside!
Friendship quests that are soul sucking and go on forever (so glad Yakuza 0 fixed these)
TWO completion lists! (the one which involves talking to pets/making meals millions of times could be used as a form of torture!)
And probably other stuff I'm forgetting... I do remember the late missions on the hostess shoot em up mini game and fan dancing were incredibly tough to clear with the required grades not to mention the grind to power up one particular weapon when you get it (which takes so darn long on its own! And this is after you've done all the grinding!)

For the late game battle dungeons, best way I managed them was dropping the difficulty to easy (which believe it or not still doesn't make them easy!) and using the best gun in the game to blast your way through them. Not fun for sure, but so much easier than playing the levels proper as you tend to die in a couple of hits and deal next to no damage.

This stuff is basically if your aiming to 100% the game. If your not then you only need to worry about clearing all the battle dungeons and the friendship requests should you be planning to fight Amon. The rest is just for crazy completionists like me!

So far I've been doing all the substories with the intent of facing Amon, but I haven't tried the battle dungeon stuff yet. You sure make it seem scary though! I suppose I'll have to invest in making an uber gun at some point then.

As for 100% completion, yeah I don't think I'm going to bother, because I've already lost count with how many friendships I was making, so I couldn't imagine finishing them along with doing everything else required, lol.

Don't worry, the gun makes battle dungeons way easier. Bosses can still be a bit dicey, but you should be fine as long as your careful.

The friendship quests, yeah they are super drawn out. Thankfully the side stories attached to them all is cleared as soon as you start the stories, not finish them so I don't think they are required for Amon, just 100% so you should be able to ignore them.

Yakuza 0

Is there any way to predict what comes next in the rock paper scissors fight in girl fight club? Is there an item to help or something? I can't mash buttons so I always lose if choices are the same. Trying to win against cpu with counter choices feels often impossible.

Probably my most annoying yakuza mini game ever.

No, there's no item. As far as I know it's simply luck based (the evolution of said minigame in Kiwami works way better IMO). I remember trying to win 10 times. It took me a while too.

The only thing i ever liked out of a CE was the steelbook's, but after i found they dark secret i just can't continue to collect them.

Too bad because that Kiwami 2 steelbook is real nice.

Keep debating over that myself, do I want to keep my After Hours pre-order or get the next best thing? They've really been killing it with their steelbooks.

The manager at my local Gamestop said they had nearly double digit PO open for the AH edition including his and mine, which I found strange. Guess there's a few resellers in the area.

Or maybe they're like me and don't trust Amazon not to break their shit in transit.

I keep all my shit in case protectors, I wonder if that slows down the rust at all.

Yeah i bought some plastic case protectors after that too, but i don't know either if they will do anything. Seems to also depend on the steelbook quality, i have some like new while others were rusting.

Still got so pissed that i just stopped collecting them.

Yeah, its without a shadow of a doubt the worst mini game to ever be put into a Yakuza game. But there is a method to its madness, its just buried under a load of rubbish.

First off, unfortunately there is still a certain degree of luck to it. I don't think its possible to win 100% of the time.

Secondly, when choosing a girl to bet on, pay attention to the little bits of text that scroll on the menu screen. It'll usually say stuff like "X didn't get any sleep", "her favourite blue pen broke", "had a good day" etc. This is usually a good indicator of which girl to pick. So choose the one that sounds the most positive, but also keep in mind the girls your going up against in your bracket (as going up against a girl who also has good morale can be problematic). I've no idea how much this really helps though...

Otherwise the blonde with glasses (Jennifer is it?) is a good all round solid bet. Her stats and special are good.

Now for the super hard part. The girls actually go have patterns, but you have to look really hard to see them. I don't remember what they were now for the life of me but its usually either - picking their strongest attack, trying to counter pick your last attack, trying to counter pick your strongest attack etc. stuff like that. Its really hard to pick up while playing, the only way I figured it out at the time was playing it for a couple of hours continuous so that I started seeing the patterns. Or I went completely mental and started imagining it.

Also, even if you do everything right, you can still be messed up with that stupid counter finisher that hits you after you win. That's just flat out stupid.

Man, after spending a bit of time in the God of War thread I feel really awful for Sega of America right now.

That delay is going to murder this game in the west.

I mean, anyone with a calendar and brain could have told Sega how silly that date was. A week or two before GOW? That'd be fine. But 3 days before? That's a patented Sega decision right there. At least they are launching Kiwami 2 a week before Spidey (and at least they've already confirmed we are getting Kiwami 2 at all!)
Still, I'll be getting a copy of 6 to support the series, but it'll take me a while to get round to playing it especially with GOW sounding like it'll be fairly long (especially for an action game). I should have the story of Hokuto completed very soon (last two chapters left) and then all that is left is the optional stuff for 100% completion, which I can't wait for as it sounds like (spoiler for hidden/post game content)
there is at least two more awesome hidden/optional boss battles to do on top of Komaki's fight
.

Sega posted some live-action promo videos for Yakuza 6.

This one is my favourite

I posted a thread as I think this is news worthy.

Yeah, if I had been collecting steel-boxes, it would be pretty frustrating to find them rusting. I only have a few, but hopefully those case protectors make some form of difference.

Those vids are great. Especially as they do actually reference past side stories in Yakuza games. Anyone know which games they are from?
I think its:
Another Haruka - Yakuza 5 (100% certain on that one)
Bouncer & Prodigal Son - fairly certain both are Kiwami. And yeah, Prodigal Son is the best one, its a great story. Haruka's is good as well since its very similar to his first meeting with Haruka in Yakuza 1.

I preordered Yakuza 6 today because I felt bad for Sega. Instant backlog entry for me, still going through 0 and Kiwami is on deck after that and probably some other games inbetween to avoid burnout.

Smart move, as much as I love the series (and could play several back to back) its always better to take a break after each entry to play some other stuff. Thankfully I've got no shortage of other great games to get to this year!

Thanks, I'll try to keep in mind what they're saying. That should help. I also tried for hours and when I finally thought I see a pattern, the girl played completely different and started ideally counter picking my every choice like an asshole.

Awful, awful minigame.
