400 candy and a shiny Magikarp caught, i'm set for that evolve Magikarp mission. Now, i just need 4 ghost Pokemon to finish the current mission set i'm on.
Nice. I'm about to do all the Onix and Rhydon raids I see. Also really tempted to get that big box with all the raid passes. I pretty much just use my free passes and don't buy extra, but this would allow me to grind some that I want.....
Well that was a thing. Walked home, and got 300 Magikarp candy and evolved my shiny Magikarp. Got that quest out of the way.
Moltres again? Bah. One of the only Legendaries I already had. Really need Zapdos!
Event is kinda fun. Does feel like the first month. Nice seeing things like Diglett and Doduo which are super rare here.
Caught my ditto but now stuck catching ghosts, especially as I'm mostly reduced to Ghastlys now.

Moltres is fine again, Pinape roll in that candy. He's one of the best fire attackers you can get right now.

Solrock (Why is this so hard to find?)
WaiLord (Have the candy, but afraid to evolve now that he might be a quest objective later on)

Well, probably for the more casual people, to give them more time to complete, esp if they don't do it once per day. This is why I wanted it to be random. I'm guessing likely tied to the month or so.
Also, caught this lv 33 Golem by my work during lunch. 80% with 15 Atk & HP. So it's really pretty good. Even more so for my Wife's act as she has like 1 Golem.

Don't have Mew; was going to finish today but ended up sick in bed wasting this event away
Have Solrock too, but missing all the rest. Also no Metagross yet; tempted to switch buddy to Beldum to try and fix that.
I'm with you 100%. I dropped off last summer and came back now with the research.
I was shocked the raid system is still garbage.
Im also surprised at the Kanto event. You put out a big new feature to bring people back... and you bury all the new Pokemon?

It's not a bad event use it while you can to stock up on Magikarp for the Mew quest, if you don't already have enough to evolve a Gyarados.
Machamps are still the best fighting type so go ham on those as well if you don't have a full team of 6 powered up Machamps, Dragonite, Golem, Gengar, Alakazam, Exeggutor all of these as well. This event is perfect time for people to fill in their teams if they haven't already.
Absolutely, i need magicarp and this is great...
But they could have just as easily made the research task related to a new Pokemon and increase that spawn instead.

This event is for the Mew Quest. If you already have Mew, this isn't for you... Look how many people kept bitching about not having enough Magikarps, now they do. This helps them.
Hell, it's a dbl candy event, 1/2 buddy distance, 6 hour lures. This is a pretty decent event. Last time we had dbl candy was Halloween.
All the previously uncommon Pokemon, like Charmeleon, Golem, Kabutos, etc are all out and easy and fun to catch.

Agreed with the Magikarp quest being bullshit, the quests shouldn't be biome dependent. Gives unfair advantage to subsets of players. Would of much rather the quest be something like "Evolve any 400 candy Pokemon."

It's a Gen 1 quest, not Gen 3. Doesn't make any sense for helping the Professor find more info on Mew by evolving a Wailmer. Remember, this is suppose to be like a store line. This isn't time based, and really, you don't need to rush to complete it.
Magikarps are currently everywhere.

They handled the rest of the quests right with Ditto and ghost types not being dependent on biome, and still being challenging for some players. Going to feel bad for people trying to do this Mew quest in the future when this event will no longer be able to help them. Or gen 1 spawns being reduced even more when gen 4 hits.

There is always magikarp raids and future events. Hell, I've caught prob 5+ Magikarps in wild that were unrelated to events/water spawns, they def upped the spawn rate a little. Not to mention that a few current quests give magikarps (I've done like 6+ of them). There is always going to be some people who are at a disadvantage.
Luckily, as I said, they have all the time in the world with the quest system, unlike raids.

I know the Ditto and ghost types are a challenge, but they are fair to everyone seeing how they can spawn everywhere. That was a good example of hard but fair. I just feel like the Magikarp part should of been replaced by something like "Make 10 excellent throws in a row." Something challenging but fair.
Also wonder if players will be roadblocked by the Mew quest when the new mythics come out. Or will the new mythic quests be their own quest tab.

"Make 10 excellent throws in a row." hahahahaha. Ok. That be way harder for a lot of people I think than just evolving a magikarp. I know a lot of people got annoyed/sighed when they saw the final quest item of "make an excellent curve ball throw". Would love to see their reaction to that one. lol.
The hardest quest is likely the make 3 excellent throws in a row, which gives a Larvitar | Onyx (reg 3 anytime excellent gives Larvitar only). They'd have to give like a Mewtwo for 10 in a row. Even with raids making excellent throws fairly easy (for some of us anyways), can't imagine always being able to do 10 in a row.

I foolishly transferred a load of Dratini yesterday as I was sick of waiting for a double candy event and they were taking up so much space. Thankfully I only transferred about half of them.

You have it reversed. They decided to make Magikarp a requirement. They could have made the requirement "evolve X gen 3 Pokemon" and thus follow it with "gen 3 event!"
But Mew is gen 1... it wouldn't make sense to specifically evolve gen 3 to get Mew.
Why not? It's a stupid made up story line. Gen 1 just means Kanto, and yet, those Pokemon spawn all around the world. Imagine if each region of the world had an entire gen exclusive because it fits canon better.
Theyre obviously happy enough to change the rules and only have 1-2 regional exclusives per generation. No reason they cant make it so to find Mew, you need to catch a gen 3 pokemon.

I don't get the hate for this event, if anything it's perfect time to stock up on candy for all the gen 1s you have to evolve in gen 4

Pokémon Eggs have appeared in all games where Pokémon breeding has been available, and were a major plot point in Generation II, in which they were introduced. They have also appeared in several side games.

I'm not really taking sides in this argument. I think the event and quest are fine as is, but live in a biome favorable to it (but despite that still got held up for almost a week by not having the Magikarp candy). I can see it being an issue for some, but it there is a plausible explanation for the way it is.

No. And thats my point. The quest requirements are arbitrary. It didnt HAVE to be Magikarp.

Magikarp is the toughest evolve to accomplish in Gen 1. There are no other, more difficult alternatives, and clearly it was A) made to fit with the Kanto theme, and B) not exactly meant to be a walk in the park. It's not hard to see why the task was chosen, regardless of what you think of it.
Also, given you've been absent from the game all this time, I guess I can see why you'd think increased Kanto spawns were a bad thing. But those of us that have been in it this whole time missed the bulk of these spawns when the later Gens diluted the spawn pool for Gen 1 to almost nothing.
Thats all Im saying. Game was most active during Gen 1. Many people, included me, dropped out. I came back for the awesome research quests, and Im sure others did too.

Any Pixel 1 owners experiencing frequent hard freezes while playing Pokemon Go? It seems like every other day my phone freezes while playing Pokemon Go and then restarts, no other app experiences this. One other person locally reported the same thing but I'm not sure if that's anecdotal.
there was a period of gen 3 only spawns when they were released. you missed the boat.
lots of players started after the later gens were released and a lot of gen 1's became rare. now they can backfill their pokedex. and this is going on for only a week.
I now have 1728 Karp candy and have a ton of them to transfer.
