High Caves so far is the only world that aesthetically seems way off from the original. The rest take the original stages and go further with parts of the mood to brilliant results from what I've seen. Tree Tops looks INCREDIBLE.

I think we're in for something truly special.

Since Tom is doing all 3 games, do you want his Game 1 performance to try and match the original games VA, try to mimic what he did in 2 and 3 for the chatacter, or do something fully new?

Either way I'm hyped. 3D Platformers have returned.

The trailer actually features a voice similar to Spyro 1(since that's all that was shown I think), so I think Tom might be mimicking Carlos' original Spyro(also a younger Spyro), but he'll probably go back to the Spyro 2 voice(an older Spyro) for the other 2 games.

That's just a theory for the time being though, can't 100% confirm it until more info or the game is released.

Looks great, now give me CTR Remastered.
It's strange that some insiders said before about 1 year exclusivity, wonder if they were wrong or something changed between Sony and Activision.

I get his angle, but then again it's about doing a new take on something old and perhaps not following all the design choices made back in the original to a tee.

They could do some of the changes here though to get it more alike the originals, perhaps also the size of stuff? The old game looks like more vast and larger buildings etc. hile the new castles and stuff look a little like playground castles; crowded and a little too cartoony in their design and proportions perhaps??

The only one I really agree with is the dragon complaint. That seems like a weird direction for the character.

The rest i'm chalking up to artistic freedom. You can always nitpick here and there, but damn it's petty.

There's nothing to fix, it's an interpretation. Making an exact copy of the original game color palette would look like shit.

I'm sure the original palette is the first thing they tried, and then proceeded to make it look good when the original didn't work

I definitely agree with steering the color pallete back closer to the originals. That was of the most distinct traits of the original trilogy, and probably the thing I was worried about the most leading up to this announcement. Not keen on how yellowed and drab a lot of the grass looks, nor the colors missing from stages.

I could live with the other changes.

Surprised at how much backlash this post is getting. I guess the imgur gallery gets a little nitpicky and rude at the end, but a lot of it is well made and you can tell it comes from passionate fans. Its kind of depressing how dismissive and condescending Resetera can be at times.

Idd... the game looks absolutely beautiful, yet these retards complain about fucking color palette, just because it is different from the original lmao.

"Retards"? Really?

As someone who's played these games since the age of 5, I only agree these complaints are legit in that these are the consequences of misrepresenting these works as "remasters," and coming out with all of the "staying true to the original" clichés to try and promote them. You're just fostering endless close comparisons and creating expectations you're never going to reach, and which were never truly within the remit of the project.

The material they have here looks fantastic in its own right, is stylised with their unique artistic stamp, and is simply neither remaster nor particularly slavish remake. That reality doesn't change just because they asked particular Insomniac employees for approval or did a lot of homework. You might be able to create the deeply faithful upscale these 4chan people have in their heads, but that's a soul-sucking technical endeavour, not a creative one. I'm eager to see their own spin on it, and thus I wish they'd ignore all of this feedback, stop talking about honouring this and legacy that, and move forward with their vision. (edit: typo)

Wow, looks really impressive for an HD remaster. I'll probably get this to play with my kids. I haven't played the other two so much, but Spyro 3 is one of my favourite platformers ever.

I disagre, even if we don't like them it makes the console manufaturers competitive. If sony money hated thrid parties left and right MS would have to respond with competitve deals, exclusives, etc. Isn't that people want? More competition?
It somewhat benefits everyone in the end.

I think people want proper exclusives, not timed exclusives and not timed exclusive DLC bullshit.

For instance, Microsoft and Sunset Overdrive. Or Sony and Bloodborne or SFV. Or Nintendo and Bayonetta 2. They're actively investing in risky IPs which aren't timed exclusive and wouldn't have been made without investment.

We want the sort of competition that makes companies improve their products and services.
In cases like Rise of the Tomb Raider or timed exclusive DLC, Sony/MS are doing the opposite: they're keeping their product the same, while paying to hurt the product of the other, to make their own product look "better".
No consumer benefits from that.

Spyro releasing on multiple systems is a good thing for consumers.

This is much like Crash 1 where the first game in the series is completely new to me.

I also assume Spyro 1, unlike its Crash equivalent, won't have impossible drawbridge levels that make me want to die?

The way people are nitpicking about this, damn, I can only imagine the amount of shit FF7R and RE2R will get for the slightest changes.

So you want Xbox to go and moneyhat a load of games to keep them off the PS4 because its "good for competition"? Really?

If Nintendo is really holding on to reveal this game at E3 or some other direct, then thats kinda dumb.. I mean, not one person would be surprise about it and the delay is just irritating their fanbase. Dumb marketing strategy imo..

Saw that brief IGN video where they compare the PS1 graphics to the new one, it's only common sense that the difference would be huge but man.... it sure is lovely to see what a true difference it indeed is.

I always see you and the thriller guy complaining about ps4 getting exclsives. Dont you have a ps4?
I complain about terrible anti consumer 3rd party deals. I dont care about PS4 exclusives. And no i dont own a PS4. Xbox is my bread and butter. And i can feel for Switch and PC folks who are left in the dust for now.

Third party timed exclusives benefit no consumers

Graphics and animations look incredible. Also for people complaining about the colour palette and whether the game stays true to the original, I'm pretty sure the original's aesthetics are more a result of technical limitations than of artistic choices. The whole terrain is green because they couldn't fit any objects not because "it was supposed to be this way".

Game looks gorgeous! Very happy this was finally revealed. The transition in the trailer from the original to the remaster is actually stunning. I'm in for Switch if it gets announced there.

Sparx looks quite different, but I've already warmed up to the new design a good amount.

Watched the IGN interview with the devs; glad they seem to recognize the appeal of the original Spyro design, even if they themselves created the Skylanders version. They seem very happy to be working on this, so hopefully it turns out great! Wonder what (if any) changes are being made besides graphics.

I hope they get to inject some sort of original content. The main menu should be a hub where you leap between 3 dragon portals that correspond to each game.

I have been praying for this since PS3, so happy. There is literally no game I want more.

These games meant more than any other to me as a kid, but every time I have tried to get it running via emulators etc it hasn't worked very well. I can't wait to play this, will be placing a pre-order today. I have never even attempted to platinum a game, I don't care enough to try - but I will do it with Spyro

Also, it looks like Spyro already has a bigger advertising budget than the N.Sane Trilogy.

You did good Crash, you did good.

Sorry if this has been answered already, but are these games built from the ground up using the original games as a template, or are they some kind of jiggery pokery with the old games source code where they just change/update the visuals but you're otherwise playing the same games as the PS1 versions?

It's the former.

I think this can easily be answered by a look at the screenshots: The geometry is not even the exact same. They will also use one engine for all three games, with one set of gameplay mechanics (they did for Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy), so the gameplay itself might differ slightly as well. These are just ground-up remakes that keep the general level design. Whether they have a look at the original source code, I do not know, but if anything of that ends up in the game, it will be a rare occurence. In fact, due to developing tech over the last twenty years, reusing old source code would be more work than making the game from the ground up using the originals as mere templates.

What does it matter if exclusives are third party or not? On the consumer end an exclusive is an exclusive no matter who the publisher/developer is
Timed exclusives are no benefit to the consumer, because the exclusivness only is a consequence of marketing money. If a console vendor makes a game or funds an outside developer (or an outside developer just decides) to make a game that wouldn't exist otherwise, that's a different thing. The benefits here are that the game even exists at all and that it is tailor-made for the specific platform, being able to make use of specific features that would be impossible or unreasonable for a multiplatform game.

most of those complaints sounds like "I don't know how light works" to me
Yep, that's the problem with armchair devs. They don't realize that PS1 games had such a basic color palette since they couldn't really do lighting of any kind, beyond pre-baking in "lit" textures in spots. When you take the same palette as a basis and apply real lights to it with the power of current-gen machines, it's going to look drastically different than the flat colors and textures from 20 years ago. It's not as easy as opening up a histogram in photoshop and fucking around with a slider.
