Apple Watch. Love it. I had the OG Pebble back in the day and finally upgraded. Apple watch is fantastic if you work out as well.

People still wear watches in the modern year of 2018? Why buy an expensive watch when you can pull out your cell phone and see the time in 5 seconds?

What's next, people still own portable cameras?

I have an Huwai Watch 1.

Not really something I would I need but it's one of the few smartwatches that look like a dress watch which is what I prefer.

I have a series 2 Apple Watch and I wouldn't be without it, it's my main method of paying for things since contactless payments are everywhere here.

Bought a Pebble Steel back in 2014 (Jeez, has it been that long?) and it was really cool but after the first year I started wearing it less and less, primarily because it was so limited in what it could do. (I really need to drop it on eBay soon.)

Bought an Apple Watch two weeks back when Best Buy had 'em on sale for $209, and got another $30 off when Wal-Mart discounted them to $179. It's still pretty limiting in what it can do, but it's got me out and walking 30 minutes a day, so I'm thankful for that.

Nah I love my dumb watches too much, i like em mostly as feats of mechanical engineering. For telling time I still check my phone lol.

I bought an ~$800 Stainless Steel Apple Watch the week it came out a few years ago. Was a pretty big waste of money. The depreciation is insane. The hardware was slow. Battery life was pretty meh - struggling to last a full day. It wasn't as nice looking as a true dress watch, but was too formal to wear with anything. It pretty much was another notification machine, which means it was more annoying than anything. I stopped wearing it after a few months.

But I jumped back in on a Nike Sport AW 3rd Gen w/ LTE. Having a cellular connection is a HUGE game changer, and now I wear it pretty much every day and it's almost single-handily replaced all my other watches except for more formal wear when I'm in a suit or jacket. It allows me the freedom to leave my house without my phone. Instead of being another annoying notification machine, I've set it up so that I can pretty much feel disconnected from work and social time sinks while I'm out enjoying my day - but I'm always able to reach others in a pinch. It allows me to be more in the moment - no more Facebook or Insta or ResetEra clamoring for my attention with every pause, every line, every moment of down time.

I think the LTE AW is the one to get, for sure. I use it to replace my iPhone X when I'm trying to enjoy time with my friends, time with my wife, time with my family... I'm no longer constantly burdened. But I still have music at my disposal... texts if I need them. Maps. Etc. I can swim. I can go hang out by the pool. I don't have to worry at all.

Why spend 5 seconds pulling out your phone and turning on the screen, lifting it so you can see the screen, then 5 more seconds putting it back, when you can just glance at your wrist? I only need to ever take my phone out of my pocket to browse the web or respond to someone. It especially saves time not having to take the phone out to see that a text, email, Slack or Discord message isn't important enough to deal with right then.

More importantly (the reason I bought my Apple Watch), I can rarely hear (or even feel) my phone ringing when it's in my pocket, but I definitely notice the watch trying to get my attention.

Also, it's like a basic piece of jewelry.

Here is the number 1 feature of a wearable in my opinion, and I'll tell it in a situation format.

I am currently talking to someone but I have an important message I'm waiting on. Without a wearable I have to check my phone with every notification which is a very visible indication I'm not paying attention to the person I'm talking to. Or I get a haptic feedback on my wrist when I have a notification and can easily look towards it while still speaking to the person. I also get the notification much quicker and it's quicker to read. With just a phone there's the time to pull it out, time to unlock, and time to tap on notification.

I have an Apple Watch Series 3 and I love it. I actually enjoy filling up those circles and getting a little medal for doing so.
I like putting my iPhone down and knowing I'm still connected to it without having to pay attention to it.
It's a great little feat of engineering and looks really nice.

I had two Android Wear watches, the LG G Watch R and a Huawei Watch. They were pretty cool, but not perfect. I switched back to iOS since and have had an Apple Watch now for about 18 months. It is great. Battery life is over two days, great for notifications, music control, using Siri (mostly to control my Hue lights, reminders and stopwatch) and tracking my daily activity (meeting that 850 active calory a day goal is addictive).

Definitely all I expected smart watches to be, and it is a shame Wear never got there, because the design of the Huawei Watch was perfect.

I have a Fitbit Alta 1 that I love. It's pretty minimalist and unobtrusive,

I agree. Two things I would like to see on the next Alta: (1) improved daylight readability (a Fitbit problem for years); and (2) a small side button to wake up the screen. Tapping the screen to wake it often doesn't work, neither does having to whip your wrist in a particular manner to get the gesture detection to register.

Other than those issues, it's a pretty perfect device. I love having call notifications on such a small device.

I got an Apple Watch recently and I really like it. I don't think it's worth that much but I really like the smart watch concept. Not having to take out my phone to do every little thing is great and the health/fitness tracking is great (apart from the dumb Stand ring that barely works)

The new Fitbit looks really nice but I'm not sure how the app situation is there.

If Pebble was still in business I would probably have gotten that instead but oh well.

This for me pretty much.

Haven't worn a watch for years, but bought an Apple Watch last month born of a desire to use it for music and podcasts while working out(instead of tethered to my phone). Didn't expect to fall in love with it as much as I have.
Beyond the personal reminders and activity challenges, I like the GPS integration when driving. I like the notifications for texts and news(did not expect to!).
I even invested in a third party leather band to use when not working out.

I've been very pleased and I really did not expect to be.

I find them to be extremely redundant, but I get why some people's lifestyles may benefit from them.

I'm interested in an Apple Watch. I want to know if Series 1 is worth getting even if it's slow? Series 3 (and 2) is out of my price range right now

Nope. As long as the battery life is less than a week, I see them as useless.

Thought about getting a Samsung Gear Classic or a Huawei Watch because they look like proper watches and I'm not a big fan of the Apple Watch/Pebble design. Maybe I'll get the Gear S4 when it releases.

I own maybe 20 of them. Hit me up if you have any specific questions. I personally love them, but there's a wide range and it helps to know what you want out of a watch before picking one up.

Depends what you want to do.

If you want to actually load and use heavy apps then it can be quite slow. If you want to just use pre-built functions of the watch (like examples I gave - notifications, activity tracking, mac unlocking, apple pay, messaging, etc), then it's probably good enough.

Have had Garmin 735xt for about 2 years now, active about 6 days per week with running/lifting/cycling/yoga. Battery life is great (generally charge 1x/week depending on how much GPS I use), gets all my smartphone notifications and is also my alarm clock in the morning. I like it because it looks more like a regular watch than some of the other offerings...in addition to all the other active-features.

I have a Gear S2 that I bought used for a reasonable price. I like the look of it, the ability to pay with it, and some of the neat apps that are available on it.

My Pebble Time Steel kickstarter watch is still going strong. No issues with it and it still holds a charge for 7-8 days.

Yep, Sony Smartwatch 3. Had it for a couple of years now. Super useful for gym and cooking, hands free messaging and quick updates like weather. Can also change up the band with any normal watchstrap.

Have a Pebble Time and I love it. Gonna be so frustrated when the servers go down this summer, removing lots of functionality.

Probably going to upgrade to a FitBit Versa, since it looks pretty decent.
Wait what?! I knew Pebble was bought out, but didn't know this was happening. That's really disappointing. I love my Pebble Time and have clung to it for the last 3 years.

I really wish one of the fitbits would get a display, battery life, and water resistance like it has.

Apple Watch.

I get a ridiculous amount of emails and text messages for work so it is nice for me. It's nice for keeping track of exercise and using Apple Pay but if I had a different job I doubt I would need it.

My mom gave me her Apple Watch 1 when she got an Apple Watch 3 (she's a junkie for their shit). It's alright. I think I've gotten the most use out of it for exercising, since I don't have to fish my phone out of my running pack to do menial things like pause my run or switch music, but otherwise my life wouldn't be over if I didn't have it. If this thing dies some day I doubt I'd buy another; maybe a cheaper alternative since I've kind of gotten used to having something on my wrist that vibrates occasionally at this point.

Well I was thinking of using it's pre-built functions and use the smart watch for Pokemon go. I don't know what other apps there are for it.

Maybe I'll buy a series 3 if the prices go down if the rumours of a series 4 is true

Yes, I got the Apple Watch "Series 0". With the Outlook app, it helps a lot in making sure I make scheduled meetings. It's also a good pair with the AirPods for easy volume adjustment. The Series 0 feels pretty slow now, though - the Nest app in particular won't even update sometimes. I expect the Series 4 to be announced around September and will definitely upgrade then.

I've an Apple Watcher Series 2 and I like some aspects (mainly the swim tracking) but could do without it easily if I didn't already have it. My impressions from a previous thread on the topic are below. The TLDR version is if you would use the fitness features and you think you'll really benefit from the convenience of knowing you've notifications immediately which can be easily checked, it might be worth it for you, but aside from that there isn't really anything I find indispensable and I could happily do without it.

I find it to be convenient, but ultimately I could live without it and I probably would not buy it for the full-price (I was fortunate enough to be able to buy one at a significantly reduced rate, and it was an essential purchase for me at the time).

The main things I use it for are fitness tracking, listening to music, notifications, and setting quick (and relatively discreet) timers. I swim very often (daily, or five times a week) and I find it to be very accurate in tracking my lengths, timing, strokes, and heart rate. I can't comment on the accuracy of the calories burnt indicator, but the others are very accurate in my experience. The 'auto-set' feature is particularly convenient, and I find it always picks up the stroke correctly. One thing I don't like is that I find the health app doesn't make it very easy to track or compare the progress of my swims, but in the activity tracker you can at least get a break-down of times and strokes per length as well as the heart rate for individual workouts. This isn't so much an issue with the Watch itself as it is the health app.

For music, I find it is pretty handy to be able to select tracks from the watch or play music directly from the watch if I don't have my phone nearby (e.g. if I have it charging elsewhere in my home, I'll generally have headphones and my watch on me so I can just play directly from that and let my phone charge). I do have headphones with the W1 chip, so I can't speak for the connection quality on other bluetooth headphones. For me, this is handiest in a situation where my phone's not very accessible, but these occasions are rare enough that it's not really a major 'plus' for me; I carry my phone around often enough (and use wired earphones just because they're cheaper and easier to replace) that its generally just the convenience of being able to select songs or lower the volume from my wrist that gets the most usage.

The feature I use most is, as with others in the thread, the ability to get notifications immediately and quickly check them. While this can be nice, I find that it is also quite distracting. When I'm not using the watch, I don't check for notifications that regularly and it allows me to check them 'in my time' and I feel it puts a bit more distance between social media and myself. When I'm wearing the watch, knowing I've a notification makes me more likely to check what it is (even if that's just glancing at my wrist) and makes me more frequently take away focus from what I'm doing. Obviously it's convenient when the notification is about something important, but I find that's much rarer than a notification that isn't as time-sensitive. This can also be so easily replaced just by the fact that you have a phone which also gets notifications that even though it adds a little convenience I really don't find it that beneficial or that drastic of a change.

Overall, if you'll use the workout features often (if not, I personally would say not to buy it, only because getting notifications immediately generally isn't that big of a deal), and you think you'll really benefit from the convenience of being aware that you have notifications immediately, it might be worth a purchase, but I wouldn't let other features really sway you too much (as nothing else will get used nearly as often as the notifications or fitness tracker) and if you wouldn't use or benefit from either, I would not recommend it for the price.

I owned a pebble steel but the display stopped working after a year. I've been looking at a fitbit sometime in the near future.
