Tada-kun ep.1
Solis opening episode, nothing extremely great, but endeering cast (so far), great tone and well paced.

I think "charming" is a good word for it.

Now you understand our suffering from it.

My suffering is waiting eternally for the follow-up.

Sayaka vs Homura will be legendary, better than Guts vs Griffith.

Violet Evergarden - End
Great finale to a beautiful and excellent show. Enjoyed every second of it across these past weeks. Really happy for Violet.

Oh and the final scene that implies she meets Gilbert undercuts the earlier scene where Violet meets his mother. They just threw everything and the kitchen sink at this. Return of the King had fewer endings than this. The script for this show was a mess all the way to the end.
I don't think the scene implies she meets Gilbert at all, just someone she knows. I assume it was the theater writer Oscar Webster due to the house entrance looking similar and the focus while she was walking on the umbrella he gave to her, as well as the fact that Violet was very important to him to the point of him considering her like his daughter, but whatever. I seriously doubt it's Gilbert considering the show goes to great lengths to say he's gone. And if he were alive I doubt he'd just live in some random house in the middle of nowhere and his family would have no idea of his situation.

Dedication Through Light
Lol certainly living up to it

Having watched and enjoyed the original Gundam series last year (well, the recap movies) I thought I might as well watch the original Macross this year. Five episodes in and it's ... OK? I found the reveal of the size of the Zentradi to be surprisingly creepy, and now I want to know more about them, where they are from, what they want etc. Most of the characters are fun, Minmay is a cutie etc. Only real problem I'm having is with the voice acting of the lead character Hikaru, there's this whiny tone to his voice that really grates on me! Hopefully I can get over it (or he shuts up lol)

I only discovered Gundam in 2011 and I'm also just starting Macross so nostalgia isn't a factor but I'm not finding Macross as compelling as Gundam.

I feel like the mindset going in to watch Gundam vs. Macross has to be different. One's this super serious political war universe. The other's that...but in a universe where music can change the universe.

While you are not wrong, I just prefer the former. It is also true that I have no rational explanation for having a higher tolerance for newtypes than space idols.
I guess I would be OK becoming a newtype myself but it has never been one of my prospects becoming an idol, so maybe that's an explanation? An irrational one perhaps?

Oh I wasn't saying there was anything wrong with your preference. Gundam in general is more popular than Macross. And while half of that is due to the losers at Harmony Gold and "Robotech", the other half is that Macross isn't as relatable to the average anime fan.

I love them both but I've always preferred Macross because I like optimistic series like that. Plus I'm rarely legitimately impressed with Gundam. 08th MS Team, 0080, and that's about it for the UC timeline.

One thing Gundam has that a lot of other series lack is that I often find myself (as my avatar shows) rooting for Zeon who are initially the "bad guys" (I guess antagonists is a better word). At least when they are not acting like nazi wannabes, fuck you Ghiren.
From what I've seen so far, I have my doubts I'll be rooting for the Zentradi.

It's hard to root for any one side in the UC. You just support certain characters, or at least that's what I do.

And the Zentraedi...well. They have a different path that makes your question semi-irrelevant. XD

Nah, never mind that. I can't wait to see the confrontation between Madoka and Homura in the follow-up.

Just think about it, once she gets her memories back there'll be no more secrets the two can hide from each other. I can't wait to see what the dialogue between them is gonna be like.

MASSIVE SPOILERS, YOU'VE BEEN WARNED
In the novels, it's definitely Gilbert.

It's alright. I can probably enjoy this for what it is, knowing that I always have the original to fall back on whenever.

Literally the only one positive I can say about Guilty Crown is that it singlehandedly got me into anime OPs/EDs thanks to this opening, I was enchanted af
Might I suggest you join me on my yearly rewatch of this animated classic. I can assure you that Guilty Crown is an experience that only gets better and better at each iteration of viewing!

Oh I like the song itself(already added to my Apple Music library since the artist is on there). Just how it starts with the girl in a suggestive pose singing all the lyrics and it's in Engrish. I can't deal with it lol

gotta admit that Guilty Crown OP is pretty good.

Still will never watch the show itself, but I'll probably add the OP to my playlist.

Comic Girls Episode 1:

Lasted about 10 minutes before the, for a lack fo a better term, squeaking sounds out of the protagonist made me desire a root canal on the inner ear. Even aside form that, this came across like a piece of airy fluff that would be cut from my slate anyway given the magnitude of the season.

I've watched Gundam here and there, but none of it has come close to The 08th MS Team which has to be the pinnacle of the series IMO. I have only seen Macross Plus and Macross Zero for that series but both were fantastic. Check those out some day even if the TV show doesn't grab you.

Gundam vs Macross? The correct answer to this question is Patlabor.

FTFY.

VOTOMS is one of the few times the animation kinda turns me off.

Actual facts. For me, it's:

1.) 08th MS Team
2.) Gundam: Iron Blooded Orphans
3.) Gundam 0080
4.) Gundam 00
5.) Gundam Build Fighters (It's my G, okay?)

I also concur that the OVAs will grab people who prefer Gundam. They're much more serious in tone.

You're Under Arrest S1 1-3: This show is gorgeous and I'm in love with every member of the show.

Tsutsui Hikari is an otaku, and he mostly avoids social life. Hikari has only one friend at school, who is also a social misfit, and he is mocked brutally by most of his classmates for being creepy and weird. One day, he ends up having to clean the school pool with Igarashi Iroha, who appears to be pretty much everything he hates in real-life girls. She skips school, has a blunt manner, doesn't have female friends, and seems the sort to be promiscuous. However, she is friendly to Hikari, and even stands up to the people who make fun of him. Hikari's bitterness and trust issues lead him to say pretty harsh things to Iroha, but she never dismisses him as creepy. After a while, it starts to look like Iroha may become his first real-life, 3D girlfriend! Will he be able to handle it?

This is literally "The girl who cut my hair was nice to me, she must like me" the anime.

Incel the anime?

yeh after I watched the Gundam movies I watched 08th MS Team and really enjoyed it. I then got about 4 episodes into Zeta before dropping it, what a disappointment that show was, thus ending my Gundam adventure. I'll go back at some point and see other Gundam shows no doubt, but Zeta kinda killed my interest for now.

I can't remember if this is true, but I once heard that something happened to the original VOTOMS material so that they can't rescan it for a Blu-Ray release.

Juushinki Pandora 1

In theory I'm kind of down with this - the setting feels fairly original, the monsters certainly feel very monstrous, the MC is an entertainingly quirky genius-who-can't-handle-normal-things, and he has a mech that punches things to death with the power of dimensions. But something about the overall execution just isn't really clicking with me right now. I'll give it another episode and see if it gets better, but right now my gut is saying this is the most droppable show of the season so far.
