Currently on trial, downloading pretty much every game to see what they are like. Some good coop shooters in there, which is nice.

Some 10 min and Uninstall titles in there too.

Started some Cities, game is damn slow unless I am missing something.

I was absolutely loving Clustertruck right up until the laser world. No I may actually hate the game. The last level in that world in particular seems like complete random nonsense.

I bought an Xbox One X yesterday and this might be my favorite thing about it. It can be overwhelming to jump on a new platform a few years late into its lifespan since there's so much software you wanna try out. I am currently downloading Sunset Overdrive, Gears of War Ultimate, Halo 5, and Sea of Thieves.

I'm on the trial but the value proposition for Game Pass seems extremely attractive. I'll probably be subbing once the trial is over.

Press the Left stick and keep it pressed until the game speed up. At the speed 3 the game is quite dynamic (for a city building simulator).

So my Xbox One X finally arrived. I don't know if this is the right thread for this, but oh man is this console clunky and unintuitive to navigate. I don't remember the 360 being like this. And I'm also shocked to find the download speeds are shit. If there's one thing I didn't expect to be worse than PS4 it's download speeds. I'm sure the act of playing a game on this thing is fine, but so far everything else.....yuck.

Oh, and LOL at there not being an option to turn off auto renew on the console itself. I had to google that. Like.....what?

I'm on the opposite side. My download speeds are better on my X, then my Pro. I get around 200 to 300Mb/s on my 1Gbps setup. I use Google's DNS on my X instead of my ISPs DNS settings which made a difference.

I am enjoying Kingdom New Lands just. I really don't have much of a clue what I'm doing right enough.

I'd recommend giving it a try, it's pretty unique. I don't really know how to describe it.

Yeah, the interface SUCKS compared to the 360. So unintuitive. They keep changing it, but all they have done is improve the speed by *removing features* like Kinect gestures and Snap. The navigation just gets worse and worse. For instance, changing headset volume is a JOKE: Press the guide button. Go right 3 times. Click A. Go down 3 times. Click A. Find your volume slider. Now *finally* change the volume. Don't even get me going on parties and joining games. It has improved over the utter HELL it was at launch, but it's still insanely convoluted and flakey compared to the 360 days. I'm a raging Xbox fanboi, but I'll admit the interface is utter shit.

Xbox Gamepass, though. Pure sweetness. I use Microsoft Rewards to get it free, but I'd pay for it if needed. (Also, the X is a AWESOME machine when it comes to playing games. Improves everything. Even old stuff. Love it. Best console ever.)

I have no idea what you are doing then. You open the guide, go to the right and click audio. Takes 2 seconds.

Exactly. I guess people need to learn the interface and the shortcuts to get things. The more I use it, the faster and better I get. Sure it's not perfect but the speed alone is making is much more bearable.

Canada, eh?
I think the interface is awesome. Extremely easy to use... I'm not sure why people have so many problems with it in its current form.

Everything is available to you by hitting the guide button, features are located smartly and those that aren't they have been quick to constantly improve.

Jumping in to XBO for the first time in November with X, and being used to PS4, I hated the Xbox interface at first.. but now I love it.

It takes some getting used to but once you learn where everything is, you customise your front page and learn the shortcuts, it's great and offers a lot of flexibility.

I'd compare it to Android and PS4 to iOS. Android takes more getting used to but the customisation and flexibility means the pay off is worth it.

I love being able to add pages for Gold and Game Pass, Resetera community, and even This Week on Xbox, to the home screen and quickly view updates just by pushing down to view them. I love being able to pin games, and also that I can view all my games in a neat alphabetical grid which is much nicer than the Library function on PS4.

The PS4 interface is definitely more responsive and has much nicer themes though - and 4K. So there are pros and cons on both sides but X has really won me over.

Someone else might know this... Of the fighting games on Gamepass, which one is still active online?

Recently got my housemates into KI but it's dead online.

I can't understand UI complaints either. Seems to be an accepted mainstream position. Pin what you want to use most. Learn the shortcuts. Pretty intuitive once you get used to it.

I think the issues stem from the fact that learning the shortcuts isn't natural or obvious. It's almost a requirement to view a YouTube video on the Xbox UI if Xbox is your primary platform. Now that I have it down, I like it much more than the PS4 UI. PS4 UI is far simpler and works the way you'd expect it to without ever needing to watch a video or read instructions but it's not as functional once you become a regular user.

Some positive from me now!

I have now played a video game on Xbox One. It is a video game that so far I like but has also made me rage for a reason you will all probably laugh at.

Resident Evil 0! The one RE game I never played. First thing I downloaded on gamepass. It's Resident Evil alright. So for a while I've been wondering, jeez my inventory is full when am I gonna get to an item box? I keep having to go from one side of the map to the other to swap items through the lift to my partner just to make room for items! This is insane! I'll just have to give Rebecca all my handgun ammo no choice.

There I got the key item. Back we go. Giant Scorpion. Shit. Well I'll just have to run round him. Cant. Fuck. All I have is a knife now. Oh hey the knife is actually the best way to kill it anyway. Cool. Jesus this is bad design though. How could the game let me get in to that situation? Where's the fucking item box.

So I look ay my inventory. I click on an item. THERE'S AN OPTION TO DROP ITEMS WHERE YOU STAND NOW?! WHY DID THE GAME NOT TELL ME THIS?!

But all in all, RE0 is cool and I suspect it will be more cool now that I know of this mechanic.

Also, Xbox One boots up fast. I really like that.

I suck at building games, how good is this game at getting you to understand it?

not great, but it's fun. there's a lot of depth and I know I had to start over a few times before getting a proper small city going. there's water, electricity, traffic, trash, etc. management. zoning and population problems arise.

but it's a lot of fun, learning, freezes and time. I really enjoy it.

This! I already have it on PC tho, so for me that wouldn't be a reason to download it. Steam Workshop really improves this game.

I thought universal modding was available. there are around 26 pages on console but 9 are from one guy and mainly tall apartments.

there are a few spaceships and weird cars. I think saves transfer so that's nice.

I would have tried Halo 5 first but it's like 90GB without even a smaller file size to start!

yeah, it's one of the bigger games. I just reinstalled and I think it's around 106GB total.

worth it, though! the multiplayer is so good

I'm enjoying Late Shift entirely too much.

tried to tell people! a few of the endings are actually kinda tough to get, too. it's short enough to be a party game.

Played late shift yesterday. Fun game indeed. Though:

1. The fuck, why theres no decision tree available? I dont want to start again from the beginning every time.
2. Sometimes, when starting the game, it just dont work. I need to restart the game a couple of times until it works.

Nice game concept btw, id love to see more things like this.

I have dumped too much time into Kingdom New Lands
I just started Kingdom a few days ago. I am enjoying it - but am wondering if I playing it right...
I am just going left to right repeatedly, collecting coins, upgrading stuff - then waiting for coins again. Is this kinda what you are doing?

Yea. It's surprisingly complicated in regards to how you get money and how you should build.

You get coins from archers hunting deer and rabbits as well as from the merchant in the first two islands.

Anytime you see a camp where you can recruit more people or the merchant camp, make sure not to chop down the trees to the immediate right or left of the camp, it'll remove it from land.

Search for portals and the cliff portal and build defenses towards the cliff portal leaving the other side open more for farming and hunting if possible.

Upgrade the home base as quickly as you can because you get free walls as you upgrade it and it unlocks the builder for catapults as well as the banker. The banker is especially important to survive later in the game since in the winter you won't get gold from farms or hunters.

When did WWE games get so damn complicated yet not bother to provide any kind of tutorial or instructions of how to play said overly complicated gameplay? Just tried WWE 2K17 on gamepass. First WWE game I'v played since 09. My jaw dropped in how unintuitive this game is to play.

Lol. We seem to have gained the same impression. I haven't played a wrestling game in years and tried to check it out. Nothing is simple or works the way you'd expect it to. I couldn't do basic shit.

The Late Shift seems really cool though! Things are getting fucked up now. Next time I'll just try and chat up the hot girl. I have learned that I am not a great decision maker.

Finished The Late Shift. Yep those were some bad decisions.

I gotta say I really like that game. Definitely going straight back to it trying things differently.

Tried some Portal Knights finally. It's pretty fun, a more progression-based Minecraft with more satisfying battles and RPG elements, without being that good or intuitive in building and crafting. Seems like a fun game to unwind while listening to something or while watching a match on another screen.

Yeah this XB1 download speed is really starting to bug me. It makes no sense. Like, it says it's going at 60mb/s but at the same time downloads so slowly clearly doing less than 1mb/s. Reminds me of the PS3.

Yeah it's really weird, but I think it's only a bug with the indicator...
In standby it's pretty much the same speed as my ps4.
Actually both are faster in standby, for me at least.

Help!

So I redeemed a 2 week Gold membership that came with my Xbox. IT STILL WONT LET ME PLAY HALO 5 MULTIPLAYER! WHY?!

It does however let me download mt games with gold. What the hell?

But WWE 2K appears to let me play online. Alrighty then...

It was a Halo only issue and a hard shut down of the console fixed the problem.

Couple follow-up questions:

1) Could it be that megabits vs. megabytes is what you're seeing? Megabits is what the UI shows for speed (mb/sec) since that's how ISPs advertise, while the download size is shown in megabytes (capital-MB) since that's the common notation for size. So if you're downloading at a speed of 60mb/sec that translates to 7.5 MB/sec in download size. I believe the PS4 and Steam both show MB/sec instead of mb/sec.

2) If that's not the issue, which UI surface are you looking at - the Games & Apps collection and download queue, or the store itself on a particular game's description page? They all pull from the same underlying data but there could be a display bug hiding somewhere in one or both of them.

3) Finally, which games are you seeing it with? All or just some?

With that info I can follow up with some people to see if there are any known issues around download speed display.

That is what I'm seeing, but the thing is that should be translating to games being downloaded much quicker than they are. It's very slow compared to what I get on PS4 and Steam.

Yes I'm viewing the games collection download queue.

It's with all games.

I doubt this is the cause, but what NAT type are you? I was accidently running a double-NAT on my Fios connection which caused overall dash performance to suffer (when moving between sections that triggered new data calls), and while overall download speed was still very fast, I'd see it jump between 60 megabits and like 15. I cleared that up by switching a second wireless router to AP mode, and that all smoothed out dramatically (NAT shows properly as "open").
