Years ago when I worked for a bank I set up a line of credit with my staff discount (was prime +1 I think), was a fantastic decision, especially if you ever carry a balance on credit cards.
I no longer maintain a chequing account and have my line of credit available through my debit card. It automatically includes unlimited transactions, so I'm saving $13 a month on an unlimited chequing account. I always have access to money, which can be an issue if you lack discipline, but it's been great for me. Use the line of credit to pay off my credit card in full every month, so I'm charged far less in interest than I would be on a credit card.
