I can't tell you how fucking good this game feels to play. This has GOT to be my favorite iteration of Mario movement thus far. The way you can chain Cappy hat throws for combos. I felt so empty when the bird took Cappy away in the post-game secret area.

It's been a while since finishing a game made me feel a little empty inside. I want more damn it. I hope we get some DLC down the line.

Just got credits for the first time in a 3d Mario game. I've played 64 and both Galaxy games but for some reason they have never sucked me in like with most people and while I did enjoy them I always fell off and never finished them.

This game however really got it's hooks into me. The movement is so perfect and I really loved experimenting with all the shortcuts you can take by utilising the hat throw. The whole game looks and sounds incredible and overall it's just a joyous experience.

Every level is good but the standout is definitely the metro kingdom imo. That one I stayed in for hours trying to find as many moons as I could.

Will be going back through now to do the extra challenges. Think this will be quite high on my goty list.

Wooded Kingdom is way harder. Lake is pretty easy if you jump to the back of the well before going down it and hug the side. You'll get a decent lead at that point.

Wooded is super easy. As soon as the race starts turn right and head upward. Grab the sprint flowers up the ramp and run until you need to jump down on top of the goal.

First post on ERA! hi guize!! Probably nobody remembers me from the other place but anyways lol. So happy to finally being able to post in here :') Ok now on topic: I still cannot afford a Switch to play this masterpiece but slowly saving up to see if I can get one by the end of the year. Fingers crossed!

Finally beat the game.

....Wow, this freaking game. Nintendo really outdid themselves. Best Mario, in my opinion; not sure if that's a hot take.

I think BOTW might still edge it for GOTY for me.

New Donk City is nothing short of amazing. I was supposed to go to bed 45 minutes ago but it's just so goooooood.

Highlight of the game so far for me.

I've been playing the "post-game" for twice as long as the main story now, and I'm still being blown away by some of these new challenges. How can that be?!?

Yeah, if people are having trouble with the cap dive, this is the way to go. Just make sure you do hat spin to pick up all the flowers, then you can go pretty far with all of them.

But it is better overall to learn the cap dive.

I had the exact opposite feeling after 100%ing this game.

Same. I think this game is a masterpiece, but I don't know about the replayability compared to other 3D Marios for me personally. I've replayed Mario 64 and Galaxy 2 several times, and each time is fun because *almost* every star has a specific platforming challenge you need to overcome to get it. With Odyssey, the sheer amount of moons that are just sitting there, or are hidden in the ground/boxes, or require a change of clothes, or are associated with hint art puzzles, etc. make me think it would be a slog to replay through.

It'll probably still be fun to replay, but maybe not to 100% completion

Getting closer to completing post game with probably half the areas 100% and most very close. Still having tons of fun, wonder what my hour count will be by the end  I have to admit something that stiffed me though:

The remix'd pipe/door challenges on Dark Side of the Moon -- I didn't realize they were remixed because I got to them in reverse order. They're not really different enough to warrant it and in a game with so much content already I feel like they should've just left it out instead of having this awkward repeated content. Maybe it would have been okay had I played the easier versions first. -shrug

I finished the final challenge last night!

I went from loving the poke bird in Bowser's Kingdom to loathing it here. I probably died on that portion fifty times, and that's not an exaggeration. The poke mechanic is just not precise enough to consistently hit such small surface areas. Outside of the poke bird, I feel like Championship Road was much more challenging. The final challenge in Odyssey focused way to much on the cappy mechanic for its own good, and didn't require any high level platforming with Mario himself, which was disappointing.

Now I am on to collecting the remaining 300 or so Moons!

For anyone still struggling with the 100 jump rope moon, I have two suggestions that I haven't seen mentioned here:

- once you get to 50 jumps, lightly press the jump button as quickly as possible. Just have faith and keep pressing! Don't look at screen or listen to "hey", it will only distract you. If you can muster the stamina, you should reach 100.

- for more precision, once you get to 50 jumps focus on Mario's shadow and lightly press the jump button right when Mario's feet land on his shadow. Rinse and repeat!

Hope that helps!

Man, I'm about 180 moons in and I'm in love. I've never really been interested in Mario games but this is awesome.

Ahahaha I finally did it! Fuck you, jump rope genius! You piece of shit moon! I CONQUERED YOU

"Hey'd" my way to 50, then from there on jumped twice, threw the hat, jumped twice again and repeat 'til I got to 101. Easier to keep a consistent rhythm that way than pressing the same button repeatedly.

That's every moon and coin for New Donk City! Now on to the next kingdom!!

Now that I think about it... The only thing missing from the game are "Mario 3" and "Mario World" 2D Worlds... Mario 1 2D Worlds are really fucking cool but why stop there?

Think I'm just going to switch it to Assist mode to fight the Broodals. Thought I was done with them once I finished the game and I don't feel like trying...

How long until they add time trials for game completion? They did something like this for Pikmin, why not Mario?

Speaking of which, I appreciated Pikmin's use of a graph to give you a sense of how well you did compared to the average player. Tough to know how to feel about some of these time trials without a percentile system.

Very end of game spoiler...

So I just unlocked the Darker Side of the Moon... I see that there's only one moon there... Is it like one giant long challenge? If that's the case then I think I want to finish all the other worlds before doing it...

Those last few worlds and boss fights were amazing, as was the very last section. Going to play other stuff for a bit and come back for the post-game content. Looking forward to going back to the early Kingdoms to find moons too.

Also, the
song during the last section may well be better than Jump Up Super Star

If we're talking about the pillar with the cube rock, I didn't need motion control to reach it with a rocket.

Yeah, it's doable without motion controls.
I did it by long-jumping to the nearest pillar, long-jumping from it towards the pillar and throwing Cappy behind me to capture him slightly closer to the eastern pillar and from there I had enough time to explode the block.

It's somewhat challenging, but doable.

Really? That's interesting. I've tried it a bunch of times (also from the pillar closer to the box) and the Bullet Bills were already blinking by the time they reached the pillar so I couldn't have gotten too much closer to the box.
I guess it's cool that it's possible but I'd say that's more down to creative thinking than doing what was intended.

Got all the coins in the Lake Kingdom on my first trip, that was a thorough exploration. Really liked that area (and the whole game really).

The developers are god-like. This game is literally the best Mario game I have ever played. My opinions have swayed drastically since last I posted here.

Edit: Getting emotional. I look around every stage and then I have flash backs all the sudden of how free form the stages are. Just like in Super Mario 64. My childhood. :')

What did you think before? What made you change your mind?
I'm in the same boat.

There we go, finally got approved, so this is my first post! :)

Let me just quickly say, that I absolutely fell in love with this game. It's oozing with creativity, having a sand box Mario game feels great again and together with the smooth controls it encourages so many creative way to move around and discover things. I'm absoutely delighted each time I popped this game in for the last week. I am sitting at around 450 moons and honestly some of the post game content especially in the later kingdoms is really hard and took me some attempts, so I honestly don't really see an issue with this game being to easy. Also, I wanna add: I think out of all those Nintendo games out there that rely on nostalgia on some level this game absolutely NAILED the way it handled nostalgia!

One think I experienced right after the credits:
Not gonna lie, after hearing how big post game content would be I was half expecting a full Super Mario 64 remake after entering Peach's castle :D

If you can get to 60 or 88 then you can do it. The rope stops speeding up after 50. Tap your foot and get a good rhythm going. You'll get it.

On hour 3 of my latest attempt and no such luck. :/ I got 81 jumps this time, and increasingly less since. I'm about to give up.

I've discovered I do my best when I'm on the scooter, but whenever I'm on a roll the scooter nudges on its own to the edge of the rope. I would probably have finished this hours ago if it didn't move on its own whenever you jump.

I can't get a hang of jumping regularly at all. I can't seem to time when I land properly or something, because I can't get more than 40-ish jumps on my feet no matter what.

I did it somewhat easily by jumping and throwing the cap, landing, repeat. Around 30 or so you get two skips in at a time and it's cruising from there.

This didn't work for me at all. :( I always fail as soon as I land after throwing Cappy.

I had no time to play anything last week, so I only just beat the game last night. What an absolute joy this game has been. I can't wait to get started on the post-game content.
