I just got the phone guys, form factor is pretty good, then again I'm coming from an S8+. Will use it extensively from today, so will know more. Besides the leather cases, I got few other cases for the iPhone and the iPad Pro.
FYI Caudabe is updating their Lucid Clear to have a bit more of a lip on the front. I emailed them to complain about it and they offered me a free replacement when that happens. They said hopefully end of this month. Guess I'll keep this case then
Does anybody have the Spigen Ultra Hybrid? On the back plastic there are these 2 little holes near the bottom corners. Why?????????
Wife texted me while I was using the phone and there was no ring tone. Checked the side to make it wasn't muted. Then I realized. Phone knows I'm using it so it turned off the sound.
Cool.
This might actually be the year that samsung 'earns' these snarky hit ads lol. Have seen quite a bit of 'speed test' comparison videos and note 8 holds apps in memory better, and loads social media stuff quicker (ios still dominates at game load times).
True these kind of speed tests are silly, but from my usage, twitter, discord, facebook, youtube all reload REALLY frequently.... Like I dont' remember it being this bad on my 6s plus and that only had 2gb of ram. Wonder if its due to ios11?
Anyone else notice this?
Regarding why there is a difference and why the iPhone 7+ can be quicker than the iPhone X in such speed tests, it's likely down to a combination of optimisation and resolution. The iPhone 7+ uses a 1920 x 1080 display, whilst the iPhone X uses a 2436 x 1125 display. In other words, it's pushing roughly 32% more pixels.
The "Plus" iPhones starting with the 6 Plus actually render at 2208x1242 internally and downscale to the screen (except in specific apps like games and video that render directly at native resolution). In terms of how many pixels the GPUs are having to push, the resolutions are therefore almost identical.
I actually did not realise that. Very strange thing to do. I wonder if the improved IQ is even worth the extra resources needed to render that resolution given the actual pixel density of the display.
And yet the Tom's Guide article says this:
"Further testing also indicated that True Tone actually improves color accuracy. With the feature off, our iPhone X recorded a Delta-E score of 0.28. (Numbers closer to 0 are better.) With the True Tone on, that was improved to 0.21. That's comparable to the score from the Pixel 2 XL (0.26) and a bit better than the reading from the Note 8 (0.5)."
On, off; I just want the most accurate display. Sounds like I should keep it on, unless you have a more definitive source that suggests otherwise? That's not intended to sound snarky, I genuinely want the best info.
Well yeah, but the X renders at 3x too. Right? The "Plus" iPhones starting with the 6 Plus actually render at 2208x1242 internally and downscale to the screen (except in specific apps like games and video that render directly at native resolution). Right - I'm just saying the Plus and X performance should be very comparable, since they're both rendering similar resolutions on the GPU.
My daughter is 6 and had a problem with it as well. Then i held the phone further away for her and it worked perfectly. i think it all has to do with distance.Really liking this but it takes some getting used to...someone needs to make an animoji all app that isn't reliant on just one face recognition instance though...kid really wanted to send a poop animoji and it didn't recognize her face lol

It's not. Anyone's face will work. My daughter's been obsessed with it.
Don't put it too close is the only tip I could give.
mine is finally here, geez UPS took freaking forever. my dogs really had to go take a shit but I didn't wanna go outside for fear of missing them
Wow I'm finally able to post!!
I luckily got mine this past Saturday when I went to the mall for a completely different reason. The Apple Store there just so happened to have stock for store pickups and so I took a chance and got the last Space Grey iPhone X. Also ended up getting my brother his.
So far I'm in love with it. This is the damn upgrade we should've gotten when the iPhone 7 released. It's such a different experience coming from the iPhone 7 Plus, and the camera on this thing is amazing. I thought the 7 Plus cameras were so good, I was wrong.
I'm still getting used to the gestures.

Same - I emailed them too. Still using this ringke until I get a temporary screen protector though. If the new lucid clear has a decent lip I'll take off the protector and switch to that case.
My guess with the ultra hybrid is to help getting the case on/off - so it doesn't create a vacuum? But don't know really. I returned it as I found the Ringke Fusion to be pretty much the same but felt and looked slimmer on the phone. And not holes in the back
I really would like to see a detailed test but it seems like most professional testers would think it's a waste of time and useless as the results would be obvious.More sources than not say the opposite and support what sangreal is saying.
And just like Apple notes in his link, there's varying degrees of how much True Tone can tweak the screen available to App devs. If it was improving color accuracy all the time, why would those options be there, and why would they recommend lessening and even turning off the effect when dealing with work that needs to be color accurate?
I'm sure Tom's Guide did get a slightly better reading in that instance, but that number could change depending on the ambient light.
I love True Tone for what it does when I'm reading general mail, and browsing the web. But if I'm showing off pictures, or editing photos/video, I turn it off temporarily.
First person I actually see being disappointed with the SG after using it :(Got tired of space grey after two days and exchanged it for silver. This silver band is A+++. Was curious about the differences between chrome and stainless steel, and found out that the Chrysler Building is made of the latter and has only been ever cleaned twice since it was built in 1930.

Time to second guess my SG preorder again.
Living in a small place, the only local store only had one silver unit to display last Friday. Perhaps this week I can see it. Although, I'm not too keen on changing or making a new preorder. The wait is already excruciating as it is.Why not look at them in person but instead second guess based on one opinion?

Halide if you know how to achieve the effect you want without presets. I think it's also on sale right now in lieu of the iPhone X launch (as I said before, their use of the ears is great too; it really looks like it's made for the X from ground up). They launched a YT channel yesterday so you can watch some footage of the app to make up your mind: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCihOic5gBug5K-cxaymwhQw/videos?disable_polymer=1
Yeah the silver X is an exact match to the white 3G/3GS, with the black front, chrome rim, and white back.I just found the color to be unremarkable. I've always had a black or space grey iphone and the SG in the X felt like it couldn't decide which color it wanted to be...in certain light it almost looked like that old samsung blue/black, and it didn't appeal to me. If it was jetblack, i think i would have been ok with it. They really should have straight up did a tribute to the iphone 3G colorways and made a jet black option with a silver stainless steel band. The SG X feels like a picked-over and over designed color.
It seems weird to me that they're like "We redesigned the app for the iPhone X" and part of their apparent redesign is the yellow box in the top right hand corner is cut off by the rounded corners...Halide if you know how to achieve the effect you want without presets. Really? Every screenshot I can find of it has the corner cut off. There's no information in it at least, but it's still ugly.
