Thanks for the advice on SnS guys, really appreciate it! :)

Btw, how do you predict when Teostra is about to do its special blast attack? I always seem to be slower than the rest with my flashpod. Or is it just a guessing game?

Generally, the more fire you see around him the more alert you should be as he is close to doing it. The major tell is when he rises into the air, of course.

I see the regular Kirins, I take screenshots

Then I see a big ass Kirins that I can pass right under. I compare these side by side. I defeat the big ass Kirins 10 times and still no large. The whole thing about you being able to ser if it's a large crown is the biggest massive bullshit one person could spread. Stop fucking lying, holy fuck.

It's ALL rng. I could see a Kirin bigger than my left testicle, compare it to the other Kirin who's smaller than my right testicle, and there would be NO crown from any of them.

This game sucks ass, if I ever post in this thread again then please quote me and tell me to gtfo because I seriously don't want to ever return here or to the game. This game is fucking abysmal, someone tell these shit developers how to actually develop games.

10 mil copies sold? LOL, holy fuck, people.

I see.

I think at some point they will have a quest for nearly every crown, it will likely be an easy trophy that just requires you to check in weekly for new quests.

I've reached the point where I'm just killing 1 monster per crown event quest and just returning from quest. God what's happened to me?

The worst part is that it's totally necessary. I had to do that 10 times on top of the 10 times I ran the quest normally to get a giant crown for Radobaan. If I ran the full quest each time, it'd be hell.

That's what I'm hoping and planing to do, I love trophy hunting and I won't deny this crown hunt is over the top with all the RNG, I wish at least Silver would count or wouldn't even exist, because it is soul crushing to finally look a new largest or mini record just to be nothing, like adding salt to a wound.

All for a worthless trophy.

Yeah, I just find the monsters and then ignore them if they aren't notably large or small. And now I have both crowns for Odo and Bazel so I can ignore them entirely and just check the Radobaan and Girros and leave haha.

a matter of fact looks like a shit ton of events are coming back next month.
All (or at least most) are coming back for two weeks as part of the spring blossom festival event.

Another ten attempts (not full hunts, just checks) and I finally have the Small Crown Rado.

Just leaves big Girros and Bazel and I can be done with this self-imposed nightmare.

What's the best way to tell if Bazel is crown size? Bazel always looks way too fucking big, especially in the Vale where he likes to hang around where Girros sleeps.

yay only need the following crowns and the plat is mine.
karin-small
Dodogama-big
Maybe but most likely since he is now needed for the PHD trophy deviljiho-small
lavaioth- both
Uragaan-both
Azure ralth- both
black diablos- big
nergigente-big

And seeing that the next crown event is in the elder recess, i should have a easy time getting the monsters i need from there.

What the hell are crowns and why are all of you pulling your hair out over them?

They just state the size of the monster. Big gold crowns means that you killed/captured a really big fucker and small gold crowns tell you that you got a tiny little thing ;)

There is a trophy for all the crowns, so you might see some people going bananas =)

I never played a MH game before, and the only reference I have that is remotely close to this is PSO and it's 4 player coop mode way back then. Is it too late to start this or will I enjoy it if I get it?

First attempt and 2 carts in I managed to beat Tempered Kirin. Thunderproof mantle and Thunder Resistance 3 saved my life many times, and by waiting it out I was able to end it in style:

I want to tell you yes, but honestly, your safest bet would simply be to find a Redbox near you and spend the 3 dollars per night to find out yourself. This is a game you will spend hundreds of hours in if you love it like most of us do and worth the cost of testing the waters. Do yourself a favor and look at some tutorial videos for weapons before hand to see which playstyle suits you best before jumping in with a rental so you can hit the ground running.

I've gotten 7 Wyvern Gems, an Odo Gem, and a Bazel gem, but I still can't even get a Silver Crown Bazel after all of these hunts. The way this game handles monster sizes is maddening.

If I was in charge, ever giant monster would be as big as Event Barroth and Kulu relative to their original size, and every tiny monster would be the size of mini Uragaan.

All of my friends are playing it and they are having a blast with it. My fear is that I will be quite behind and that I will hold my whole crew back with my noob character.

Any luck with Mini Odogaron? I've done it so many times and I'm still missing only that one.

The only real stop gap is how fast you choose to go through the story. If your friends are willing to help you, they can blast you through it so you get to high rank asap. Just tagging along with them let's you reap the benefits and get caught up extremely quickly.

Pick an endgame weapon tree and an armor set the compliments your playstyle, and build it. Boom, your caught up. Everyone starts with one preferred weapon and armor set and starts building their collection from there. You don't need any meta, just the willingness to pursue your own goals after you beat the story.

As far as holding people back, don't worry about it. Multiplayer increases a monster HP by abset amount whether it's 4 people or 2, so even if you play defensivly, you are adding a few minutes at most per hunt. Survival is key, and once you start feeling comfortable with your weapons and monster movements, you improve. That can only come with experience, not gear so you have to accept that hurdle in order to jump in. It's worth it.

If this is the Only one you're missing, just wait a week. The Megaman quest has a guaranteed Mini Odogaron.

It does seem like the best idea and it would be again in a few days for the April event anyways so I shouldn't torture myself anymore, the only problem is that Megaman is from Arena which I don't like at all, so I'm on a pick your poison situation lol.

With how rare Hero stones are I wish it would be a Guarantee drop of whichever weapon you are currently using even if that would mean lowering more its drop rate.

This is why achievements/trophies are bad and I'm glad Nintendo hasn't implemented them.

I'm joking, they're cool but I don't really care for them. (I've never got a platinum trophy or all achievements in any game)
I do think people get to obsessive over them and also it is a bit unfair to have one locked behind such RNG

GreatSword 78
LongSword 0
SnS 255
DB 0
Hammer 55
Hunting Horn 4
Lance 142
Gunlance 60
Switch Axe 76
Charge Blade 25
Insect Glaive 0
LBG 136
HBG 101
Bow 2

My original plan is to use every single weapon at least 50 times before putting down the game, but I think I already started getting burned, probably will settle with 10 or 20 usage for LS/DB/HH/IG/Bow.

Achievements in general are fine, but they're something you have to be very, very careful with, and conversely they are things that many game designs are completely and utterly careless with.

Achievements are a means of sculpting the way your players perceive and play your game, but to a lot of designers they're just an afterthought where they say, "Here is a thing you can do in the game. Do it a large number of times."

Hell, to a lot of studios Achievements are literally an imposition/afterthought; they're basically added at the end of development to meet console certification and not given much thought aside from "make it something easy to test".

You're in luck. The quest is in the arena, but it's not an arena quest. Kind of like this week's Kulu quest, or the 3x Tzinti quest from a little bit ago.

RNG for rarity 7 stuff is awful all around. The gems and stuff, they're easy to get but Fangs and Scalps are crazy rare. Augment stones are also abysmally rare.

Man, I'm always missing the crowns for the fourth monster in the multiple hunt quests :( Takes ages for them to spawn after one of the first three is done for.

I struggle with achievements at times... I have to constantly remind myself that they add absolutely nothing to the game, but every once in a while I get caught up in them. That last bit about them being pretty throw away from the devs will help keep me grounded in the future.

I have finally unlocked both trophies for getting all giant crowns and all mini crowns - you 100% do NOT need deviljho's crowns. He counts for all research for the PHD trophy, but doesn't count towards the crowns needed.

I fully intend to platinum this game, but while I'm having fun just hunting and learning new weapons I'm in no hurry. They'll come naturally via normal play and events.

When you go to the elder melder, will the decorations that you have placed on amor pieces show up? I'm afraid that I will meld decorations that I use frequently on different sets.
