Nice! I still haven't put an order on any CDs, but I definitely want to pick up the Y6 OST. The Karaoke collections look awesome too.

This arrived today. Figured I had to grab it once we found out there was no CE for the English release, and since Yakuza 2 is one of my favourite games.
I'm just not sure if i should go through this now, since the Kiwami 2 localisation is still a little ways off.

Worse! Its actually like Yakuza 1 and 2 (for the PS2) so if you don't do certain missions at a certain point in time, or choose the wrong option you can screw yourself out of later side stories :( And yeah, they are also not on a map. Definitely use a guide, they are well worth doing as there are some really funny ones in the game.

Damn! I didn't think it could get any worse. Guess I'll just have KHHSubs on hand throughout my playthrough.

kiwami is actually making me pretty angry sometimes. had some moment when i had to cheese some fights with a hit and run strategy because (at least it's how it looks to me) they gave some enemies way too much hyperarmor to tank hits and still continue their combos.
Elder Akai bros (and dancing majima), Koji Shindo and now 4 guys in the komaki training. am i becoming bad at yakuza or there are some issues with the fighting?

Here is my latest Yakuza pickup! That CD and its packaging are both truly great!

It's going to be really weird not having new games with Kiryu.
Nice pickup! The only Yakuza music CD i have is this

I see that Amazon Japan and CD Japan have a variety of Yakuza soundtracks available. Also congrats on the platinum trophies.

Picked up Kenzan on a whim for cheap, so could anyone give me a rundown on what to expect.

It does seem quite dated going off YT videos, but I couldn't say no to playing another Yakuza game regardless of the language.

There's an English patch in the works.According to the last update
Almost finished editing all side missions in the game, only one chapter left. After that I'll start editing items and other text messages.
More info: http://yakuzapatch.tumblr.com/ The site also has Yakuza 3,4, 5 and Dead Souls Music Restoration Patches.
Two screenshots of Yakuza Kenzan with the translation patch from the RPCS3 blog (August 2017 progress report).

Yep. 4 did have my favorite ending until 0, though.

On a tangential note, can anyone recommend Yakuza films? Ideally with the famous guys from 0? I've seen Battles Without Honor And Humanity.

Takeshi Kitano's Outrage Trilogy (haven't watched the third one yet).

The dancing bosses yeah are dangerous. For dancing Majima, its best to hold off against his long combos then use the Rush style to quickly attack him. And when you unlock Tiger the Drop just use that instead, makes Majima (or really anyone) a complete push over!

Shindo again isn't an easy one since you have tons of sword goons and nothing really to use to hit groups of them. If you have brass knuckles then you can use Rush heat counter moves to take them down. Shindo himself is a pretty tough boss due to his damage output, so its worth trying to leave him until last. He's probably the toughest "fair" boss in the game, since the penultimate boss in the game is a cheap little SOB to beat.

Now for Komaki's training... its well worth fighting Majima as much as possible and defeat him at pocket fighting (the last race) as you should get the speed of Kiryu's DoD stance up to the max. This helps. Basically you want to be as powered up as possible, try and use heat moves where possible but bear in mind your at a disadvantage in these fights until you start hitting Komaki's training that involves getting the moves from the arena. There is also a fight coming up against a mysterious individual as part of Komaki's training, you have to use the DoD stance to defeat him, and he's got a huge health bar and you do next to no damage. THIS IS A TRICK FIGHT!!! If you actually win the fight, Komaki remarks that he never expected you to win and that he'd given you the move even if you'd have lost. So save some time and sanity and lose!

Hey, do you know which PS4 theme it came with. I haven't opened it or registered the code yet?

And yeah, a FOTNS LE would have been pretty great too.

Honestly not sure what theme you get, only stuff I've redeemed is for the FOTNS DLC (music and Kiryu), never got round to redeeming Kiwami 2's!

Also, really cool to see Yakuza patches coming, time to have a read into those...

Yeah, that's the Ishin LE I have. Its really nice. The quality on the stuff is great. Gotta love how all of the releases up to Kiwami 2 all included alcohol related beverage containers! (well, technically Of the End and the two PSP games did not have these either). I've got quite a nice collection now. Hoping Shin RGG gets something similar.

As for the FOTNS music. You get to listen to it in the buggy (I think it can be used for battles as well) and the two tracks sound great. Its the main intro theme along with a song called "Tough Boy". I've never watched the anime so I'm not clear on where its used but I really like it.

I'd love to see a video of the Hokuto no Ken theme song being played in Hokuto ga Gotoku. I'm still thinking about getting the Premium version of HGG for the songs and the Kazuma Kiryu skin (I'm playing the regular Japanese version for work right now). I still hope that the game will be released in Europe and America.

I'll try and take a vid when I get the chance. But it won't be until I finish the game (as sharing is disabled until post game). And judging by just how content rich/grindy the game is. Its going to be a while!

Speaking of content rich, while I've been posting my updates in the main game thread, one thing I will post here is a quick note about the Cabaret Club mini game (as I know many people loved that in 0).

Its actually been tweaked quite a bit in terms of content. Rather than a bigger storyline focusing on tournaments against other hostess clubs (which wouldn't really make sense in FOTNS anyway) its basically designed as a mission mode. Each small mission has different types of customers (who look for different things in hostesses) and each mission has different goals to clear as well. The mini game is also really sped up, the pace is way faster than in either 0 or Kiwami 2. Basically I really love what they've done to it in FOTNS. Kiwami 2's, while very fun felt a bit too samey to 0's (its not really any different, it just gets a brilliant storyline). While FOTNS' version sees a lot of minor changes/upgrades that manages to improve the mini game even further for me. Its definitely going to be one of the games that I enjoy going back to the most in FOTNS (good thing too seeing as you need to play it loads to clear your debt from another side story!)

Going back to Kiwami after finishing 6 has been kinda rough, but I'm still enjoying it...mostly.

The Majima Everywhere system makes for a funny idea and trailer/marketing thing, but in practice it's just a fucking pain. I reached S Rank and his health is just so high and it's just a nightmare of his near perfect evasion and constant knockdown attacks. Plus he likes to drop in whenever I'm just sidequesting or running to main story events. Tying a Style to it sucks, and even at S Rank the Style is pretty much not worth using.

Get the Tiger Drop move. You should be close to getting it if your S Rank already. Go speak to Komaki in Purgatory and do his training sessions. One your done you'll be ko'ing Majima in mere seconds (no joke, the tiger drop is that hilariously powerful in Kiwami)

Just finished 0, my first Yakuza game. Fantastic game in so many areas. I didn't complete all side stories though but would love to someday. I was going to start with Kiwami straight away but I think I will save that game and buy it on sale, because if I understand correctly it's set in the same area as 0 minus Osaka and my biggest and only problem with the game is the city. I love the setting but every street looks the same to me and I got so sick of it that I stopped playing 0 back in july and almost did the same now.

So I think I'll skip Kiwami for now and will preorder 6 instead.

Dude if you don't like Kamurocho this series probably isn't for you. It's the main setting for every game in the series minus the spin off games.

Its worth mentioning that every game has Kamurocho in it. Though in 6 it feels a bit more open and seamless in some ways. Then again, I'd disagree strongly that every street is the same, maybe its playing the series for 10+ years but each street is pretty unique to me, with Nakamichi Street being my favourite street of the bunch since its opposite the millennium tower, and is my favourite shopping street since it has the huge Don Quijote store at the south end, with Cafe Alps as my favourite restaurant and also a Club Sega arcade on the street as well! The amount of time I can spend on that one street is worrying...
Then you have the Champion District, which feels almost like relic of another time, its somewhat run down, hidden in the city and is rather claustrophobic in design with tiny alleyways filled with bars. Its also a favourite area of mine because I love bar Shellac.

Guess it helps that over the years they've done side stories and included various mini games dotted around the streets so I've got a strong affinity with them now. The only other in game city that felt more "real" to me in terms of identity was Shenmue 1 and 2, and that was because of the atmosphere and individual characters that populated the areas (makes me long for a remaster of both games!)

Osaka has a restaurant with a massive crab on the front of it. Best place ever. Its always the first place I visit in the series when I go to Osaka. Speaking of which, people are in for a treat with Kiwami 2 because that main shopping street in Sotenbori has been recreated amazingly with the Dragon Engine. The huge banners, mascots etc. on the buildings look amazing, especially at night.

Never said I didn't like it. During my first 20 hours I loved running around the streets and all the lights made for a perfect setting but I just got tired of it after a while. When I returned to it now it was the same, the first 20h I really enjoyed the streets but then at some point it started to feel like I was going through the same areas over and over. I still really loved everything else about the game so I still feel like the series is for me? Just not something I can 100% without playing anything else.

It definitely isn't having played the series for 10 years, since I haven't even been playing Yakuza for a full year yet and still feel a distinct identity and sense of place in just about every part of Kamurocho. I know when I'm on Tenkaichi, Nakamichi, Shichifuku, near The Champion District, Shangri-La, Theater Square, restaurants like Cafe Alps and Kanrai, etc. It's a great world with a lot of personality, and the events that occur throughout the series really mark these places in one's mind.

Yeah, that's definitely what I feel as well. Glad its not just me!

Yakuza 3 does an amazing job of fleshing the identity of the city out as well via side stories - two in particular spring to mind that solidified Sushi Gin and Kyushi No. 1 Ramen as favourites of mine. The Tuna Fund side mission I think is only started in Sushi Gin but doesn't have an awful lot to do with it afterwards, but I loved how the side story evolved as the chapters went on, and the quest for perfect cup Ramen which featured Kyushi No. 1 heavily was perhaps my favourite side story in the game (well, its up there along with the Phoenix Wright styled investigation/trial).

I had a really hard time knowing where I was and had to check the map all the time, maybe I didn't try to learn the city and just relied on the map thus making everything feel the same?
I'm actually going to jump into the game again and to more side stories and try to not use the map as much, might help me out?

For me, this is definitely just down to playing the game loads. Its a small map so I ended up memorising it and the locations of all the mini games etc. Though some versions of Kamurocho are mapped out slightly different so sometimes it throws my memory off.

But for locations of side content (mini games, shops etc.) the map is colour coded (orange = restaurant, yellow = convenience store, purple = mini game).

I remember Sushi Gin from the 0 substory where the chef there took over from his father, and wants to make sure he's doing the family business justice. Had to catch several fish for that guy.

The Kyushu No.1 ramen substory from 3 you mention was one I enjoyed as well, and I was glad to see a sequel to it in 4! Don't know how this one ends yet.

Cafe Alps was cemented as iconic to me due to several occurrences, most notably two, though: Kiryu first meeting Yamanoi there (and trying his best to display proper etiquette for Oda), and many years later, solving a murder that occurred there (as you mentioned). Easily one of the best substories in the series for me.

I like just walking around the city looking at stuff. The amount of detail packed into every corner is crazy. Once you slow down and take the scenic route, you'll start realizing that every street and alley has its own feel to it.

Be sure not to be in too much of a rush to move on just yet, since 0 has some of the best side content in the series.

Holy shit I did not know that Ishin was set in an earlier time period. Did it review well?
I seem to recall it reviewing decently at the time. Fans hold it in high regards as well, as (bar the rather awful grinding for 100%) its a fantastic game, with your expected amounts of Yakuza content, great combat (once the moves are unlocked that is) and perhaps the best final few chapters in the series. Definitely worth getting if you can either: a) understand Japanese, or b) have no issues using the online guides available to play the game.

Guides make it perfectly possible to understand and finish, I've managed to platinum it previously and enjoyed the heck out of it.

Nah I've never been one to import and play non-localised Japanese games. I gotta really be in it to enjoy it. I'd be very interested if they ever do bring it over here though.

I own too many, lol. I have a handful of Saturn ones, and quite a few PS1/2/3s. If I realize it's never coming out here, I bite the bullet.

Totally what I do as well. I've got a nice retro import collection from throughout the years, either when games wouldn't get released or would take forever to get released in Europe (my fighting game collection on the DC is made up almost entirely of Japanese imports! - that's because Virgin fucking sucked as a publisher when it came to Capcom games though)

so only me thinks that kiwami 1 and hokuto are the best in gameplay-wise so far?

1 og combat sucks. 2 it works well for the time released. kenzan, 3 and 4 not very good until the very refined combat of 5. ishin and 0 was getting there but with kiwami you can change styles at any moment and it works so well. hokuto is amazing on its own. 6's combat sucks but kiwami 2 is getting there... dead souls not really good at all (combat). maybe yakuza 7 (Shin Ryu ga Gotoku) will be the masterpiece in gameplay considering the jump 3/4 had to 5?

just my thoughts.

0 felt great, Kiwami even better due to instant style swap. Best combat in the series I'd assume (only played 0-4 so far).

My thoughts largely line up with yours, glad to see someone else mention how good Kiwami's combat it. Instant style swap indeed makes it better than 0, as it gives you more opportunities to mix things up and is especially useful against the slightly more aggressive AI. I personally loved it, and the jump between 1's and Kiwami's combat was enormous and was exactly what I wanted from the remake.

As for Hokuto, I might reserve my opinion until after I finish the game... but yeah. That combat is bloody amazing (so far). You have more mobility (jumping in burst mode), aerial and juggle combos and two ways of dispatching foes quickly (either flashy secret techniques or the instant kill pressure point timing). Plus they design enemies (and especially bosses) around this, for example the boss I was fighting yesterday was taking next to no damage from a normal combo, so I started doing some nice elaborate juggle/air combo's into secret techniques to deal some major damage. Feels so good to have the game challenge me like that.

Shin RGG definitely has potential, as Kiwami 2 was a massive step in the right direction. Hopefully with Shin they have enough groundwork now to continue adding to what is already there, as 6 to Kiwami 2 felt like a jump from Yakuza 3 to 4 in many ways (content, combat etc.)

I just started 3 and in chapter 4. It's been three months since I finished Kiwami 2, it's a good time to go visit Okinawa again. Being dad Kiryu and taking care of the kids is as good as I remember :)
Reading this just makes me want to replay 3 yet again! That wrestling bit is still one of my all time favourite scenes in the series.

Finally grinded enough money to get Kiryu's stats up to 300 in Yakuza 6. I got the money on the Clan Battle minigame while also going for the trophy to get a captain to level 99 and doing 100 clan battles. Seriously, watch a movie while doing so, haha. Now I only need the last 3 sidequests before I'm heading to the finale. I don't want it to end but I also want to know what happens next, haha...

Assuming you've not done the huge set piece at the end of the game yet, your certainly in for a treat. I had to finish the story before doing the side stuff as I just had to know how it ends!

Anyway, spent more time playing Hokuto Ga Gotoku today, chapter 7 which is basically 3 long battles and one boss fight. No spoilers (that's for the OT for HGG) but this boss is now my favourite in the game (so far). Its got a cool mechanic to it which I believe is a nod to the manga and is just an all round epic fight befitting the boss himself. Hurry up and get this localised as well Sega!
