He didn't confirm what you wrote.

He only said they are building the Switch version in UE4... it can be based on 3DS version.

You can port the 3DS version to UE4.

The producer did confirm that in gameblog's interview. He said more or less the following : "People need to be very patient because porting the PS4 version on Switch is pretty challenging".

What do we have to do to convince Nintendo and/or Square Enix to localize the 3DS version? There has to be something to let them know the localization of the 3DS version is worth the investment.

A lack of 3DS localization is the one bit of Dragon Quest news I didn't want come to pass.

Nothing, it's over.

Where were these people when DQVII and VIII were localized on 3DS? Both of them are great remakes with great localization, and both sold like two dozen copies. Is it hard to understand why SE wouldn't want to localize another 70 hour DQ game on 3DS in 2018?
I bought both games day one. VII was my game of the year 2016.

7 and 8 on 3DS bombed, it's pretty definitive they're not going to bother.

Heroes, Builders and Heroes II all bombed too. They're still bothering with PS4, Steam and Switch though.

Let's be honest, Square Enix were never going to bother with 3DS in the first place. Just like they didn't for most of it's lifecycle. This version coming west always depended entirely on Nintendo so if people still want it that's where they should be directing their energy.

Isn't it highly likely that the Switch version will also feature the 2D version? Therefore people are only missing out on the 3DS 3D version?

Squre Enix is trying to evolve the franchise to appeal to a wider audience. The PS4/PC version is the main version they want to push out and people should support them by buying that version. Sure getting the 3DS version is nice but it was done to get you in the Nostalgia feels some would even say it was a gimmick version. It sucks that they are not bringing the 3ds version but if you really want to play that just import and i'm sure they will be a way to play in english or preferred language some day.

I think they just don't want to say that Sugiyama has gotten to the point where he doesn't allow orchestral music to be in the games anymore.

I thought about that :D We'll know for sure when the switch version ships with the orchestral OST... Only in Japan. That's what happened with DQVII and VIII on 3DS.

They have over 5 more months and expect us to believe they can't change the soundtrack cause of time constraints?

Yup...

I mean, you can play the 3ds version entirely in polygonal 3d. The 3d version looks really nice.

What are the chances of them releasing the orchestral music as DLC? Is it even possible? I know they have done that with voice acting.

I could see them going that route since I'm pretty sure Sugiyama charges licensing fees for the orchestra tracks for games like DQVIII 3DS (hence why it was never carried over to the English version)

I've noticed in games like Builders there's a disclaimer regarding the music noting that streaming footage of JUST the music is forbidden, yet I don't see S-E aggressively upholding this on YouTube, so i think they're fed up with him as well and just do stuff like that to make him happy. They're probably well aware people will mod the tracks, might as well make some money off it and make it available for PS4 users too.

I will be buying this. A DQ on PC is huge. Don't care about the music being midi, since I'll be buying the orchestreal soundtrack regardless and just have it playing in the background.

I'm not buying a version of a game I actually don't want as much the portable ones just to support a mega corporation...

Not true as DQ7 and 8 in japan on the 3ds got new orchestra music, the versions the west got however did not get orchestra music.
Why would he allow Japan to get orchestra music in the game but not allow it for the western versions?
speculation answer, he probably hates the fuck out of the usa due to the time we made japan publicly apologize for WWII war crimes in 2007 or something

Yeah, as amazing as this game looks the situation with the music really sucks. Is this playing on some kind of synth internal to the PS4? I have no idea if modern consoles even have built-in sound synthesis or if they're designed to play back audio files. If the latter, it sounds like a recording of a studio synth that's decades out of date.

Do you have the numbers for that claim?
He doesn't.

Only numbers were have for Builders are 1st week Charttrack (UK): 4-5k > Builders PS4 > Heroes (3.1k) > VII 3DS. Minimum for Builders Switch 1st week was 2.3k.

We have 1st month NPD (US) for Heroes (31k) and VII (35k). None of the others were leaked though.

Steamspy global ltd for Heroes is 50k and Heroes II is 36k.

Don't see the orchestrated soundtrack listed under the enhancements, so I guess we're not getting it this time around. What a pity, as that was one of the elements of DQVIII that really made it shine for me.

What are those people? People wanting a version to be localized is "dont give a shit about DQ" now? Why everything must be about console wars?
Yeah, that is ridiculous. Dragon Quest is one of my favourote third party franchises. A true turn based jrpg that stay loyal to its origins.
I think people asking for completed games to be held back until they can be launched alongside the version on their favorite platform... When ever that is, fit the description!
To me makes sense to do WW launches on all platforms. They should have done that for Destiny 2 and MHW to name a few.
I'll just be frank here: if Saito didn't slip his mouth and mentioned Switch in 2015, DQXI would come and go on this forum just like another niche JRPG. Now it's in the center of shitstorm that has very little to do with the game itself. If peoples show the same amount of enthusiasm to the franchise in real world as they do on forum, DQ would have been huge in the west.
It is SE fault: it is reasonable to expect that if you announce a version you have something in 3 years. They do not. Thus they do not give a damn about Switch for no reason. We have not seen anything of the game on Switch. Heck, afaik DQ X is already out on Switch in Japan.
Exactly. Even Builders which is a spin off sold better than the mainline games on 3DS.
Do you have official sales data to back up that? Just curious. Official coming from the companies, not from websites that supposedly track sales.
People can be understandably disappointed with no 3DS version.

The complaints I'm hearing about the Switch version in this thread is console warrior nonsense with a touch of "lazy devs" being thrown in there.

Oh, so the late Switch version isn't because it is taking a long time to make, but to punish Nintendo fans instead. OK, carry on with your nutty console wars conspiracies then.
Now I am a console warrior for wondering what on earth SE has done in 3 whole years with the Switch version. Great. I think you are not understanding what the situation is: they had 3 whole years and for some reason - which I call hate as I prove earlier- they did not do anything. That is why we are complaining about. Pretty sure in 3 years if you want you can port the game, specially outsourcing. They do not bother because they usually treat Nintendo fans like second tier customers to say the least.

At the point of which the article was published, around 800k of it came from Japan alone.
Plus Asia, where DQH previously had done really well (100k+). Also these are shipments, not actual sales. The actual sales data we have implies Builders tanked just as hard as the other games in the west, but even if it shipped (highballing it) 200k that's below things like DQIV DS (260k) or the original Dragon Warrior (500k) for example.

Also DQIX shipped slightly more than DQVIII in the west. I don't remember the numbers offhand but Celine's posted them before.

Actually...the PC version could be modded to include the released orchestral versions of the soundtrack. Man, that makes me excited.
