Oh hi Switch exclusive RPG Ocotpath Traveler.

That game's production had started long ago and Acquire are making it, not Square themselves. We'll see What Square think about Switch after that, if they still support Switch or not.

There is definitely something going on with DQ11 Switch port. If they gave it to a talented port studio, it wouldn't have taken so long. "Much later" is worrying.

Thought they were delaying the na release to do the switch version at the same time.

Glad that's not the case.

My pro is fucking ready. Let's go.
So instead they delayed it for...?
Wow they listen to western market, Men this is amazing. My hype level just reach a insane level never before...
If they listened to the western market they would have cared about the platform where the series sold the most...

Am I'm the only one who thinks DQ's main theme absolutely sucks and doesn't fit at all with how good the game looks? It sounds like something from 20 years ago at least.

Also, horrible font choice for the subtitle, looks almost photoshoped.

Will obviously buy it anyway though.

I mean, Switch digital numbers look good in comparison to retail because retail simply isn't selling. DQB may do well enough for a late port (200k? ww), but this number is just not good enough to justify this costly port for DQXI. It's probably only happening because of politics and all that.

I don't really think that DQXI should be too costly considering the multiple mentions of how easy is to port games to the Switch. When something like Yooka-Laylee can work as well as the other versions just by altering some assets, I think the possibilities for other titles are high. Not to mention that SE probably doesn't want to miss the rising Switch market that buys pretty much anything that appears digitally.

And I'm sure that DQB will sell more than 200K worldwide.

Literally the only thing I was going to buy on the PS4 this year. Guess it's going to collect even more dust now that it's coming to Steam, hahahaha.

I knew we'd get screwed when it came to the 3DS version. Of course the Switch version is nowhere in sight and given that this is Square Enix and a Nintendo platform it will not surprise me at all if Nintendo will be the one responsible for the Switch version being released outside of Japan and hell maybe even in Japan. The relationship between Nintendo and Square Enix is still simply horrible it seems with Nintendo the one seeming to put in any work to get those games. Square Enix just doesn't give a damn at all and will do as little as they possibly can. For example Dragon Quest Heroes 1&2 was a damn launch game for the Switch in Japan. That game has been localized already on other systems. Square Enix couldn't be bothered to localize it for the west and simply sell it only on the eShop. Looks like they won't even be doing that for the 3DS when the story between the 3DS and console versions are suppose to be the same as well. So it's not like translations for other languages don't exist. There are a lot of eShop only games on the 3DS.

A hard mode is cool! As someone with a lot of experience with the series, I thought the Japanese PS4 version was on the easy side 98% of the time. Hopefully it's nicely balanced and edged a little more towards usual Dragon Quest difficulty.

I was worried when they said the menus were changed because I thought of the awful slow menus of the English PS2 version of DQVIII, but it looks like it's essentially the same as the Japanese version's just without the traditional white text on a black background visuals.

Sucks that the 3DS release is being left behind. I liked it.

I already have this on PS4 and 3DS and I planned on buying this for the Switch to have it on a third platform, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do now. Maybe I'll just buy it on Steam...

The Switch doing so well has really taken a toll on some people I guess. We've gotten to the point where if the reality of a situation isn't working in favor of whatever narrative someone is trying to push, they just fabricate shit.

Eh. This game isn't easy to port, it was announced BEFORE the Switch itself and yet will be at best a 2019 release! All the rumors are implying that it's in development hell too, it's obviously very costly to SE.

? It's not fake and I have nothing against the Switch. We literally just had news about retail sales falling behind digital and if you look at any chart, third party software isn't doing that well for the big publishers making games for it, it just seems "decent" because of the low effort in the releases (as in, 100k for DB Xenoverse 2 being "good").

The simplest answer is that they started working on the port in a major way only very recently. I know that sounds crazy with how long ago it was announced for the Switch, but given how close to the wire they worked on the original release and the amount of stuff the localization is adding, they likely haven't had many bodies available to do anything but exploratory work with what they need to lock down for the Switch version.

I guess so. Would explain the the half-hearted comments on the switch version in the past, if they hadn't even begun the porting process.

Square should just drop Sugiyama. The soundtrack is often overly repetetive, or is simply an ill fit for whatever scene they're showcasing. Sometimes great! But others, jarring.

Hyped to see this game running at 4K on PC, but then not so hyped with how inconsistent Square can be with their PC ports.

Please don't botch this PC port Square.

A shame there's no orchestral soundtrack like in the Western release of DQVIII. Is there an orchestral album that could be used as a potential mod?

Sad about Switch delay but I can wait. idk why Square are so incompetent with all their big projects tho.

There were rumors about Sony sponsoring them for the marketing campaign for this game, not sure how much of this was verified but Square Enix has always been all about PS4 on DQXI even before the game came out in Japan, and after the first week they immediately praised sales of the PS4 version that were better than the 3DS one (even though there wasn't a big gap between those two, and few weeks after the 3DS version outsold it)

So yeah, i'm not whining about it but there's something behind for sure, considering DQ has been a much more successful franchise on DS / 3DS in the most recent years so it would make sense to show more interest about those platforms and that audience.

It is so sad that people are ok with a game not being localized in this day in age. There is absolutely no reason why we cant have the 3DS game

I'm in for the pc version, but it's a shame the 3ds version isn't coming out.

i'll def double dip on the switch version whenever it makes its way over here.

as a huge DQ fan, it's such a constant gut punch how SE handles this franchise in the west. which is weird cuz it seems like they let us get a lot of smaller franchises and what not, but with DQ they're constantly teasing us with it :/

Development hell for a game that isn't even a year old ?

Is there some context I'm not getting or ?

Don't get me wrong, the whole Switch situation for this game has been a complete shitshow and if it wasn't for the fact that Horii isn't about to let anyone control information on his own series, they honestly would have been better off not mentioning the port as early as they did, but there is a logical explanation to why they would mention it in this capacity that isn't entirely doom and gloom for how Switch is faring with the port in general.

Steam!

Lol was not expecting that. I hope people buy the shit out of it so Square puts every other DQ in there.

Cool for those who wanted it but I would've been in for the Switch/3DS version so I'm SOL here. To be fair I still have a few DQs I haven't played so I'm fine to wait.

Yes, the Symphonic Suite is already out. Same as with Dragon Quest VIII, only they didn't use the Symphonic Suite music this time. It's a shame that this music isn't going to be available on PS4... I'd really like to hear what Square Enix has to say about this.

What about it is hyperbole ? Saying that a hardware with less power than home systems will need tweaking to work out ? It's a gorgeous game that relies *heavily* on draw distance in order to have a great presentation, it's going to need far more than a slash in resolution & framerate, which is also true of any technically impressive game.

You never said "hardware with less power than home systems will need tweaking to work out" initially though did you. That would have been absolutely fine and sensible. You said the Switch version wouldn't "hold it's own". And yes the Switch version of DQXI will "hold it's own" against the PS4 version despite running at a lower resolution and / or framerate as most art assets will be the same or very similar.

You would think people would learn this stuff is fallacy now with the likes of PubG and Fortnite running on mobile phones lol... Every modern video game is scalable...

There comes a point where the scale means that sacrifices has to be made...
