SE almost never publishes their games on Nintendo platforms.

I know, but in this case the localization is already done so I don't see any reason not to release the 3DS version at this point.

For whatever reason it seems clear that Square is only concerned with the PS4/PC version of the game right now and will try releasing the Switch version later at full price and hope people will double dip.

Who is the cutscene director of this game? They're shockingly good and remind me of Vagrant Story/Final Fantasy 12 a bit in terms of framing and visual storytelling.

Name changes are lame. But YAY! I'll definitely buy this when it comes out. But first, I still gotta beat my Japanese import lol I forget how far I was, but definitely over the halfway point.

Apparently no 3DS version will be localized. I know it wouldn't sell gangbusters but considering the localization has to be done, wouldn't a 3DS version at least be profitable? What am I missing here?

If nothing else why not throw it up on the eShop?

Square probably expected Nintendo to handle localization and publishing for the 3DS version but Nintendo refused to do so since it also had a PS4 version. That's my guess.

Let's not forget neither DQMJ3 and DQH Collection have been localized. I don't think relationship between Square and Nintendo is healthy right now.

Woot, so happy about Steam version! I was gonna buy this even on PS4, but now I'm super-in.

Hopefully people can mod it to have DQ8 music :P

IGN: Switch version coming "much later". And no 3DS for westerners it seems.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2018/03...unced-switch-coming-much-later-no-3ds-version

Their explanation in that article doesn't make much sense, especially since both versions have the exact same text.
Big shame, and S-E trying to act like they care about DQ in the West is a joke given how they've treated it in the past here.
Hell, they even act as if the DS and 3DS didn't play a role in keeping the series relevant here.

No real surprise for the Switch version sadly, mismanaged from the start from all that we have been hearing. Will be a big loss if we lose the 2D mode.

Guess I'll just buy the game on sale on Steam later down the line, since they didn't really care about releasing it here in time and on all platforms. Really disappointing.

Why are they still trying for a Switch version then?

Because there is a huge chance that the switch version will be an enhanced edition with additional content in order to convince japanese players to double/triple dip. They'll probably receive japanese voice-overs as well as a symphonic soundtrack, probably more stuff to add down the line. And then it'll reach us.

Did they say for sure they won't switch out the music? We shouldn't assume from the trailer, since DQVIII had the original midi music up until the final release.

So we have 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 on the DS/3ds and now its "Thank you for supporting our beloved series but the 11th entry wont be available in your country on HH but hey, lets increase the trademark in the west."

Glad i got a solid pc, but i can feel some owners of portable gaming machines being angry when you hear some decisions and pr talk like these. Not cool at all SE.

Given that SE seems to expect Nintendo to handle the games entirely, I can understand why.

It's more like Dragon Quest games just don't sell here so nobody is making efforts.
I bet the VII 3DS remake localization wasn't cheap.

Day 1 Steam release is awesome!

Way to learn from your mistakes Square Enix! The previous dq spin offs could not have been released in a worse manner on steam.

Shame about the switch version, but it is what it is I guess. Does the game has any kind of multiplayer component? If so, it'd be a PC buy for me either way...

It's great they are putting inthe extra work for english voice over. I hope it's the same group of people who worked on DQHeroes 2, they did an amazing job . I'm a bit bummed about the music not getting re-done, but that was probably expecting too much.

The Switch version will come a year later with extra features and what not. This will give Square a great chance to get people to double dip lol.

Octopath Traveler comes out in a couple months and it's gotten a huge push from both companies, so I don't think there's been anything particularly rocky to speak of.
