I was one of those people who, at the start of the tournament, definitely did not want to see Freeza be redeemed in any way. I still felt that way at the end, and I think they handled it well. Goku and Freeza may have ultimately used teamwork, but that moment behind the barrier when Goku returned to the fight said it all: you keep your word, I'll keep mine. No more, no less.

Freeza's not the next Piccolo/Vegeta/Hit, no doubt about that.

The moment I saw the generic rocks/desert background behind Goku and Vegeta I knew they were going to end it with a callback to the Saiyan Saga. I was so happy

When that music started playing during the final clash. I wept. The last 2 episodes were the best of DBS and probably up there with the best of DBZ as a whole.

Every time it'd repeat the same song I'd groan. I get that they don't have a lot of music but playing the same friggin thing every time Goku does something more relevant than a bowel movement kind of cheapens the moment. Remix it or something, yeesh. It doesn't help that it's super obnoxious "KA KA KA KA GUN GUN GUN BYA BYA NYAN NYAN" etc.

Same thing with Berserk 2017, when literally every scene is the same exact Susumu track, it all starts to blur together.

i grew up with fansubs so this is as definitive as it gets. it still is exciting to me that i can watch subbed DBZ simultaneously with the rest of the world instead of having to trade worn down VHS tapes with 2EDGY4U fansubs from Japanese broadcast TV to just watch the show.

I'm surprised the DBS sub is this popular in the west

To a good portion of us the dub used to be the definitive version
The main differences between now and then is

1) Most people didnt know what Dragon Ball was until Z started airing on Cartoon Network
2) Getting access to a subbed version wasn't an option

I don't know in which part of the west the sub is more popular than the dub, in both NorthAmerica and LatinAmerica I feel that the consensus is that their respective dub is better than the japanese voices. The only people who watch sub are those like myself who wanted to see the series as son as released

Didnt like the arc overall

but the last 5 episodes or so were top notch

Dragon Ball hant had a good end to an arc since namek so this was good to see

Cell Games ending just fumbled at the end

Why did a spirit ball kill Kid Buu when Majin could regenerate from Vegetas suicide

I dont even remember the u6-u7 tournament that much beyond u7 winning

Zamasu arc fumbled

TOP did it right even if it was predictable

I read around that Super is dumb as fuck, but Freezer is in it??? Isn't he behind like 2 arcs worth of mega powerups? How could they even think to revive him?

He might have limitless energy, but I think that doesn't erase the effect of all the battle damage.

What battle damage.

Seriously, he looked fine.

If you want me to believe that a character with infinite energy is injured, then make it a real injury, cripple his legs, break an arm, lose a limb (Its all been done in DB before and you know he can recover after the fight so theres no risk there). Give a visual cue as to why he cant do something, otherwise your storytelling is lacking. Yes he may have a torn hamstring but this is a visual medium where you have to really make these plot points more visible.

They explain this.

Frieza never trained a single time in his life. His power was natural, without any training. He had to train for the first time in his life (he trained for 4 months) and he reached Goku's level easily.

Maybe he was overheated and needed to cool down? Remember that just a few seconds ago, he locked himself up together with Jiren inside a protective shield-bubble and created an explosion. That was the blow that damaged Jiren the most (it was the attack that made Jiren throw up blood).

So, 17 was injured badly on the inside (or overheated).

Or maybe he was trying to stay safe and out of reach, trying to get the remaining time to end.

They explain this by saying that Namek-era Frieza was just naturally that powerful and didn't train and reach that pinnacle. So now that he actually trains he's able to catch up to the power gap since Namek.

Basically, Frieza is actually a fucking beast.

I love how Goku references when he left Frieza alive on namek to give him a chance to change and didn't take it, saying "You should know better than anyone". That got a laugh out of me. As did the Frieza toss.

Was a generally fun/good ending.

We still domt know what 17's wife and kids look like. Only flaw in the finale, IMO.

Well, that time the Z-crew tried to use teamwork to beat Android 17 and 18 didnt go so well.

There was a big difference then. around that time, Vegeta was a prick and Piccolo has some last shades of his villian side (before fusing with Kami and turning 100% good) in that sense the only people willingly to work as a team where tien and krillin which would have helped more if they stayed out of the way of the big boys.

My headcanon is that he married Krilin's ex and the family reunion is super awkward.

And at that moment Android 18 understands that Krilin gave the name of his ex to their daughter.

Ending redeemed the ToP's bad parts for me. Pure hype and really well done overall. And left it open for further story. It feels like super as a series was to show the world that DB is back!

Not a fan of how the ToP was executed as a whole.

I liked the good bits, what few there were. I just wish they didn't put so much of a damn focus on U7 and U6 at the expense of literally every other universe. Made the stakes feel even more cheap than they already did.

Also grandma Goku < Schemmel Goku. Sorry, but them's the breaks. (The contrast is even starker when it comes to adult Gohan...)

Horikawa is a far better Vegeta than Sabbat is. I learned this from watching Super.

Nozawa is great as goku, but I will always love Sean as goku too.

I should really watch z in japanese

I'm sorry being that guy, but the LatAm Dragon Ball dub is the best of all. Schemmel Goku or Sabbat Vegeta don't get to be even close to Castañeda Goku and García Vegeta. And Gerardo Reyero is an excellent Freezer.

I'm hoping its Launch. Only 17's ultra aloof coolness can deal with her hot head level of crazy. Perfect chance for 2 kids gag to continue the legacy, one blonde and crazy, the other raven haired and kind.

I liked the part where everyone got knocked the fuck out and multiple times and re-entered the fight but the justification of the main antagonist not being at full power at the very end is because he got beat and ended up as the one still standing after the prior fight. Goku was literally in a state of shock/paralysis because he over-did it that much.

The stamina BS cloud hung over the tournament for the longest although the last few episodes viewed in isolation were cool. In any other arc the type of beating Jiren was handing out would have killed people or at least benched them for days/months and they'd be rushing in with the senzu beans and shit.

The way this arc played out if Goku was actually knocking back senzu bean every time he miraculously recovered energy it'd work out more or less the same.

The one thing I didn't like was Frieza getting the gold knocked out of him randomly just because Jiren's energy was pushing on him.

I really liked watching Golden Frieza rival (severely weakened) Jiren.

I think it was because Frieza and 17 were using all of their energy to hold off Jiren's energy attack. So basically he burnt through all of his energy reserves.

I actually love that the finale of the fight was everyone in such a weakened state that they couldn't transform anymore.
