Stop It

Are Sky continuing their awful Hamilton worship? Please stop that!

Anyway, Vettel won because of better strategy, that's part of the game guys. Just look at Haas for an example of what goes wrong when the team let you down.

At the sharp end it does look like RBR have pace with Danny keeping up with the top 3, although Max had a bad day.

What a sickening feeling the Haas drivers must have had. They were both driving great and the wheels fall off.

On the flip side, great to finally see a McLaren that doesn't say "oh, you want to pass? Here you go". Still look a second of a lap off the pace but that's a vast improvement on last year and better still, no technical faults.

Looks like Renault still struggle a bit with race pace as Sainz was clearly faster than Alonso yesterday but was clearly holding him up today until he gifted him his position.

After that Force India are next but are a bit off the pace really. Stroll continuing to show why he's awful by being beaten by a Sauber and then...

Where's WFV fan fiction update now? Wasn't Honda meant to have a hundred more hp than last year and invincible reliability? Oh wait. An engine failure and a car so slow that they end up the only car lapped.

I feel so sorry for Toro Rosso. Filled with so much hope after testing, reality hits, hard. Welcome to a season with Honda guys, have fun. Also just wait until you're blamed for the problems with the engine!

Don't really see what difference the software would have made. Hamilton should have been within a couple of tenths of the VSC minimum sector time... and if he wasn't, he wasn't doing his job properly.

If he was, then there's literally nothing more he could have done. Knowing where Vettel was / was not at that point means nothing.

Toto meant that Lewis drove to a delta time before the VSC. He didn't push harder because the software told them they had the VSC covered by 5 seconds

Just posting a summary at end of each race, makes it easier if I need to search for a highlight. :D
Thank you so much!

I suppose the software takes into account vsc pace and pitlane pace and determines the required gap. Or it's just an excuse for "oops we didn't realize that getting through pitlane when everyone is slow is better than getting through pitlane when racing"

That was an entertaining start to the season. Albert Park is still a procession but some Mercedes fuckery saved the race. Vettel will need more luck and strategy work like that to stay ahead of Hamilton for the rest of the season. Because the Mercedes is still faster on both days and their qualifying pace in particular is a massive downer.

Such a shame about Haas though. They deserved fifth and sixth. Especially KMag after that start and keeping Verstappen behind.

I was glad to see Ricciardo get a decent finishing position after that penalty. Mr Consistency continues to get the results in the race and it will put him ahead at the end of this season too.

The biggest losers of this race were Honda, Williams and Verstappen. Get a grip on things please.

With the hour going forward in the early hours of the morning as well as working for fifteen hours yesterday, I missed 90% of this race however, outside of Vettel leapfrogging the safety car, it doesn't sound like it was an overly exciting beginning to this season?

A shame that Ricciardo couldn't get on the podium and wow, what a drive from Alonso!

Looks like Hamilton and Vettel are the main competitors once again...

Just posting a summary at end of each race, makes it easier if I need to search for a highlight.

I appreciate all of these little streaming moments! Thank you.

It wasn't an exciting start to the season, no... and to be honest Raikkonen had outclassed Vettel in this race.

Alonso and Vettel just got lucky with the VSC.

Magnussen was absolutely fucked there. Perfect all weekend, and made Verstappen look foolish with the first chance of a dignified result in a very long time.

This entire weekend represents the most cutting argument for Ricciardo to Mercedes one could possibly make. Bottas seems to be clinging on to this delusion he can beat Hamilton, but lacks the talent to do that and the mental fortitude to convince himself he belongs in the best car at all. Merc need someone closer who can stop these silly pratfalls from happening, and still lock down the championships even if anything happens to Hamilton.

Guys, this RIC to Merc talk has me really juiced up.

Why didn't I consider this...

Oh man. I know what to wish for from now on!

Sunhi was the F1 digital platform before there was one. Things have changed a lot even for this year. Will Buxton is doing 30 minute paddock passes on YouTube. There is also abbreviated driver reactions and press conferences.

But are they still aggressive about taking content down that other users put up? Can Sunhi post these gifs on Twitter or will they immediately get flagged?

Confirmed: Honda engine failure on Pierre Gasly.

First of 3 engines allowed for him in 2018 fails 13 laps into the first race.

Having the wheelgun or wheel nuts fail is one thing; releasing the car prematurely (twice!) is another.

Marchionne is full of such shit. "Perfect strategy", eh?

Perhaps his perfect strategy is praying for a miracle.

Bungling your strategy is part of racing. Shame for Lewis but credit to Ferrari they took advantage.

Surprised by Mercedes speed but the gap is likely much closer outside of Albert Park, it is an odd circuit.

Red Bull better start sweet talking Renault or they are stuck with that piece of shit Honda next year.
Is there some contract where RBR are getting it next year? That would be a fucking death sentence. I would actually hope that Danny made it to Merc next year rather than stay with RBR.

Make sure you tweet at them so they hear some sort of feedback for being terrible.
I will be too. Too many ad breaks as well, sooner we get streaming the better.

Grosjean is a good egg.
I think I like him more and more as he matures.

While I'd put Ricciardo comfortably above Bottas, let's not forget that Ricciardo binned it in Australia's quali last year too.

Regardless of VSC it was the right call to keep Vettel out. He still had pace, and if something happened he'd have fresher tyres at the end. Something indeed happened, VSC. They've found the best way to gain time by going on the very inside of corners and to accelerate like crazy in the only part he could do so, and then with a perfect pit stop. They did perfect under the circumstances.

Enjoyed the race. Looks a bit ominous for the rest of the year though, Ferrari can't rely on lucky VSCs every race.

Love that Alonso made it to 5th, McLaren vindicated. Apparently they have more upgrades to come in Bahrain.

Race left me pretty cold seeing the two Red Bulls so obviously having a lot more pace and finding it impossible to get past cars that were a second or more slower than them, same with Bottas. Couldn't even pass a Renault. I know Melbourne is a poor track for overtaking and people will point to this, but one could argue that most circuits in F1 are not exactly great for overtaking. And the ones that let you overtake are almost entirely down to DRS.

I love these cars in qualifying trim but during the race they're pretty woeful for racing, even worse than last year, I worry. They're huge boats, heavy with fuel, constantly managing the engine and fuel, regulations really feel like they don't allow drivers to push hard as much as they want, so the intent of the 2017 regs, seeing exciting cars is dulled during Sundays. Not convinced Pirelli's efforts will do much for strategy either, the only time they've made tyres that were interesting was when they exploded.

I was really hoping for a great race since I can enjoy races without much overtaking, but to see so many people stuck and uniform gaps of 1.5s throughout the field was frustrating. I really hope 2021 brings sweeping changes.

Oh and David Croft is still a clueless cunt. He has no idea when or who is racing each other and never shuts up. Wish I could watch the races with just the race audio, frankly.

That's a good idea. We should get Liberty Media to provide the world feed without commentary on F1 TV. I'd like to crank up the volume to hear the the power units, tyre squeal and the suspension moving the car.

Terrible driving from Max today. That's how he drove back when he was a rookie, ffs.

Horrific pit work from Haas. Actually, horrific is putting it lightly.

Everything after the safety car illuminates what I feel is the biggest problem in F1; No passing. It's not just the tracks, it's the regulations. Everyone complains about the engine regs, but they have got to simplify the aero and remove a literal ton of downforce.
