6 has way less things to do compared with other yakuza games.
I played 4 many years ago but I remember it being quite a big game (for sure one of the biggest together with 5), I'm surprised it took you only 76 hours!
The longest aspect of 4, trophy wise, was the hostess club with Akiyama and the vast array of gambling item made the gambling minigames easy, + it had no 100% completion if i remember correctly.

Hmm, 4 took me about 76h, is 6 less taxing on trophy requirement or is it the usual yakuza schtick trophy wise?
And damn, 200h for 5 even without messing around i'd say a good 100-150h seems to be the usual time it takes.

Y6 doesn't require 100% completion of all mini games etc like previous Yakuza games, and you can cheese the extra play through requirement. Hardest part is completing the extra side game stuff they put in there with the NJPW folks, and that's really more time consuming than challenging.

That one was indeed time consuming and also very boring.
They made me almost cry when I saw Kiwami 2 trailer and clan creator was still there...lol

Made the switch from the old forum (used to be "backflip" there). Glad to find everyone here.

I managed to get 0's Platinum Trophy and the car chase on Legend difficulty almost made me give up. The only Platinum Trophy I'm missing is 5 but I'll probably never have time to go back to it (I did my first playthrough on Hard and thus I have to go through the story two more times and still have Akiyama's Colisseum fights to finish and they're too much of a pain). Spent like 25 minutes on Yakuza 6 at Paris Games Week and I loved it. Can't wait to play the full game.

I liked the proper fights you do against the NJPW characters, but yeah it did get a bit much and far too samey after a while. Just glad you have proper objectives and greater control over units in Kiwami 2. Should make it far more entertaining.
Thankfully though, the trophy list does not require you to beat the optional
Amon
gang creator missions after you clear the NJPW plot, those were a pain to completely clear (ended up using a range of premium characters to beat them in the end as my team weren't cutting it).

Congratulations! Are you planning to take the platinum in all the Yakuza games?

Thanks. Yes I am, I have the platinum in 3,4,5, dead souls. I won't be importing the Japanese only games though.

My file at the end of my 5 new game plus playthrough was 376 hours, but it wasn't accurate since I had to reload multiple times, and times where I left the console on for hours while I wasn't there

The Golden Gun is usually pretty helpful when doing Trophy runs in Yakuza games. Since there are 4 characters in Yakuza 5, what kind of strategy did you use to do your Extra Hard run?

The only time I ever died on ex hard in 5 was in kiryus Jo Amon fight. It was new game plus, and all my characters were already level 20+. Saejima requires no skill at all as long as you have the ability to not be knocked down while in heat, he's the easiest character imo. Akiyama can just launch strike over and over again. It locks most enemies and bosses in place and they can't fight back. It's pretty exploitable. I even did it with his Amon fight. I set up kiryu with the golden gun for my whole ex hard mode. I at first gave it to shinada for the Amon fight, but kiryus was so hard that it was the only way I could do it. So kiryu was pretty much easy mode the whole time for me.

For shinada, I never fully grasped his play style. He's awful at crowd control, so I just tried to avoid all unnecessary fights with him. I found that pressing square, triangle, and circle in a row over and over was pretty exploitablabe as well. If it landed, he does a headbut and you can just repeat it infinitely. But yeah this really only works against one enemy at a time. Even if it doesn't land, the enemy blocks the whole time and you can repeat the move so fast that they still won't be able to do anything to counter. I used this on his Amon fight after I had to give kiryu back the golden gun.

Nope. PS NOW doesn't have the Yakuza titles, so the only way of playing them is either physically on their respective hardware or via emulation (well, 2 works great via emulation but the PS3 emu is still in a very early stage, but I've seen shots of 4 running on it).

That's a shame. Looks like it's time to dish out for a cheap PS3.

Are you using that same countdown for DMC5?

PSX conference sounds somewhat smaller/lower key this year, or maybe its just me. Either way, I can't watch it live unless I'm working overnight.

Hopefully we get a Kiwami 2 announcement, worst case scenario is that I'll be on here a week after the conference talking about how amazing my import copy of the game is ;)

I think PSX has been a bit overshadowed this year by PGW. But with DMC5 and Kiwami 2 getting announced, I'm sure it'll be a much bigger (and better) than PGW.

Ghost of whatever was my highlight of PGW. Instantly interested in that game. Plus more Spider Man is only ever a good thing. But yeah, getting more Japanese titles would sure put PSX ahead for me, I'll be interested to see what gets announced.

Told you it was sounding like a smaller thing. Just means we'll get a Yakuza announcement another point in time I guess. Guess it doesn't help that Sony had so many darn conferences this year, could have easily halved the number and rolled the content into a couple of longer conferences.
They should've just cut PGW and focused on PSX instead. Just like last year.

Seems like people think its a strategic thing to get game announcements out ahead of the Xbox One X. If anything they should have had the rest of PSX's announcements last week just to bolster that one even more. I liked having a Euro show though (its nice being able to watch it in the day time for once), plus the timing of this briefing thing just sucks for me, so I'm kinda glad they announced this ahead of time so I won't lose any sleep over it.

Any chance of Nagoshi making an announcement down the line about it coming to Western shores or is E3 the best bet?
I see no reason why it'd have to be announced at E3 specifically. Depends if they want to announce it before 6 ships or not, we could get an announcement early next year perhaps? With the way the series is doing these days its still very good odds that the game is coming out in English, just a matter of when rather than if.

Just finished Yakuza 0, my first game in the series. Man, what a ride.

My partner watched me play a lot of it and she thought it was great too. Do you guys know of any Asian Dramas similar to this series? She is very interested in something like that.

Just mentioned E3 with it being the next notable event I'm aware of.

Always felt we wouldn't hear much/if anything about it prior to 6 coming out. I'm sure it will make it's way over here as you said, but had hoped the gap between releases would shorten.

Gaps might start to shorten with the next mainline game in the series. We'll have gotten 3 games in just over a year which pretty much brings us up to date with Japan bar Kiwami 2. So hopefully by the time the next mainline game (sequel to Yakuza 6) is released in Japan we'll have a much quicker release.

It also seems the dream for a Kiwami 2 NA announcement at PSX wouldn't be completely dead with "games updates to talk about", it is an already announced game after all. However, I wouldn't be totally shocked from a marketing perspective if we don't hear about it until after 6's release. I just hope it's already being worked on and has a short release after 6's release!

However, DMC5... that seems... uhm... hope E3 gets here soon!

DMC5 always seemed like a reach. Mainly because I have almost 0 faith in Capcom outside of Monster Hunter and RE these days. Maybe SFV as that's getting nice support.

Yakuza I'm sure will happen, just no idea when. Might still happen at PSX depending on what they mean exactly by updates etc. but I think it'd be wise to not get ones hopes up, just to be on the safe side.

Yeah it's a shame that there won't be a PSX conference because those are fun in general, but I wouldn't lose sleep over Kiwami 2, that's definitely a matter of when. I'd expect an announcement any time between two months before Y6 release and two months after.

There are two dramas about this series, one based on the psp spin offs and another one that is very recent.
I didn't try find them online so I don't know if they are easy to be found or not tho.

Kiwami 2 could still happen,it's the kind of announcement that doesn't need a big stage.

DMC5 on the other hand...well...

As we've been told, Sony does not play a role in the actual development or the localization of these games with the exception of Yakuza 5. It not being announced at PSX has no bearing on whether or not it'll be localized and when.

Well at least we are getting a demo this month to make that wait a little less painful. Though I can't imagine the demo releasing before the end of the month. Glad I still have a slither of Kiwami to finish to tide me over!

Didn't doubt it. Can't think of a demo of the series that was released in recent memory that didn't have the demo released in the last week (or around about that time frame). I mean, I'd have loved it sooner, but I knew that wouldn't be the case.

That's because they are doing events in a lot of cities in Japan where people can try the demo and if they release it before some of the people would just download it and play at home.
But of course I'd have loved it sooner too lol. Can't wait to play it!

Good point, forgot about the ongoing events somehow! Really wish I could go to one of those, love how much marketing the games get over in Japan compared to over in the UK.

Eyyyy, just wanted to let you guys know I made it over too. (I do the English for this series if you didn't know.) As a personal policy, I'll do my best to stay out of The Discourse™, but admittedly, sometimes I can't resist stepping in if I feel like it's needed or if doing so will help somebody out. As always, you can find me on Twitter if you have any questions I am both allowed to answer and that fit in 140 characters. (The 280 continues to elude me, thankfully.)

And finally, if I've never said it, thanks for being such a great, welcoming community, no matter where you call home. =)

Ohh shit, everybody look. It's the Patriarch of the Yakuza Series Localization Family! Bow, you morons!

Eyyyy, just wanted to let you guys know I made it over too.
Btw, you should PM a mod to give you a proper tag that mentions your role as head of the localization team. I can send a PM on your behalf if you're not familiar with the setup in this new forum.

You are the reason I've fallen in love with this series then, love finding all the references and adaptations made in the dialogue to have it make even a lick of sense in the batshit world of the game. The Miracle Johnson section had me howling.

Our Patriarch has revealed himself!

It's nice seeing you here man. Hopefully we hear more from you in this thread and other Yakuza related discussions. It doesn't have to be anything SEGA™ or Localization™ related. Just share your love for Yakuza with us like we all do!

I just wanted to give a thanks for the amazing localization job you did on Y0, taking something very Japanese and making it still feel Japanese while being understandable for westerners. It's one of the best localizations I've seen.

Welcome! And remember, don't equip the Charismatic Autobiography item!
