I believe some of the obscure power moons require the shake functions that activate the frog's alternate jump or bullet bill's extra boost mode, for example.
There was a thread on here about getting around those. Last I checked, no one had found a motion-only moon, though a handful seem to be at first glance. Edit: Here's that thread: https://www.resetera.com/threads/su...-that-need-waggle-that-dont-need-waggle.3591/

As far as just playing the game though, I never felt like I was really missing much from almost never shaking. The game plays well without any of it.

Still, it's annoying how some of the functionality is tied to motion. Most of it's stuff that is just an outright better version of what the Y button already does - these were bad ideas in the first place. Others, like Cheep Cheep or a spoiler require motion to do a unique action - for these, there's no reason the secondary action couldn't map to X instead of Y. The implementation of motion controls was just a really bad idea. Though I'm sure they had good reasons to go for it, considering the rest of what they made is a brilliant game.

the frog does actually not require the shake function.. Just dash by holding Y+direction button, and then the jump button, it will jump much higher.

Quick question for you all: when you press Y on a course map to bring up the current moons obtained, are ALL the moons listed or are the post-game moons "hidden" till you beat Bowser?
Post game are hidden until you unlock the ability to get them.

BUT, there are a few "normal" moons that you can't get until post-game, so even if they're on the list, they might not be obtainable yet.

The more I play this, the more I love it. Getting all the Power Moons has never felt so addictive.

When the initial wow factor of Cappy's powers goes away, the open world design somehow keeps you feeling baffled as to how well-crafted they are, the (subtle) hidden secrets make you appreciate their designs more.

Complemented by the gorgeous art style and beautiful soundtrack, you can see this team made a damn good effort and enjoyed themselves along the way.

So help me this December when I decide my Game of the Year, Breath of the Wild has one incredible close contender....

Post game, I cant figure out where so many moons are hiding. Even ones that have been there all along.

I mean, I'm positive I got every moon in the hat kingdom, but my list says otherwise.

The parrot/Toad only hints at moons you can access currently. If you don't want any hints at all, just run by Toad. If he tells you he's run out of hints (disabling actual "press A to dialogue" functionality), you have collected everything you can currently.

I'm missing some captures! I love that they included capture & music lists. If anything, I would have preferred they track more stats and things, a la Smash. I just want every video game to give me a list of how many times I've done X or pressed Y.
Endgame side content spoiler:
Toadette's Achievements are nice, too, but they should have implemented it in a way that is similar to normal trophy/achievements, and then when you finally find her she gives you a lump sum of stars, rather than doling them out one by one.

Played for about 40 minutes over lunch, found 5 moons in Bonneton and I have like 10 left. I have no idea where they could possibly be. I might need to speak to the hint toad!

I hope Nintendo patches in replays for the online Leaderboards.
That feature was so nice in Tropical Freeze.
I want to watch those crazy Koopa freerun times.

It's cumbersome but the frog jump is never required for any precision platforming so shaking the whole system in handheld is at least doable.

Yeah this is how I did it after about an hour around that moon with every button combination not knowing what i'm doing wrong. Then just googled it and find out it requires motion.

I got the bullet bill's one normally but no way around the frog's alternate jump.

Nope, not quite-

Just managed to do it, it's uploading to Twitter right now so I'll edit it in when it loads. Sorry that I was using a spoilery costume but it's my favorite.

So, so far I have yet to find any moons in this game (out of my 750) that need motion controls, since the only ones I used motion controls for were the above and the one in the OP.

Motion is obviously the intended solution but it's certainly doable without it.

Well, I beat the story with 265 moons. What a fantastic ending, absolutely stellar. From the boss fight until the credits rolled I was immersed fully. Then, after the credits, with the reveal I didn't stop grinning for about an hour straight. That outfit as well, just perfect. Absolutely perfect. I'm so happy there's so much left to do, and so many new things left to explore. I didn't think anything would too BoTW but here we are.

One question though:
how many moons can you buy from the shop after the story ending. I bought like 12 and seem to be able to buy more. Little confused how this is marked against the total moons in the game?

All I really need is a sheep death counter.

I stand corrected. I really tried to get it for a long time with no luck. Didn't know it was doable wothout motion.

Yup, that post was from a thread where we were asking people for moons they thought weren't doable without motion. It's actually a pretty fun challenge, restricting yourself to no motion controls or no captures for certain moons. But yeah, I don't believe anyone has yet found a moon that is not doable without motion controls. So far it seems you can 100% the game entirely without using motion once.

I want Mario's capture hat to be a new move in Smash Bros Switch. Like you control an opponent for a couple of seconds. Lol

Apart from that frog jump i've been playing the game with no motion controlls. Mostly handheld and about 2~ hours docked with Pro controller.

I'm stumped on 3 of these art hints in
Dark Side

1. Moon cycle image
2. Dog digging in a cave with black walls
3. Zoom in of something that looks sort of like a hill with '4' and 'C' horizontally and vertically.
Not asking for hints yet, but how did you all manage on these? Some seem quite abstract, I like it!

Why does Mario sometimes pass through or collect the hat on the first part of a long hat jump? It gets so frustrating.

Number 3 stumped me for a while until I realized I was looking in the wrong kingdom.

It depends on whether or not you're holding Y, and what you've done before the hat throw. For instance, you can't bounce off the hat after jumping off a wall or popping out of a capture.

OMG. For 3 I wasn't sure which one you were talking about (and I 100% the game last night). I didn't even notice the letter and number. Would've made that a lot easier hahaha.

I sorta lucked out by seeing all that art before I even attempted completing any kingdom in the game, so going back to an exploring every kingdom one by one helped me in making some of those connections. The other thing that helped was deleting my screenshots of each art hint after I find that moon.

I got home from work the other day and booted up some mario. Before I realised it was time for bed, I had spent the whole entire time trying to get a better time in the cascade Kingdoms turtle race. I never thought that sort of thing would drain up my play time.

For those curious, I only got 18 seconds. I reeeeally want to hit 15 seconds lol

Wait, wait wait...you can
buy moons at shops? I mean, I know there's one moon per shop as per "shopping in X", but like you buy excess moons you don't want to find? How does that work?

So rewarding though. Some of my favorite missions in the game! I am embarrassed to say that I did have to look up the "KEEP" one from the Seaside Kingdom.

I *think* I have an idea for that one. Going to
Metro
to see if I'm right.

Post game has been very relaxing for me. Just casually picking it up here and there picking up Moons, Purple Coins, Outfits and Items. Almost 100% with the Sand Kingdom. I'm around 300 Moons and its been entirely gratifying. Looks like this will take a while and I'm in no hurry.

I'm 30 hours into the game and on the brink of finishing the main game. I'm still seeing new ideas and that is incredible. I can't remember that last game, if any, that has continuously brilliant and new ideas. This game really sets a new bar for interactivity in any game.

Ahh yeah I wish I would have known about that. I didn't see the art until I already collected the moons from everywhere else.

I actually managed to figure those out rather quickly, but the one in the Cap Kingdom with the minimalistic figures of various colors standing in a row in front of a background was one of the most satisfying feelings when it finally clicked for me about where it was.

999 baby! 100% complete!

Could not believe I can complete this game. My platforming skills are a bit rusty but still managed to pull through up until the final challenges.

And that payoff to the final challenges...the feels...

Finally beat the hardest challenge in the game
Darker Side of the Moon
. By the time I got to the part with clouds/bombs I could almost complete the entire thing without getting hit. Was a cool area that tested your understanding of everything through the game.
