Release Date: March 23rd, 2018
Platforms: Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC (Origin)
Price: $29.99
Developer: Hazelight --- Previous Games: Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Publisher: Electronic Arts - Under the EA Originals branch.

From the creators of Brothers – A Tale of Two Sons comes A Way Out, an exclusively co-op adventure where you play the role of one of two prisoners making their daring escape from prison. What begins as a thrilling breakout quickly turns into an unpredictable, emotional adventure unlike anything seen or played before. A Way Out is an experience that must be played with two players. Each player controls one of the main characters, Leo and Vincent, in a reluctant alliance to break out of prison and gain their freedom. Together, you'll explore notions of trust and consequence as your choices begin to catch up with you.

QandA.png

What is A Way Out? A Way Out is an action-adventure game played from a third-person perspective. It is specifically designed for split-screen cooperative multiplayer, which means that it must be played with another player through either local or online play.

Who are the Main Characters? Leo and Vincent both convicted criminals on a quest to break out and return to their lives on the outside.

How long is the game? Around six to eight hours.

Does my friend have to buy a copy to play with me? No, whoever you want to play you can share the game with through a "friends pass free trial."

Is the friends pass free trial unlimited? Yes, yes it is.

Will there be a Switch port? Maybe but at the moment Hazelight has nothing to confirm.

Is there a singleplayer? For those without a friend to play with, there is no and will be no single player mode. Reach out maybe there is someone here or on other online communities that wants to play with you.

Online or Local Co-op? Both!

Does it have matchmaking? No, if you are looking to play with someone else post here and say what your platform is, whether you have a headset, and where your are in the world. Reach out and see, there is likely going to be someone if you are patient.

Are there going to be any kind of microtransactions? Nope.

Is it any good? Opencritic score stands at 80 with the note of "Critics disagree more than usual". So it is likely good but there are some sticking points for some people. As people start getting opinions read as you will until you find yourself on one side of the fend or the other.

Will it appear on EA Access? No, Hazelight fully owns A Way Out. EA serves as the Publisher only to help with distribution and marketing.

I have more questions? Check out Josef Fares' AMA on Reddit or better still we have F8RGE in the thread who is a verafied member of Electronic Arts answering questions.

Should I mark my spoilers of the game? Yes, mark spoilers for the first two weeks and after that things will be a bit more lax.

Gonna play this over the weekend I think, depends on the length and if we can complete it in one day or not (preferred)

Just a heads up, but there is no EA Access for A Way Out.
Never, ever? Are you sure about that, because I can wait for a year even if that's the case. If this is getting a disc release, I might just loan it from the libraby.

I'm on a mission to not spend any money on gaming, outside of services. That's why the EA access thing.

It's not on EA Access. It does have a disc release coming (on launch day), so you should be able to find it at your library.

does anyone have the pre-order theme? I might pre-order it now, or just buy a $100 PSN card and buy the god of war Digital deluxe and this after the release date matched with my 20% code gets me $20 for free.

Also, According to PowerPyx, the platinum looks straightforward story based, with one being a collectible relatedsince its the only trophy at 0.00% gain even when the physical game has leaked early?

"A Way Out under its EA Originals program — will offer a free "friends pass" trial for the game, the company announced tonight during The Game Awards 2017. As long as you know someone who has purchased A Way Out, you can download the trial and play "the entire co-op experience" with that person without paying for it, said EA. In essence, it'll work just like inviting a friend to your house to play the game on your couch."

This is pretty damn generous I must say.

I respect the devs for not just Brothers but also the free friend pass. That's really great.

I'll probably play it someday. It intrigues me and looks really good, but I'm not a co-op person and don't like scheduling gaming with another person, nor do I know who I'd play it with.

If it worked like Brothers or had AI for the second character it'd be easier for me. Not that I'm shitting on it for not having those.

About the "free trial" when playing with a friend, will this unlock trophies/achievements like full version of the game?

Really been looking forward to this, are reviews hitting today?
If it's decent I'll definitely pick this up to play through with my sister.

I don't need a shower of 9/10's to be convinced or anything.

I wish you could play with randoms. It's hard to lock real life friends down for 8 hours of play time. Gonna have to wait and actually block out a few sessions with friends first.

Is this coming out on Steam too or just Origin?

Unlike Ubi, EA doesn't allow its third-party development partners to release games on Steam. The quasi-exception to this is the Maximum Edition of Crysis 2.

Edit: Just to be 100% clear, I'm of course talking about games Ubi/EA published and post-Uplay/Origin releases specifically. Obviously there's no "You can never release another game on Steam ever again" clause in the EA Partners/Originals contract template.

I'm actually really excited about this game. Won't be buying till next week, but i will definitely be buying it.

I am also hoping that it's a success, so that other devs can make games like this as well.

If you're playing as the 'friend' you won't unlock achievements or trophies, but your progression will stay so if you pick up the game it'll pop the achievements you've earned.

You can also pre-load the friend trial at anytime, so no having to wait until getting an invite etc.

I assume there's no pre-load before release, just that you can download the trial even without actually having a invite?

One question that i do have about the friend trial. Is it restricted to one person only or can i share it with more than one individual?

So not sure if anyone is interested, but I'd totally be down for doing a co-op playthrough (via Origin) if anyone else wants to play and can't find someone to.

I'm so torn on this game I'm not even joking.

Edit: literally just noticed it's only €30 I'll bite for that price

Looking forward to it. I think it will score in the mid to high 70s, which is pretty respectable.

For those wondering about length, there a playthrough up on Youtube that's six hours long. It's not in English, so I don't know what their impressions are.

Hoping this will be available at 12 EST on Xbox. Have work tomorrow afternoon and I'm 100% trying to complete the game by 4-5 am with my brother.
