The game brings nothing new to the table in level design, setting, story content, gameplay features or graphics. If you have played the Assassin's Creed games leading up to Rogue, there is no reason to play it whatsoever.

Care to expand on that opinion?

Black Flag is my favourite by a huge margin though I've never played any of the later games. (I will at some point)

Tailing missions were atrocious in Black Flag. The best thing about AC games is having a beautiful and vast ancient setting to explore which is basically omitted from BF as well.

What if people want more of the same? Could you not say the same about the Ac2 trilogy or nearly any other game series?

Yeah but you're a pirate and there's Sea Shanties.

Fair enough though. I actually found the old ones much more enjoyable after finishing 4. I barely got anywhere in them before

Maybe I'll grab it when the price drops, I'm gonna be way too busy with Far Cry 5

Even maxed out, the PC version looks kinda rough, so if the textures are better on this new release, I'll buy it for sure

I love Black Flag and am about to download this now, finally. Been looking forward to it for years but couldn't go back after how strong the performance on Black Flag on PS4 was. Love the Kenway stories and found Unity and Origins pretty disappointing (Syndicate would be my favorite current gen title, I really dug the rope launcher).

Didn't mind the tailing missions in Black Flag except that one that involved tailing using a ship in a small linear swamp. That was hilariously peak tailing.

This and Ni no Kuni 2 being on the short side for the genre are big pluses right now too.

The Ac2 trilogy had meaningful changes in several of those categories between the games. The same goes for all the games from 1 to Black Flag imo. It is quite an achievement that Rogue managed to be almost completely redundant in every aspect of its design. I guess it has some unique story content, but I honestly think that is it.

A good ACIV basically.

Was quite happy with how the story tied AC3 and Unity together. Good game if you're invested in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

Fair enough. I'll probably still grab it down the line as I loved IV so much. I'll quote you if I'm dissapointed

It probably would have been a better idea to get this game out before Origins, or at least update the combat and some of the stuff and release it now instead. Now, instead of leaving it as it was probably will make it hard for some people to go back to given Origin's success and advancements. It's a weird release.
Nah. From a marketing perspective this is smart. Hype for AC is big now after the success of Origins. Get a quick product out to capitalize a bit off of that.

It was decent, but I can barely remember anything that happened in it aside from the ending. It really is just an elaborate expansion for AC4.

Ya, I think that the story in BF was lacking altho I did enjoy Edward as a character everything else surrounding him was dull. IMO, and I was not a huge fan of the ship combat so farming supplies to upgrade the ship was a huge let down for me. All the island seamed the same and I did not really get a sense of discovery, I did not like the way they went with the modern day stuff, I missed Desmond and his arc I also had huge expeditions for this game It was my first game on the one. But that being said it I like the game still made my top 10 at the end of the year,at the end of the day it comes down to the fasted I did not like the ship combat at all so turns me off form most things in the game. I do want to go back to this game tho give it a second chance.

As for Rogue it went in a whole new direction for the series and it felt new and fresh to me.

I share that guys opinion on Black Flag, and I hate it largely because it's hardly even an AC game at its core. They wanted to make a pirate game so they did, and the Assassin parts feel tacked onto a pirate sim. Unity is a far better AC game than 4, Syndicate, or Origins just due to the fact that it actually tried to be an AC game. Unity had the location, the focus on assassinations, and the characters; it was just let down by investors who didn't care what happened as long as they hit the deadline for the game. If you gave that team another few months to a year extra dev time, people would be talking about Unity in the same vein they talk about AC2 and Brotherhood.

Mind you, I don't hate people who like Black Flag, but I think people calling it the best AC game in the franchise aren't really paying mind to what the franchise was made to be, and what that game did well.

i'm just sad about the shit Unity and Unity's dev team gets, I might do an LTTP on it one day

I feel like Origins has ruined every single AC game for me. Couldn't get into Unity after playing the former and I really enjoyed Unity before. I've been spoiled by the RPG mechanics and the combat of Origins.

That's interesting.

I bounced off every assassin's creed except 4. But once I loved and finished that I really enjoyed going back to the others.

Maybe that was one of it's purposes after the poorly received 3?(relatively poorly)

Some folks enjoyed this more than Unity so that says something. Rogue was under looked really.
That was always going to happen with the timing and the platforms it released on. This remaster should have been prepped and ready to go in April 2015.

And it being better than Unity is 100% true, but it doesn't say all that much because Unity was terrible.

So did they add anything compared to the previous gen version? To me this was the better game compared to Unity that was released at the same. Not the best looking one of course but the better playing game.

Achilles and Adewale together, mmmmmmm yes baby

The game looks great on Pro, it's obviously the outdated style but everything is nice and sharp. The problems come with the draw distance, things disappear before necessary at this res.

I'll throw something together later tonight.

Any ideas for subtitle?

I was thinking "Templars, less evil than Cambridge Analytica".
Assassins Creed Rogue |OT| Darby O' Gill and the Stabby People

The Irish accent is as bad as those in that film, only Tom Cruise and that Irish episode of Star Trek Voyager are worse.

They share a franework but they're hardly the same game. IV has a better story, more interesting locations, more deliberate pacing.

Heartily disagree on that point. Black Flag has a decent story overall though, but Rogue actually tries something unique for the series by showing the Assassins as more morally ambiguous at best, and actually have the Templars some characterization, which was sort of expanded on in Unity, though unfortunately not that well.

Can't imagine it'd be as smooth to play after Origins. Unless they overhauled the combat system (answer: of course not), I find it hard going back to the older AC games now. Which is a shame because I still need to finish Unity and Syndicate.

Just looking at the front page, they've got a lot of stuff on their plate and this remaster was very low key. Probably isn't high priority, and I don't think that outlets have had it that long.

Probably so, was just curious. Poor John is probably still recovering from that insufferable bout with Fortnite mobile.

I'm going to play this at some point. I'll likely wait until it's $40 CAD. Origins is $50 CAD currently so this feels overpriced lol. I loved Black Flag, so a brisker BF with no tail missions sounds absolutely fantastic. I skipped this on PS3 because PS4 was shiny and new). I'm sure this will be on sale for $20-30 in 6 months, and by that time I can crush out some of my backlog (Horizon, Syndicate, Doom, etc. are high priority for me right now).
