Is this running on Azure? You would think it'd be built to handle release more elegantly.
Almost certainly. Although the advantage of the cloud services is easily scaling for what you need, huge game releases still require a bit of an allocation guessing game. Sounds like they didn't account well enough for the scale they'd need for the US launch.

I'm sure all of these big online games are running on Azure or AWS. But yes, SOT is using Microsoft's services.

The main issues seem to be with the log in servers. (everyone trying to log in at once tends to break things). They are probably spinning up more but it takes time. /shrug.

I hear you, but you'd think that with such an important FP release for MS they would have more than enough on and then switch of the contingency if not needed.

As a new , excited player there is no worse way to introduce players to an on-line game.

Played solo for 1 hour, mainly just messing around controls.
Was trying to kill my first named enemy, when another player came to help, stabbing the enemy in the back a few times, killing it. We then stared at each other for a few seconds, as I was desperately trying to find the emotes (dpad). In the end I started playing music and he left.

Got back to the outpost (wrecked my ship though, couldn't drop anchor in time), turned in the skull for some gold, and bought the day 1 patch.

Good night guys, safe sailing.

In the settings menu theres a "pirate settings" tab where the only option is being able to delete your pirate which i think lets you reroll completely if you want to.

How are you doing third person screen shots?

For a AAA-priced game in 2018 to feature such a focus on cosmetics, yet not provide a character creator or the ability to preview cosmetics outside of a tiny 2D render seems a massive oversight.

So is EVERYTHING cosmetic?

Meaning there are zero changes to weapons from those starting three?

Because if that's the case, I'm guessing the enemies stay the same throughout as well?

My pistol keeps getting reset to the default version instead of the mixer reward version is this a normal glitch that is happening to anyone else?

Can you elaborate on this?

Bing Rewards is a program where Microsoft gives you points that you can redeem in the 'Bing Store' when you use their search engine. Once you get it set up, it only takes a few minutes a day to get all of your searched in. I typically do it at work. I set my tabbed browser to Bing search and just click the images at the bottom and go down through them all and then I have Bing downloaded on my phone to do something similar there just by searching the same thing over and over. It nets you at least 250 a day from the searches plus there are other things you can do like search certain things and finish quizzes. You can net about 10k points per month and you can redeem them for lots of stuff. You can redeem them for Microsoft store gift cards, Xbox Live subs, and now Game Pass subs. One month of Game Pass is 6800 points and 3 months is 17000 points. So, if you do your daily Bing Rewards every day, you will get Game Pass for free as long as that stays on there.

For reference, here are my subs because of Bing Rewards:

Took well over an hour, but I finally found a pirate that's pretty close to what I was looking for.

lol, I got to play for like an hour before it launched in the US by changing my region. Glad I got that out of the way. RIP those servers.
EDIT:
...
I was loading up the beta.

Man, I dont think I'll be playing this solo; even the smallest shit is still kind of a pain in the ass to crew solo.

On a positive note, I LOVE the atmosphere in this game. Exploring my first island was a blast.

theres different enemy variants. I got a skeleton bounty out of a bottle and the boss skeletons were covered in treasure and had to be hit at certain weakpoints

so finally got in solo.....familiarise myself with controls and outpost. Grab a mission for gold., jump on ship learn to sail (a little cumberosme solo, but not too bad).

sailing for 5 minutes en-route, smelling the salt air and loving the vibe. Climb ladder , spot a 2 ship fight in on the telescope. , consider joining the fight, smile on face......
