Ever fight an opponent using a strategy so stupid and basic that it throws you off your game for a match? I had this dude constantly rush in with autocombos, and I was so used to higher level of play that he manages to sneak a round on me. I crushed him in the other 3, but the 1 loss stuck with me.

How is this team comp:

Teen Gohan as point (I did have 18 there, she's deadly af)
Super Saiyan Goku as assists
Blue Goku as anchor/point hybrid

I'm still pretty low level in fighting games so I'm not sure if that comp is decent enough.

Still doesn't work for me. Lets say I start with the 214L dunk my character just shoots way in the air and whiffs the opponent still. I think it might have to do with the scaling of the buttons I press before then. Do you have a bnb notation to share?

if you're doing LL autocombo in the air instead of L M manually then 214L might whuff because autocombo takes you pretty much at the same vertical height as your opponent.

Try autocombo in the air when you wanna do 236L, try doing L M when you wanna do 214L

Think I may be done with this game. Got the 530,000 trophy and thought about trying to go for SSJ3 but decided I'm really not having a ton of fun anymore. There's a looooot of things in this game that you just kind of have to shrug off and say "it's just DBZF." Also fighting 16 every game is just straight frusterating. Had a dude straight yell at me when I beat him at locals recently so as much fun as I was having there I don't think it's the scene for me if that's what i have to deal with. May still jump into the occasional ring or casual match. I noticed folks here doing that more and I think it's awesome.

I love watching the game and I hope it has a nice, long competitive life, but high-level play is just not for me. RIP Vegeta Blue/21/Yamcha, you took me to higher heights than I ever imagined.

Why does almost every single Vegeta Blue player end their combos with a vanish + air grab + level 1 super? It's such a huge waste of meter for a minuscule amount of damage

I notice this as well, it's also weird because his dunk is the easiest thing to extend with assists in the world, and you can get some serious damage that way.

Edit: But also "huge waste of meter for a minuscule amount of damage" should be his motto, dude just can't get a lot done without spending meter or relying heavily on assists. You're pretty much always going to be spending a bar in a combo to get a dunk into an assist to get damage other people get for free. It's a pretty big reason why he's low tier right now, he just doesn't have a ton of meterless options. Certain assists put your opponent in position for a medium dunk but combo-assist-dunk-assist-combo won't do a lot without bar anyway and then you're working with a double cool down and he's awful on his own.

Hey, so, quick question about Vanish, Sparking and scaling:
I know that using a Vanish early in a combo will heavily scale down the damage of whaterver combo you get afterwards, but what about empty Vanish in Sparking? If, say, I do any jump normal after that, the scaling should be that of the normal instead of the Vanish hit, right?

That is not normal or acceptable no matter what scene you're in (unless you're a Smash player. I am halfway joking.)

If you're cool with other people in the scene, talk to them about this dude. Otherwise, continue to wreck him at locals and he'll probably rage quit the scene in due course.

The dude was appropriately chastised and asked to leave, it was handled well, I just didn't really feel comfortable playing anyone else the rest of the night and the thought of going back just doesn't sound fun. Still love talking about and watching this game.

Please don't let that experience turn you off the local scene completely, but if you really feel done with the game then that's cool. Depending on where you live even one person leaving does make a difference, and watching a scene die or stagnate because of one fuckass who's mom never taught him how to lose is sad.

We've banned people for doing this in our local Smash scene. It's not really treated any more favorably than the FGC.

Man, the Final Round grand finals really make me want to pick this up. Do a lot of people play competitively on a standard pad?

Yeah this game is perfectly able with a pad as long as it has a good d-pad. I got a Hori fighting commander and the d-pad on it is sick.

Question: is it stupid to play Teen Gohan over Adult just because I prefer him from the show?

The Goku Black vs. SSJ Vegeta sequence that starts at about 30:35 was one of the most tense things I've watched in a tournament in a while. Especially after SonicFox lands the level 3 and it comes down to one final mixup. Insane.
Yeah, it was pretty solid the whole way through. Earlier in the first set when Sonic almost pulled off that 16 comeback was insane as well. Much props to both of them for putting on a fantastic set, especially with everything boiling up prior.

It's been said before but I wish Bandai Namco did something like the Capcom Pro Tour. They currently have the Tekken World Tour but with that game, DBFZ and the upcoming SoulCalibur 6 they would have a good number of popular games to create their own tournament circuit.

Man Ive completely strayed away from learning sparking

it basically changes the whole game, being able to cancel blocked normals is insane for pressure. simple shit like 5m 5m IAD over and cross up is huge since most ppl havent really delved into sparking yet.

If you're new to fighting games, don't fall for the trap of playing "high tier" characters. Learn and play what you're like always. If you like high tier characters so be it.

I started playing Teen Gohan for the same reason as you, but I eventually switched to Adult Gohan. When I started playing, T. Gohan's speed was enough to overwhelm opponents and some of his normals have good priority, but once I started reaching higher ranks and threat levels, I had to switch to A. Gohan. So, I'd suggest starting with T. Gohan and see how it goes, maybe go into casual first to test the waters without loosing points.

I took a few days off from playing online to mess around with team composition. Gonna hop online now with Kid Buu, Android 16 and Frieza. See how they work out.

Oh sweet, i didn't realize That Blasted Salami was doing DBFZ content. While just a straight Goku break down probably won't be super helpful to most of us at this point, I'll be excited if he starts doing match breakdowns and such. This dude has quietly been putting out fantastic Tekken 7 content and i'll be excited if he brings some of his video concepts to this game.

Oh no I fully understand T Gohan is considered "low tier" but his moves are so fun. AND THAT INTRO. A Gohan is great fun too and it's great it's high tier considering how shit he is in the series. They really should be the opposite way round but oh well.

What happened to the matchmaking in the last few days? I'm playing against people either way lower than me or way above me. My opponents strength is set to, "same as me."

Nothing worse than being a sport and taking 3 loses in a row, but when you play against other people and you start to figure their shit out they bounce because they know they are about to lose every point they gained.

thats always been the matchmaking for me

I really wish characters with extendable lv3s would be able to extend them when DHC'd in

Like this would be a 100% if I was able to extend Tiens lv3 through DHC

like if hes losing unrecoverable life, I feel it should be allowed

I keep getting ducked even in Casual matchmaking. Let me know if anyone wants to play sets. Can't improve like this.

Man I hope this doesn't take away from his time producing T7 content. That game needs it faaaaar more than DBFZ does. He makes the best tutorial videos for that game, free. I still feel like you can learn most of the cast in this game within 20 minutes of training mode and maybe a half hour perusing some discords and google docs.

I have noticed if someone doesn't have a Z-Union sticker there is a 50%+ chance they are a 16 player. I've caught on to your games. You can't hide your shame.

I can play for like an hour if you want to run one.

TGohan has to put in a lot more work but hes still good

cant imagine playing him with lag tho
Having to put in a lot more work is how you know he's bad.

I'll save you the pain: drop Frieza for any other character and you will do better.

You definitely can, I've done it many times to finish off rounds with Tien specifically. Just hold down L+M after doing the DHC with the assist button.
