Finally decided to pull the trigger after waiting for initial user impressions. Now the long 4 week wait.

Edit: coming from a 6+

So is there significant energy loss do consider with Qi (when compared to regular charging)? Interesting. Also it seems like the charging part is quite hardware heavy yeah? So it would steal a lot of battery room.

Still, I'd like to see someone's take on it.

They apparently exist for android phones but don't have a good rep.

Going battery -> induction motion -> induction receiving -> battery is more state changes than battery -> cable -> battery.

Glad I moved from the 8 Plus to the X - not a performance upgrade but the overall experience is much nicer. Once you use for a day its hard to go back to another iPhone - Face ID is the real deal and it just works soo well - Animoji is crack...the form factor is glorious

I don't mind, I'd buy it.

Inductive charging transmits only like 60-70% of the power put into it in the best case scenario, the rest is lost, so yeah it's pretty inefficient. Kind of surprising that super-green Apple would even consider it, but I guess they needed to tick that feature box.

Phone charging takes rather little power so the footprint isn't crazy

The footprint isn't small when you multiply that by the number of iPhones sold.
What I mean to say is that it's worth it to me as a consumer and I do not mind adding that footprint. It's essentialy like using the power draw of a 12W charger but only getting 7.5W energy out of it and that's not a wild jump to me in waste

Cancelled my first day preorder (2-3 weeks) because for whatever reason the Singapore Store had a bunch of day two stock, so just re-ordered on the spot. Only twist is that it was online orders only - they had a massive line outside that was purely for pickups, and employees were turning away people trying to just walk in and buy. So, classic early iPhone purchase scenario, but I already paid for it?

Love the phone so far though. Face ID nearly flawless for me and the ease of use it offers for some apps is amazing. Only 100% obscure gesture is force-closing apps, but I understand why it's (comparatively) obscure too.

They definitely should open it up to third-party developers. It'd be much more of a hit than the message stickers were.

I'm scheduled to pick up my X from my local UPS CC tomorrow, but it's been over 24 hours since I've had an update on my UPS tracking. I have a departure scan yesterday afternoon around 3 pm from Louisville and nothing since.

Hope to see something pop up overnight so I can pick it up tomorrow morning at 8 am. If not, it is what it is I guess.

I decided to join the club and order a X a few days ago. I look forward to getting it in 3-4 weeks (no T-Mobile models anywhere around me) and seeing what all they hype is about.

I'm curious, how do you guys say iPhone X in real life? X or Ten? I know apple wants us to call it ten but I prefer to call it X

Played with my SO X for a bit. It's nice, but it's not worth the price tag. The white and silver looks cheap.

10. I don't make up the product names for companies and I hate when people use their own name like iTouch, etc. Also shows that a lot of people don't know the basics of roman numerals.

It's amazing that no competitor has made a competent clone even after so many years.
There are plenty of competent alternatives. WhatsApp, for instance. iMessage itself started off as a BBM clone. It's really just Google that can't create a competent clone, integrated into the OS/SMS functionality the way iMessage is.

X unless I catch myself. 10 just isn't the first thing that comes to mind, probably because there was no iPhone 9. I also see OSX as OS ecks though

If you live near an Apple Store (or multiple Apple Stores), check your local stock just after midnight. That's how I was able to get a 7 Plus last year a couple days after launch.

Officially it's 10, I say 10, normal people say X, and I mentally say X when I'm reading it because that's how my brain works

What are the chances that the notch will disappear or change with next years iPhone?

Not likely. One because one year likely isn't enough time to shrink the notch, and two because the notch is their new branding when there's no home button

I still feel like wireless charging is mostly a gimmick. The benefit is very minor and it charges slower.

My god good luck on the wait. It was hard just to wait the 4 weeks from announcement to release.
I am not looking forward to it one bit. I didn't plan on getting it which is why I didn't preorder. After playing around with it, I gotta have it.

Thanks for the tip! I'll check first thing in the morning. There's one about an hour away from me in a different time zone but I'd make the drive if it saved me 3-4 weeks.

How often are you in a situation where you're rushing to charge your phone? I do the vast majority of my charging overnight or at my desk and in both of those cases the convenience of wireless charging far outweighs the slow speed

If I do find myself in a hurry to charge, I can always just plug it in

its like that for every phone that uses wireless charging.. if you want a fast charge bc its urgent, wireless charging isnt the way to go. if you are home and just want your phone to charge over time , wireless is a good option

Yeah, all I'd really want is the number. Don't even need a battery icon/shape.

Clone of what?

iMessage. Use on WiFi or data. Not reliant on both or just one. Uncompressed video and messages. Gifs. Quick. Easy to use. Pick up from one or the other. Use phone number or email.

Sure maybe WhatsApp. But again, you're using separate apps and asking other people to download it which never happens most of the time.

Unless you have furniture with this stuff built in already I just don't see much added convenience. At some point when you can drop your phone on any piece of furniture and have it charge I could see what would make it really nice but for now it mostly just seems like a neat trick.

Some of you are missing that the notch is the only branding the front of the phone has now. I doubt they'll get rid of it in the foreseeable future. They want it to be very obvious you have an iPhone.

Idk what to tell you; i prefer just putting my phone on a wireless charging stand and walking away rather than having a cable run from my pc and plugging into my iphone everytime i want to charge it. the only time i connect my iphone now is in the car to use carplay. Its just preference at the end of the day.

I'm probably going to get a wireless charger for work since I don't usually plug it in but have it laying around in case I need it. That way it stays at a higher charge for the rest of the day.
