I'm confused. Isnt the last one called Warriors Orochi 3?

The PS2 titles pushed naming convention up since what we know as Warriors Orochi 2 was actually a story expansion of Warriors Orochi/Musou Orochi with a different subtitle. From there on, Musou Orochi 2 was released on PS3 and became Warriors Orochi 3.

All I have to say, Koei Tecmo, is good luck, and you damn well better include the Spirit of Sanada cast in this mix, since the likes of Chacha are way too good to get stuck in one musou title.

Tried to clear up the title a bit, this is confusing. @.@
It seems like they skipped numbering initially for the Japan titles.

Warriors Orochi > Musō Orochi
Warriors Orochi 2 > Musō Orochi: Rebirth of the Demon Lord
Warriors Orochi 3 > Musō Orochi 2

This announcement is for Musō Orochi 3, which will presumably just be named Warriors Orochi 4 outside of Japan.

What? Maoh Sairin was definitely a sequel and not just an expansion.

but this actually does sound like desperation, as excited as I am. They didn't want to make a Warriors Orochi before - that's how we ended up with Warriors All-Stars - but it bombed. The Orochi games used to be sure-fire hits in sales.

This also means it had 1.5 years dev time at most, which is about on-par with most musous, but...

Thanks for that. Now it actually makes sense. :)

Already thinking about the roster. What was it...145 characters in Ultimate? I wonder if/who they will add. Or if they will do a swap.

I enjoyed Warriors Orchi 3 on Wii U. So i am interested if this title has decent quality and is not open world like their latest game.

Probably not, but they definitely chose Orochi 3 over All Stars 2 when they saw the terrible reception of All Stars 1.
I wonder how much of All Stars they'll recycle. Hopefully everything so we can forget that game existed.

I get that just didn't see the connection between this games announcement and DW9 sales.

Very likely this ends up on Steam along with all current consoles. I just hope they port Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate on Steam as well.

Yeah, it's nuts. I imagine that they'll at least cut the one third-party character that made it into WO3 Ultimate (Sophitia?!), but there's no telling about the rest of the roster unless they decide to do something like cut all of the non-Musou characters. (Which is entirely possible since Warriors All-Stars now exists distinct from WO.)

Cool, I wonder if they'll have more characters than Orochi 3.

It better not be open world lol.

They could really use a good Musou game to revive trust in the franchise. The last few entries have been deplorable.
They'd need this game to beat the last Orochi character count for that, among other things.

My personal favourite thing in Orochi was how they introduced historical/litterary characters from other time periods than the two main franchises like Kiyomori, Abeno Seimei or Benkei. I could see Sakamoto Ryôma join the game for example.
Maybe the greek temples hint to Leonidas or Xerxes. Or Romus/Remulus/any important Roman figure.

Well, if we do get a switch version, what if we got a few exclusive characters from the Nintendo spinoffs? Now that'd be sick
Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 (3ds version) had Hyrule Warriors Link and Zelda parts for the custom characters, but only in Japan. I wonder if there was some issue with NoA since that got dropped from the localization, even though Zelda is much bigger in the West.

If they could actually get Nintendo to license Zelda and FE characters for a Switch version it could be a pretty strong selling point though, but overall I think it's really unlikely.

Aw shit, here we go

This is the musou people wanted instead of DW9

(I still really like 9, but man some scenarios take hours due to the open world design)

Fuck yes! Orochi 3 was one of the best games in the series. It's about time we got a 4.

By the same token I'd also hope someone at Koei realized they had a stinker on their hands with DW9 well before it actually tanked in the market. If not then we should really be worried.
I actually like DW9, so in regards to that specifically, meh.

I'm pretty sure that the game won't be open world. There's little incentive in making an open world Orochi game because of the fictional setting. Part of the motivation behind making DW9 open world was in making all of China a playable setting that could be explored, rather than just a collection of locations without geographic context. Koei Tecmo also hasn't exactly cut and run from DW9 since release either, since thy're still updating and patching the game (the most recent update coming just yesterday).

So no, the release of WO3 and the reception of DW9 aren't related, other than people that will inevitably and vapidly Meme Online that WO3 is proof that Koei Tecmo is running away from a shit game (that I wager a lot of the meme lord crowd never even played to begin with and just like dunking on DW regardless).

The main question is, how long till this game gets a sequel title since , Warriors orochi 1 had 3 technical titles (we got 2 of them) Warriors orochi 3(2 for them) had 3, vanilla, hyper, ultimate, and will we get them all. The baseline of characters should be the same as WO3 minus that soul calibur girl due to obvious licensing rights.

This game probably won't have a dub which made it so annoying to play WO3. They better not use the DW9 team either; stop being cheap, Koei.

To be fair, the WO3 updates all came from the game getting late ports. Wii U got Hyper, then PS4 and other systems got Ultimate.

DW9 was more than likely due to the strike. but WO will not have a dub and i can tell you exactly why. 150+ characters. I dont expect WO to be dubbed in the near future. (if they dub it and use the original DW dub team i'd be very very surprised.)

I would almost be willing to bet what happened was that they negotiated the Zelda items before deciding to localize the games, and failed to take that into account when making the agreement.

I know why it won't be dubbed, I just don't agree with it. Lack of dub makes these games a huge pain in the ass to play. I'm 100% sure DW9 wasn't affected by the strike from what I've read, Koei was just cheap.

yup just read a thing on reddit from one of the voice actors in 9, said the recording session was more or less a mess (they had to dub using the chinese track as a reference not the japanese original) and saw somewhere that they did intend to go with the original voice cast at one point but decided with a new crew. Hope if the KT community manager sees this that they can kinda give a heads up to the localization team to not cheapen out this time.

Aw, HELL YEAH.

Orochi was the last time I truly enjoyed a game starring Lu Bu, Tadakatsu and pals, so I'm daring to get a bit more hype.

Just please don't cite any of All Stars' gameplay systems.

I get why DW's numbering is messed up but why is it the same with Orochi.
They called a warriors orochi 1 expansion warriors orochi 2 in the west.
There were 3 warriors orochi 1 titles(we only got 2, didn't get the superior PS3 version) and 3 warriors orochi 2(3) titles which we did get.

HELL YEAH

Thought this series was dead. Loved DW8 and SW4 so this should be incredible. WO3 is certainly one of the best Musoud games.

I didn't play Warriors All Stars but from the comments in this thread it's probably a good thing. I had thought the Orochi games were over but I'm glad this isn't the case. Hopefully I can use Ryu Hayabusa again. My main while rotating other characters in for Warriors Orochi 3.

I wonder if this game will still be based on the old PS3 engine. It basically took Omega Force 5 years to finally develop a musou engine solely for the PS4 generation, so it'll be a bit disappointing if we're back to PS3 again.

That said, I do wish they'd put Musou Orochi Z and Warriors Orochi 3 on Steam. Sometimes I get a hankering to use the old movesets and those games were basically the culminations of the PS2 and PS3 era games.

YES! I had a blast with WO3. My biggest grievance with that game, though, was that the SW characters felt overall weaker than the DW-based characters. But with this new game incorporating the SW4 mechanics such as the Hyper Attacks and improved Musou, I'm eager to see how this'll play out. :)

Hoping the guest characters of WO3 return as well. Joan of Arc was an incredibly strong character and I'd like to see her return.

Yeah, the Samurai characters in WO3 were still using SW3 as a template, which was very much based on the first two SW games. They were a little stronger than most of the DW5 characters back in Orochi 1 and 2, but 3 had them based around DW7, when Omega Force was really big on upping the enemy numbers and, by extension, the size and damage of attacks.

It'll be really cool to see better balanced SW folks and completely decloned DW folks. I wonder how they'll handle the weaker Mystics like Da Ji or Fu Xi.

I adored 3, but it might actually have had too much content. I don't have much love for either of the core series- so the crossovers are the draw for me. Hope it ends up being the game Warrior All-Stars should have been.
