I made some choices that made the berserkers so angry they told me I could never join them. They also banned me from trading unless I paid them 2000 bucks. And I never stole anything or murdered anyone.

Can you join them if you pay or is their questline completely gone for you?

Has there been news about their plans for Xbox One X and Pro yet?
This popped up on Reddit yesterday. I don't know how legitimate it is. Sounds about right though. Patches will nearly always longer on console. It would make sense to try and roll as many fixes and updates into one patch as possible. Maybe they are waiting for the Xbox One X launch to release the update there along with the patches?

I do think we have to be patient, but we can be confident that they are coming.

Tbh I can't think of a really great RPG to come out this year except for D:OS2 and this, so the statement in the thread title is pretty redundant.

Hey I liked it too but let's be honest,it wasn't the greatest thing ever :P
For point-n-click hack and slash games it kind of was . It was amazing idea and it's tragic nobody developed it further. It had so much potential. Instead everyone just went on doing Diablo-like combat in the genre, which isn't bad per se, but I wish some games would take on Witcher's rhytm system and camera and expand on those ideas.

Just passed 30 hours yesterday, Character is now level 20 and I'm rocking a bad-ass bow. Have to join a faction in the story but have been doing every other side quest before picking one. Gonna make a save before I do. Will go back and pick the other ones after this playthrough. This game has me sucked in. I want to play it non stop. Witcher 3 was the last one to do that.

Posted a little earlier in the thread, but given the size of the team, I doubt you'll see any Pro/X enhancements unless MS or Sony reach out to them directly to have have it done. Not sure it's gaining enough traction on consoles for that, but it would awesome if it is. Realistically, I think the best you're looking at on consoles are the bug fix related patches.

This makes sense however before it even released the developers spoke of 4K on Pro and X. It's definitely in their plans.

Nice, hadn't heard that, if they put out a Pro patch, I'll likely end up double dipping on the game.

There are robots and areas like that in this?! Holy shit this looks cool AF!

Oh yeah, one of the main faction cities is enormous and has mechs patrolling the walk ways, I thought the first city you come across in the game was pretty big, but then I saw that city and it dwarfs the first.

You are so right about this game OP. Finished the main story including all side quests I could find after about 40 hours. The world is very carefuly crafted. Exploration is key, not only for new items but for quests as well. There have been times where I didn't know what to do next because I had completed all the quests. Progression was only possible by exploring further and talking to people.

It is the best singleplayer RPG I have played since The Witcher 3.

I picked this up on Xbox after reading through multiple threads on it. I'm ~7 hours in at the moment, half way through level 8, playing on normal difficulty. I'm playing on an X so aside from the occasional stutter due to streaming / loading as I'm moving, the game performs well as-is.

It's a weird game in that movement is rough, combat is really basic and kind of annoying (I'll circle back to that), stat allocation is pointless on its own instead acting as a restriction for weapon use and allowing purchase of skills and abilities, inventory management is mediocre at best, and there's a lot that is never explained, e.g. I have the potions skill, but I can't see anywhere that I can actually craft a potion in the UI -- I assume there's a crafting table somewhere that I have to find, much like campfires for cooking.

So all that out of the way, the world is cool and fun to explore (I'm a sucker for post-disaster worlds), the factions are interesting so far (haven't dealt with the outlaws a lot yet), the interconnected nature of your actions and responses really does matter in quests, the mix of easy and deadly creatures is (semi-)fun to feel out as you travel, and the jetpack is great to use. All these factors make the game a lot more compelling and interesting than I thought it would be.

I recently was playing Fallout 3 again (IMO better than New Vegas and 4), and Elex has that same "yeah, it's not perfect, but does it really matter?" vibe that I love so much about Fallout 3.

So back to combat - the basic timing system isn't bad, nor is the idea of stamina management, but the penalty of losing stamina on being hit along with health, means that you're doubly penalized for mistiming, which slows combat dramatically. Combat ends up not as a nice ebb and flow but this really conservative 2-3 attacks, pause to refill stamina, 2-3 attacks, pause, maybe special attack, repeat loop. On top of this you've got stunlock / juggling in the game, so when you have to fight more than one enemy at a time, if they leap and their timing is offset, you're juggled to death by multiple hits or knocked completely out of stamina, limiting your options for combat extremely. Same with grenades or any explosive - hit, knockdown, hit again, bounce, hit again, bounce, death.

I'd say that PB nailed the role playing (i.e. playing a character and making meaningful decisions as that character) and world building part of Elex, but the mechanical aspects of what RPG means (to me at least) aren't great in any way shape or form. I can see why reviewers would harshly criticize it when it goes up against games with much more understandable and explainable skill systems and deeper (more varied) combat mechanics.

For a small team, it's still one hell of an accomplishment to create a world this rich. Hopefully success drives more investment in refined skills and combat in the future.

Fighting multiple enemies can be tricky, I usually try to have my companion face one enemy and me the other. I can usually stunlock him until the end. What also works really well is luring other enemies to the ones you are trying to take out, sit back and enjoy the show and then swoop in to finish off the stragglers.

I'm not a huge fan of the stamina system, but I used it to my advantage. Just like you can get your stamina depleted by the enemy, you can return the favor. Later on in the game, I could swing like a madman. I used most of the stat boosting potions that you can craft to increase my maximum stamina.

Ishmae1 There's a workbench in Goliet. You will also find a few in the other cities and in one more place. You can use it to improve weapons, craft potions, etc.

Finally finished.

I dealt with the Hybrid, now I have to visit all the factions and companions all over the map. Is there any point to this epilogue or can I just assume the game is over. It seems kind of pointless.

It's more or less a "victory parade" / "summary of things". It doesn't lead anywhere, if that's what you are wondering.

I recommend doing the questchain with the marked houses. It has a cool ending.
Collecting the map pieces is pointless, though.

There are some interesting developments depending on what faction you joined and decisions made

As far as endgame content, if you have the skill that unveils all the teleporters on the map, make sure to go explore those areas, might of missed some side quests or interesting things

For instance, the outlaws and berserkers turned on me and banned me from their towns, despite being an outlaw myself. Lets just say the fort turned into a bloodbath and the population dropped significantly. I was in no mood to deal with their shenanigans.

I loved Elex so much that I had to go back and play PB's old games. Finished Gothic 1 for the first time yesterday and started Gothic 2 today. I just love their design philosophy. Although to be fair I think Gothic 1 has aged horribly, loving 2 much more so far.

This game has been a stealth bomber for me lol. How's the combat system? Might have to pick this up for the Xbox 1 X.

Didn't get this skill until mid game, but I would probably recommend people get it fairly early. Will save a ton of backtracking. Also reminding people to get Animal Trophies 3 ASAP.

Animal Trophies is the most important skill, tons of money and money buys levelups in this game.

If you don't want to spend the learning point on the teleporter locations you can simply save, buy it, memorize the locations and reload.

I'm glad you guys really like the game, and I don't want to take that away from you (although that's not going to stop me from criticism, nor should it ever). The OP literally referred to it being a "large amount of eurojank" (ver batim quote), so maybe not 1:1 with being a buggy mess, but that doesn't seem like grounds for being one of the best RPGs this year. Strikes me as trying to sweep a huge problem under the rug in order to inflate a hyperbolic statement.

This year has been really weak for rpg's so it might still hold true. From what I hear of reviews, this game does a lot of innovative stuff and actually has a world that is full of interesting things to explore.

I wouldn't say innovative but ELEX manages to recapture the magic of the Gothic games pretty well with its excellent open world design. Few games have such well designed worlds with such a great and natural progression system. Tie that to the even rarer inclusion of a solid choice & consequence system nowadays and you've got yourself a fantastic RPG.

It's a pity that many of these elements are ignored by modern RPG's.

They patched that out. Now enemies can swing even if they have no stamina. It was easy to stunlock highlevel stuff before

So, I'm confused. The box says PS4 Pro enhanced, but it actually isn't? Or is it? The Pro enchancement thread here doesn't list it.

And thanks, you guys, for making me add another game to the backlog. I was planning on playing Prey or Resident Evil next!
