It's funny because it seems like in Canada the opposite happened. Sears Canada collapsed and Toys R Us Canada is fine
Dang. They have an iconic store in NYC and it will be sad to see that one go. I think FAO Schwartz closed to. And of course KB is gone. Any big toy stores left in the states?
The company that bought them out got loans and such to do so,
That debt was then shifted down completely on to Toysrus.
The debt was so high from the start literally all of Toysrus' profits in a year just covered interest payments.
I went to the one near me once. I've seen Goodwill stores that were cleaner and better organized.
Sears Canada was finally turning itself around, unlike its American counterpart, but the US parent hedge fund was siphoning off all the profits like a vampire. It's funny because it seems like in Canada the opposite happened. Sears Canada collapsed and Toys R Us Canada is fine
A trip to Toys R Us as a kid was like the greatest day ever. It was two hours away but whenever we were in the area and would stop in, it was a highlight.
Maybe I should be sad but my parents never brought me there. My toys were fucking books and sticks.
I'm surprised they're waiting that long.
NECA toys were sold via consignment. Vendor might yank those before the liquidation starts.Well I really wanted to grab that A-Force box set and some NECA Aliens figures so here we go.
Came to say this, more or less. This whole thing was by design.I'm sure that Bain Capital (and Mitt Romney) and KKR (the infamous KKR of Barbarians at the Gate) made plenty of good money off of this.
Destroying companies for profit has always been good money for them. It's too bad that American corporate structure and law makes American corporations so vulnerable to this. This sort of shit would never happen in other developed countries where laws are much stricter about leveraged buyouts.
I'm guessing we won't see sales until next week. The store near me was one of the first wave of closures a month ago, and video games at best were 20% off with consoles and switch games being excluded from the clearance. I'll be checking the next few days to see if that changes. You'll probably have better luck when their online store starts knocking off the prices.I went to Toys R Us today expecting to see all videogames 70% off.....no every Switch and PS4 game was still full price at $59.99.
I was hoping to make out like a bandit, but I guess that won't be happening. They can at least sell off their stock to consumers.

Discounts will start at 10~20% off, and gradually increase until they close. High value, in-demand items like current game consoles and recent AAA games will likely be returned to their distributors and sold at full price elsewhere.I went to Toys R Us today expecting to see all videogames 70% off.....no every Switch and PS4 game was still full price at $59.99.

Good stuff won't even be around with the liquidation prices hit. It's always the shit they couldn't get rid of otherwise.

Really sad for all the employees, vendors and landlords who are deeply affected by this. But I'm not sad myself. They entered many different countries recently, including mine, and they used every dirty tactic in the book to squeeze out local businesses. Including my family business. Won't go into details, but it was a shady set of events that made news several times. I sincerely hope they will disappear from this market too... and that the employees will get new jobs in a more ethically run business.

Just got back from the Toys R Us here, it was packed, was like a Black Friday sale. There were no signs or anything suggesting it's closure either. Guess people just heard the news and figured they had to go.
