Just watched the Jang review of Women of Nasa... he's a bit down on it from the start and then that rant at the end is a disaster.

I've just received the Ultimate Lego Star Wars book, and from a quick look through, I think it's great. This is the one I'm talking about:

ULSW.jpg

It has pictures and descriptions of I believe every Star Wars minifig, vehicle and location they've made over the last 18 years, pre-Last Jedi anyway, although it does include the latest UCS Millenium Falcon.

I knew Lego had made many Star Wars sets, but I didn't realise quite how many variations there have been. I mean, it has four pages just about Snowspeeders!

I like how the book even includes the mini sets, I mean the ones from advent calendars, so it's not only about regular or UCS sets. I find those mini sets to be really inventive, getting something distinctly recognisable from a tiny number of pieces.

If you're interested to know, I got the book new but cheap from here: https://www.thebookpeople.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/qs_product_tbp?productId=752968

Urge to order out-of-print Lego sets rising... must resist...

Really wish I hadn't seen this. Star Wars Lego is about all I collect these days, and some of their builds are super super creative. I know there are a ton I'm missing too, so a bullet list basically becomes a very expensive shopping list. Thanks for the heads up though, really. Might grab and see what I can find "cheap enough".

Or just keep saving for the new Falcon set, if it's even still available...

Let us know your thoughts on the build. I found the build to be interesting and enjoyable. Ship itself is meh.

Pretty much spot-on!

This was fun to build. There are some nice elements (especially on the back) but the final product is kinda wacky. There's a big beautiful cockpit windshield... covered in stickers that doesn't hinge open! It's got circular elements on both sides but doesn't roll. There's a detachable side panel with some weird stuff inside. Both missile launchers must activate at the same time. For a $30 set there are a ton of stickers (half of them go on the windshield).

Curious to see how much screen time this thing gets in Episode VIII.

Just caught up on all the Lego news, I hope they reveal the rest of the Creator/Friends/City sets soon. It would be nice if they had proper announcements for all the sets.

From the new sets on bricksets.com I didn't really find anything that appealed to me immediately. It's probably a good thing so I can spend that money on the next modular.

I really enjoy Jang's videos, but yes his rant was just utter garbage.

Yep what the hell was that! Another one who doesn't get it.

Just finished building Ninjago City. Took my sweet time, so I could enjoy every step of the way. What an amazing set. Every level has so many cool techniques, little play features or cool suprises. It's like a modular in overdrive. Hard to say what I love the most, but stuff like the ATM, sushi conveyor belt and crab barbecue are all amazing, and then there is the 'little' stuff like the cool techniques for the different roofs (the one with the crowbars gets all the attention, but the use of cardoors elsewhere is as ingenious), the sideway building in the little green tower on top, or the incredible squid and puffer fish right at the end. (Seriously, that squid! So simple, yet so freaking effective)

Yes, the complete model looks a bit like a mess of different styles, but that's what they were going for (with every floor another 'era' building on top of the previous one) and you appreciate that when building. Also, lots and lots and lots of stickers. But none are hard to apply and they really add to the look.

So to sum it up: amazing set, even if you are (like me) not a Ninjago-fan. With this, two out of my top 3 2017 sets come from that line. Who would've expexted that! (top 5 for now: 1. NInjago City, 2: Saturn V, 3: Destiny's Bounty, 4: BB-8, 5: Assembly Square)

That Lego shouldn't release a "women" set, but a people set. That it is wrong to focus on one gender, etc etc

I'm torn on that statement. I honestly don't think LEGO should focus on specific groups to call them out, but I do think it's cool that they put out a special group/set to show respect (give credit, whatever) to people as well.

My 2c on Women of NASA topic:
If LEGO would jump into that Ideas submission and chose to replace some of the women with men, or deny it and then come with own mixed version, that would be as well as end of Ideas...
Other than that, it was not LEGO coming with that set, it was some lady scientist. It is understandable that she will come up with a topic close to her and that is women in science.
While I would immediately buy such set if it was the regular astronauts with miniatures of Mercury, Eagle module or Lunar rover, but ... neither me or anybody else came up with such Idea, put it online and get the attention. Bad luck. Anybody had the same starting chance. I would be saying otherwise it there would be a contest of 'men' or 'mixed' set and 'women' set the former lost, but it did not happen, so we can't say what would LEGO do. And posting now such set is (most probably) too late. The NASA slot is taken, but who knows, it the current one sells well, maybe ...

I think this set just show the hidden feelings that men have for women in some positions...

I'd compare it to my time on University, it was a technical faculty, ratio probably 15:1 male:female. While only very few were openly hostile, you could always hear that the good looking ones were just hunting for husbands and the other screwing the professors to get a title. It is this hidden disregard in many guys that is hard to fight... and to be honest giving the fuel to the feminists. If there would be equal treatment, those activists ladies would be not needed...

Sadly I saw all over the internet lego "fans" missing the point when it came to the women of NASA set. It just reminded me of the people not getting black lives matter and screaming all lives matter.

On the bright side it was the number one seller in the toys section on amazon and was showing as back ordered on the US lego shop upon release. Also saw lots of men buying the set for their technical wives and/or daughters.

As a double minority working in tech I will be grabbing a few of these sets. papluh i totally agree , we need these sets because if we didn't there would be no ranting , it would be treated like any other set.

Disappointing to hear about Jang but not shocking as I encounter Jangs all the time in my career. They seem nice , competent then one day they slip and let their true feelings come out.

Damn good post.

Women of NASA was an Ideas submission. Blaming Lego for making a set that got upvoted by thousands of people, just because it only included women? That's a terrible take.

That jangrant disappointed me too. There were plenty other YouTube reviews that did the same thing or worse (just2good's for example was pretty horrible in my opinion) but I guess I had higher expectations of Jang. Shame that people are "all lives matter"-ing a lego set...

Now let's not go on a witch hunt against Jang. It's NOT a milkshake duck. A careless or uninformed statement on something isn't automatically an endorsement. Remember that he has also pointed out and appreciated professional female figures in various sets. It's not black and white. It normally isn't with people.

I could see just2good being a bit of an asshole about it, but he's also much younger. Let's give SOME benefit of the doubt, otherwise, we'll very quickly run out of people to enjoy.

Now, if Jamie or Bessa or Psiaki state in an interview that they hate women or black people and actively try to keep those figures out of their sets, that might be something to be upset about.

I was at my local WalMart earlier and noticed they have BB-8 for $80. Couple other Last Jedi sets had some discounts too but I don't remember.

Jang's 'rant' is a really bad take. I wonder if he goes to Japan and complains there isn't a men only train carriage, because the women get one.

However I'll still keep watching as per usual. There's too much negativity and people forcing others to take sides these days.

I'll just choose not to agree with him on this one. :)

Ok jang, how come only a male soccer team got a cmf set

Yeah, and even the "normal" minifig lines are usually like 12 male figs to 4 female ones. That ain't exactly equality. I bet anything if that ratio were ever reversed in a line with no special announcement or theme, the same people complaining about this set would be up in arms like "wtf is up with this weird girly minifig line??"

I would actually prefer true equality, but certain people will complain about this no matter what. God forbid they release one set every couple of years focusing on women.

Here's the Black Friday LEGO deals from Target. They're actually $60 sets so it's really a 40% discount.

Why do people get all agitated when the contributions of a minority group get highlighted in ways like this? Jang was talking about how segregating genders is wrong and people are people and all of that... but in the same statement, acknowledges the fact that contributions of women and minorities in general are underrepresented.

What's so wrong with making a bloody Lego set highlighting them? It's a great little set, it's harmless and promotes the accomplishments of some people who might otherwise be overlooked. Bravo to Lego for doing it, I hope they do more.

What's the quote? When you're accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression, right?

Can't believe this shit is fuelling controversy.

This makes a lot of sense to me. While pretty much everyone that makes public statements needs to know that they CAN very well be criticized for them and

sometimes rightly so, it is true that when you go overboard with this outlook, you will soon reduce yourself to looking for signs of flaws in pretty much every human being, and that, well... let's just say it's not gonna turn out well and you won't come out being a happier/better person for it necessarily.

Huh, my only complaint about the women of NASA set was that it looked boring. I may get it just because I'd like LEGO to do more sets like this. It's hard to believe people still don't get that women are historically under represented in STEM and face harassment and sexism in male dominated fields. I'll skip this review.

Im not sure I have any interest in the set outside the new printed parts/torsos but im definitely buying the set to make a point. If its readily available i'll probably be gifting a few as well.

Hi LegoEra !
I was in a Lego store today and while I like legos and got sole star wars sets laying around, in never quite got into the lego craze myself... until now. I loved the look of the fishermans cabin and the christmas village and would love to make a small rural town in this style.
The problem is:
1. That shit is expensive as hell ! All sets that I liked are 70+€ in here. Holy hell !
2. I don't have much place, especially if there was a train involved.
3. I'm not quite sure where to begin.

Any tips and tricks regarding space and which sets a good and not that expensive ?
Thanks:)

First off, WELCOME!

Second, there is a breakdown on the third post of the OP about recommended sets.
https://www.resetera.com/posts/11462/

That might be a good place to start, and there are a lot of new recommendations this year. If you are just dipping your toes back in, I would personally recommend the Creator line. They are usually well priced and have lots of useful parts, and also give you multiple build instructions.
You can also find many of last year's sets on clearance for cheap many places, so you can luck out well.

This is a random question...For those of you who play video games and build lego sets.

How do you decide what to prioritize especially if your free time is limited.

This is a silly problem, but I have been playing Mario and Southpark (I also have Cuphead and COD as well). On my table is Ninjago City and Ultimate Ultimate Weapon just screaming to be built! I also have palace cinema, but don't want to open it quite yet.

I barely game, but everything stopped when Mario hit. So games take priority for a bit, then go to the back burner.
Save the sets for a snowy day coming up or something.

It depends on which sets I plan to get and when double VIP is happening next ;)

Honestly, it sometimes depends on who else is at home and what they're doing. I tend to save Lego building for weekend afternoons. I also like to build with old episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm playing in the background, which doesn't happen when the kids are home.

That's the nice thing about Switch. Whenever my wife needs to watch a show, I can just slap on headphones and continue on the couch.
